This thread is to discuss diet/exercise for the week. As always, the goal is to have healthy mommas. The focus is not on numbers on a scale, body comparison, etc.
I've been wanting to exercise more but have been having trouble trying to figure out with this little person. We had been going for walks but it is too hot out to make her sit strapped in to a car seat or huddled in a carrier. Took her to the gym with us last week and husband wore her in the Ergo Performance so I could start Couch to 5k but with the infant insert she was super sweaty. I carried her in my arms while he got his run in. I'm looking forward to when she is older and can go in the jogging stroller with me on runs. Trying to figure out what to do before then though. And i still have problem with timing and breastfeeding. If I feed her before we leave for the gym, by time we get to the gtk and halfway through the workout, she is hungry again. We have an elliptical at home (that I don't love) but thinking of doing that this week with some weights until the weather cools off more and we can get back outside again. Or at least I could just go for my run around the neighborhood quickly while husband is home with her. So my goal for the week is elliptical and weights and up my water intake!
I started running again last Saturday. My in laws are currently in town, so I've been able to get back out while they watch him. My husband and I will alternate morning and evening duty for gym/running time. I can't wait for the summer to be over and for him to be stable enough for the jogging stroller. I have the infant car seat adapters for my Bob so I'm hoping he is stable enough for the paved path at 3 or 4 mo, but obviously I won't run with him until he looks comfortable.
I'm starting to look into getting in shape again as well. I was doing at-home yoga before getting pregnant and I think I want to continue with it. I really like yoga with adriene on YouTube and I just use my Chromecast to put it on the TV. I figured this is a good starting point for me so that way if baby gets fussy I can just stop if needed and then restart later. I also have an elliptical downstairs in my basement and a couple of hand weights that I could use as well. I think my biggest goal right now though is just getting more active but also trying to eat slightly healthier. My husband and I eat really healthy and have an organic garden at home full of veggies. But I found one the biggest challenges with breastfeeding is that I'm constantly craving carbs and things that aren't necessarily the best for me. I'm gluten free and I'm trying to cut dairy out of my diet for breastfeeding to see if it helps my little one because she has reflux. That leaves my options fairly limited for some healthy protein-packed snacks. At the store today I got a bunch of vegetables I'm going to chop up and have on hand with hummus as well as some fruit so I'm reaching for that instead of the things out of the pantry. I'm definitely feeling a little flabby since I've had the baby and would like to tone up and drop a few pounds not that losing weight is my ultimate goal.
I take my son on daily walks in his stroller but have to be careful about timing since it does get fairly warm here (Montreal) and he can overheat super quickly in his stroller thanks to the infant insert. Same thing with the ergo carrier, he gets way too hot and sweaty for comfort. I used to attend barre classes and the studio offers a baby & me barre class that I would like to attend so we shall see. Once his meltdowns subside and he is doing better, I have some favorite go-to home workouts that I want to get back to doing.
I just started a dairy free diet to help my little guy so I'm trying to figure that out. I was eating well otherwise except for some chocolate (a little bit daily) and maybe a small bag of chips periodically. I bought some fruits, berries, and veggies today to snack on during the week. Because of his daily meltdowns, I don't have time to make something to eat during the day and have been resorting to peanut butter sandwiches and nothing else. Now that he seems to be doing better, I can make heartier sandwiches (smoked turkey, lettuce, and mustard today!) to munch on. I do have a terrible sweet tooth so it is a constant struggle to keep that in check. It's also been hard not to reach for those quick and easy foods since my energy has been soaked up by the DEFCON 1 state of the household.
We have meals delivered to us (not made, just the ingredients and recipes) so I can rest easy that at least dinner will be healthy and actually simple to put together since I don't have to measure anything, just chop and cook. My husband helps with that too if I'm too tired or occupied with our son.
It's been in the 90s almost every day since S was born. H and I have been trying to go for a walk with S at least a few times per week. We have to get to the park by about 8 am to beat the sun and heat, and it can be a little tricky to get out the door early enough. My main exercise pre-baby was running, but I haven't run since about mid April. I have my 6-week appointment on Tuesday and my goal is to start jogging after that. I need to find a 5k to sign up for to give myself something to work towards. Other than that, I have had luck with some of Jillian Michaels' circuit training videos that I got from Amazon. They are a good mix of cardio and weight training, and I can wait for S to go down for a nap and immediately get started. So far I've been skipping or modifying most of the ab stuff, because I had a c-section. Hoping to get the go-ahead this week to get fully back to normal.
It's 100 degrees here in Houston Tx so I've been a couch potato all summer. I've gotten really depressed the last couple days watching my scale creep back up since my discharge from the hospital. Breastfeeding on top of not being active are making me gain. I've decided to start working out again DH agreed to let me go to the gym after dinner although I can't imagine fitting another think in with LO and our 3 year old evenings are super busy and hectic. I'm hoping this works out I'm starting tomorrow. Also I can't wait for weather to be cooler so I can jog or take walks during the day with LO.
Normally I'm out walking or at the parks with the kids, but it's been near 100 in VA, so my walking has been limited.
I don't have my 6 week check up for another 10 days, so I haven't started anything aggressive. I figure chasing two other kids and a newborn is enough of a workout till I get cleared

