Formula, Breastmilk, and Solids

As of right now my son is drinking formula at night and a mix of solids and breastmilk during the day.  I recently received Upspring products free to review and they've been working amazingly (my opinions are my own!)!! My breast supply, which seemed to be dwindling prior to using the products, has increased and is back to speed which is great.  But now, I'm feeding him solids too and I'm wondering if it's all too much.  I LOVE breastfeeding, the bond that it provides, and the fact that it's just super nurturing.  But, I'm wondering if I should limit solids to stretch out the nursing stage or if I should just continue doing it all.

Anyone else deal with this type of thing?

  • Through baby's first year of life, breastmilk or formula should be the main source of nutrition. Solids are more for fun. LO get's bottles every 3-4 hours with two solids 'meals' during the day. But he always gets a bottle at least 30 minutes before he eats, that way he doesn't fill up on the solid food. Then I only offer 2ish oz of solids and a sippy cup of water.

Our Dr said he should still be getting the same amount of breastmilk even with him being on solids.  I actually upped the amount I'm putting in his daycare bottles since I started getting a bunch more from my pumping sessions once he started sleeping through the night and I started getting more than 3 hours of sleep a night.
