When do you plan to (or when did you) tell your children that you're pregnant? I have a 4 1/2 year old and I'm afraid of telling him too early because it would be hard to explain if something were to happen. I'm thinking of maybe waiting until 2nd tri, but I don't know.

Haha
My daughter is 8. I'm pretty sure she has already figured it out. I told her and my hubby at the same time with last child but that ended in a very late 38 wk loss so then we had to explain death. Going to wait until 12 wks but she's probably just going to ask me if I am pregnant earlier than that.

My son will blab to everyone he knows -- probably even strangers he sees on the street. So, in addition to the worries about having to explain a loss, there's that.
In Dec. 14 I had a very early on miscarriage. I had the positive test earlier that week so we didn't tell anybody yet. When we got back from the ER, we made the decision to share the loss with then 8yo SD. She was very understanding and appropriately upset. I'm glad we shared that with her, because unfortunately death and loss is a part of life.
We we told her about DD when I was 6 weeks, she was almost 9 then. She was able to kept it secret because we told her that the news should be something that comes from us, as the babies parents.
Since this pregancy is so soon after DD (6months) we are waiting until the ultrasound to tell SD. Sometimes it's still a shock that we having another little one. For some reason it's harder to believe that it's real, I think that's why DH and I both need to see the baby before telling anyone.
When we were trying it felt important to share. Since this is a surprise, it's taking some adjusting time before sharing.

I know this post is old but i just stumbled upon it....and almost wish I didn't read it. There is no way I can wait much longer.
We are going to start announcing to more people soon and I want her to know first. Plus, I think we are going to announce with a big sister shirt. She's going to start telling everyone she sees I'm sure but I think I'm ready to take that risk.