I moved to Canada from VA, I do not miss VA summers!
Looks like my complaint is not uncommon. I'm in Dallas and the incessant heat is making it difficult to get out with a newborn. I was cleared at my four week visit to start easing back into running and I just started back at crossfit this past Saturday. As much as I know it'll take some time to get back into shape, I'm still having a hard time dealing with my mushy self. I'm really looking forward to walking with my LO, but until it cools down it's just not an option here in Dallas.
@vintagevix86 I'm also on a dairy free diet hoping that it helps my LO. I hope this is temporary and passes quickly because I already miss my Blue Bell fudge chocolate ice cream.
Well I just finished my first day of yoga and it went great! I was actually stronger and more flexible than I thought I would be. I definitely have room for improvement but I'm looking forward to continuing this journey. I just say my little one into the bouncer in front of me and sent the yoga with adriene video to my Chromecast on my TV. It went well yesterday trying to eat healthy. I chopped up a bunch of veggies and put them in a container in the fridge to have with hummus throughout the week. We also grilled a meal from cooking light with some grilled chicken, veggies, brown rice abd a chimichurri sauce and it was delicious
I really wanna take yoga but money is tight cause we are saving for dh to get a new car and DS had that lip and tongue tie thing which as like $600. For now I am getting out at least 3x a week, if not 4, for a long stroller walk. I wish I liked running cause I'm told I'd be good at it. Lol
@adiaz132003 I bet you could find some decent free yoga classes online. Not sure if any of the ladies on the board have gone that route but maybe it's an option.

Stuck in a box
Try Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube. Her 30 days series is awesome.

I have yoga DVDs and stuff but I think the class would be more fun. I hate working out alone and I'd want an instructor there to make sure I'm doing it right cause I have back issues.
Anybody else feel like they have barely lost ANY weight since there baby was born. I'm 5 almost 6 weeks post partum and I have only lost about 15 lbs out of the 60 I gained durring pregnacy
@Laur51615 I'm pretty sure I gained weight during my second and third week home when my MIL was cooking and baking non stop. While it was awesome having her around, my hips are regretting my lack of self control Now I'm trying to lose that weight in addition to the baby weight
It is too dammed hot out!! I can't wait for fall for all things: crisp, cool air, long walks, random 5ks to run, cute clothes, I feel so much happier in the fall and a happier me is a healthier me! Diet and exercise come so much easier to me when I don't feel trapped in the house by the extreme heat. Hate hot!
I live in NC and I usually wake up and feed her after her first feeding usually around 6/7 am and then we go for a walk depending on how hot it is out. Then when we get home I do some strength training while she plays on her playmat or sleeps in her bouncer. For moms who plan on running with baby in jogging stroller what age are you going to start?

