Any early walkers?

My baby started crawling the week before he turned 6 months and now at 7.5 months pulls up on everything, lets go and takes 1-3 steps before face planting. He is strong enough, just has no.balance lol. I know it's probably not good for them to be trying to walk this early but I can't really stop him. I am afraid I may have an 8 month walker

All 3 of my big kids were walking by 9 months, and my brother walked at 7 months. It's no big deal. If he was not physically ready to reach this milestone, he would not be trying to do it. There is nothing wrong with them trying to walk this early if they are strong enough to pull themselves up. The balance will come with practice. Don't try to stop him...help him learn how to sit down instead of face planting when he loses his balance!

My son is the same, minus the fact that he's not a great crawler. He gets around, but he is not fast and he hates it. I think he's actually trying so hard to walk because he finds crawling to be so terrible, lol. He just turned 8 months, and he's been pulling up since 6 months, and taking a few steps here and there for a few weeks. I think it won't be long before he's properly toddling about. He can do stairs if I'm holding his hands, and I can see already that he's trying to stand from a sitting position, without holding on to anything. I'm proud of him, and its fun to watch, but makes me feel like my little baby is quickly turning into a little boy  I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I was a little worried that he would miss learning to do things like sit up from a laying down position, but he proved me wrong and did that at 7 months, so I think you can trust him to do what he needs to do!
  • My husband started walking at 9-10 months and our little girl is 8 months and is already trying to pull herself up. She hasn't even gotten crawling down (she 'crawls' backwards). I also agree with them and say just let him try. As long as the house is baby proofed or he's being supervised I would also let him just go for it! Every baby is different and the times each reach their milestones varies.
    Good luck!
  • Bridget is cruising and standing on her own for a few seconds at a time.  No steps without holding onto things yet though.  She's 8.5mo.  Her older sister was walking at 8 months and I suspect Bridget will be by 9mo.  No reason to stunt their development by not allowing them to walk if they want to walk.  Just make the area as safe as possible for them to practice.  Foam mats are awesome and work fine under an area rug if you don't like the aesthetics.  Corner guards on everything and if you have a brick fireplace you should probably block it off.

Oh, and soon after walking comes running and climbing.  Make sure to have the furniture firmly attached to the wall!
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • LOL my kid is 8.5 months and not even crawling.  She can roll and spin in a circle on the floor, but that's about it.  I think she doesn't have enough leg muscle to support and move her big-baby mass (28in, 19lbs, her 12m clothes are getting small...)
  • He's enjoyed standing up since... 6 weeks maybe. He's been actually crawling for a few weeks (inch worming for a couple of months) and he's been pulling himself up on everything. He loves to walk when we hold him and we bought him the little lion thing that he pushes but he's terrified of us letting him stand up by himself with it (but not anywhere else). I know the second he get his balance he is gone but for now I'm cool with still being able to catch him.

Our 8 month old just started crawling, but she is a ways off from walking.  She tries to crawl-stand (it is crazy looking) and wants to pull up on everything/cruise, but she is so big that I think her muscles are struggling to support the weight.  At 6m she was almost 19lbs (she hasn't been weighed in 2 months).  She just had a growth spurt because now she is wearing 12-18m clothing!  Oh my...
  • My LO has been pulling up since 7 months, I am just waiting for her to take off on foot.

  • My LO will be 9 months next week and he has been pulling up and taking tippy toe steps while holding on. It's pretty cute :)

Charlotte has been pulling up for about 7 weeks or so now. She's 8.5 months. Recently she's started taking steps from the couch to the ottoman or the gate to the toy bin. About two steps is max right now before getting to what she wants. If it's farther than that, she gets down and crawls!!!
  • Geez, now I feel like mine is behind. He turned 9 months yesterday. He doesn't crawl but more rolls around everywhere or moves himself forward a very small amount with his belly still on the floor. He stands really well while supporting himself but no pulling up or walking yet. Anyone else in my boat?
  • Yep, I am. Mine turned 9 months a couple days ago and she is just starting to try and crawl, but hasn't gotten the hang of it yet. She gets on all fours but falls to her belly pretty quickly. I've kind of worried about it but am trying to go with the flow since some babies never crawl and are perfectly fine.

I didn't think she could pull herself up because she never tried to, but I put the remote (something she always goes after) on the edge of the couch and she then tried to pull herself up. She couldn't get a good enough grip on the couch, but when I put my hands in front of her she was able to pull herself up on my hands. Have you tried anything like that?

I wouldn't worry about the crawling. Some babies never crawl. My LO showed no signs of beginning to crawl until a couple of days before she turned 9 months when she began army crawling out of nowhere. It's only been a week and she now crawls with her belly off the floor. I think that rolling with purpose may technically count as crawling anyway.
  • My son has been crawling since May. He started pulling up not long after which was scary bc I was constantly catching him. He cruises the furniture quickly now. He will walk with a push toy or push his activity table but he hasn't let go to walk. He will randomly stand in the middle of the floor, get excited like he wants to move and then sit. He is 8.5 months.
  • DD will be 9 months on Tuesday. She's been crawling since early July and pulls up on everything!  She pushes her learning walker around (we spot her). My house isn't set up for cruising so that's the best walking practice she'll get at home.
  • LO is 9.5 months and took her first steps last night! Trying to keep up with big sister I guess. She's so tiny it looks so abnormal haha.