I'm with you, it's been 90+ here for over a week and I feel like poo. I wanna be able to just take random strolls.
@Jerseygirl9090 the jogging stroller we bought says baby needs to be 6 months old, which I think is a pretty standard recommendation. They need to develop stronger neck muscles before they get bounced around in the stroller. Kind of a bummer because by the time S is 6 months old it will be the middle of winter, and even if I go running in the winter I don't think I'll take him out in freezing temps. For now we're getting plenty of use out of the stroller by going for lots of walks.
I signed up for a Stroller Fit class. You have to be 8 weeks pp if you had a c-section (which I did), so my first class will be on August 3. I'm excited to see what it's like.
@cdnrunning I know the feeling. It makes it miserable hopefully after my 6 week appointment I can finally be cleared to start working out again! Working out has always been easier then trying to control a strict diet for me.
@Laur51615 Exactly!!!! I work out so I don't have to really watch what I eat. This is of course a terrible plan of action when I wasn't able to exercise for over two months. Thankfully I'm fully cleared and I've SLOWLY started back to a regular workout routine.

We won't jog with her in the BOB until closer to 6-8 months and it all depends on her neck strength. If we can go together and it isn't hot out we will put her in her infant carrier in the BOB and just take turns doing our runs.
We have a Bob for running, and a City Mini for everyday. I have the car seat attachments for both. I was under the impression that we could run sooner with them if we used the infant car seat.
I think jogging strollers are not safe for running with the infant seat in, or at least that's how ours is. We have the Babytrend Expedition. The stroller becomes very top heavy with the infant seat, so it's at risk for tipping.
@cdnrunning we do not have a separate stroller, we're just using the jogging stroller for all purposes.
I I went for my first run since March yesterday. I only went for 30 minutes and I was soooo slow, but I did manage to run the whole time and even got some hill work in!
How are you ladies easing back into running? Today was my first day back since March too, but I only did a mile bc i was afraid of overdoing it. I could have run further but it still felt good. Any tips?

Too from my running friends (since I don't run, not do I pretend to lol). Is do a slower pace than you used to but go until you get to that "ok, now I'm feeling it" stage then do a nice long cool down. Going by pace and time will be easier than going by distance. For now work on stamina then ease back into distance when you feel ready to pick up the pace again.
@cdnrunning we have a BOB revolution for running and Chicco Bravo for every day.
@26pointrunningfor2 I saw on some forums that people run a bit earlier with infant seats in their jogging strollers but it isn't "recommended". The people who have said they do it were saying they were running with the seats around 4 months or so (when babies have a little better head control) and only on smooth paths (paved roads or bike/running paths).
@Lizbeth86 I've restarted an app Couch to Half Marathon (like couch to 5k) but I'm just taking it really slow. Focusing a lot more on good posture and form. And hydrate!! It definitely feels good to run and I have to hold myself back from over doing it. But I am happy to slowly build up rather than risk injury. Planning on signing up for some 5ks in the fall and a couple of half marathons in early spring, as long as I'm not pregnant again by then. :-)
@cdnrunning I haven't used the Bob yet, but my husband is going to walk with DS in it tomorrow while I run.
@June2016BabyW that's what I've heard about the infant seat with jogging stroller-- 4 months or thereabouts. I live in AZ so it won't be safe to take him out for a run in it until October anyway, which will be 4 months for me. Luckily we have a lot of paved paths along our canals where I can give it a go if I feel like he's stable enough for it.
We have the BOB and have only used it to walk with baby since we aren't using an infant carrier. We have a bugaboo as our regular stroller. The BOB is awesome and worth the money. We got ours at Target on Black Friday last year (when I was barely pregnant) but I couldn't pass up such a good deal!

My first run I did 2 miles. I started with a combo of walk/running and slowly increased running time and decreased walking time. I'm back up to 3 miles with little walking now. I had to stop running in May because my pelvis was so uncomfortable but prior to that I ran regularly, roughly 6 miles a few times a week (or more) plus crossfit. I also wore a my binder (I had a csection) for my first two runs which helped a lot. I was also aid of overdoing it so I took it REAL slow and listened to my body. I did allow myself to be a bit uncomfortable because hey - it's not going to be all unicorns and rainbows those first few weeks

@annaf2011- My first run was about a week and half ago, I've never run slower in my whole entire life lol. I blame the Texas heat!
