  • Pedicure(s) and haircut, for sure. When I was pregnant for DD1, DH got me a prenatal spa day for my birthday (it's on Aug 24). He knows I'm kind of expecting it again this pregnancy.
I was just looking at mother to be massage spa stuff, is that similar? What did you get done? I'm nervous about massage during pregnancy but I'm told its fine

  • Weekly prenatal massages over here!
  • I'm doing a spa day with my aunt before the baby comes :)

  • @chavezrd2 Yes, same thing! Last time I got a manicure, pedicure, and prenatal massage. This time I've got my heart set on a place that does a facial, pedicure, and prenatal massage.

I highly recommend the massage! So wonderfully relaxing, and baby will be fine. There are only two spots they need to avoid (space between thumb and pointer finger and a spot on the ankle). A trained massage therapist should know to avoid those areas in a pregnant woman.

I'm thinking of getting a prenatal massage in a few weeks. On the fence because I'm weird about nakedness and super ticklish. But we'll see what I decide

  • Going for a spa day next month and getting a mom to be package which includes a massage, facial, mani and pedi and lunch. My sister and mom are going to go that day too
  • I have a gift card for a facial that I want to use sometime in August. And I'll get a haircut/trim and my color touched up next month, too. Trying to leave it as long as possible because I don't know when I'll be able to get it done again once baby arrives!

  • When I was pregnant with DD I had a spa day a few days before my due date. Since I have a c-section planned for the 8/23 I am planning on scheduling a spa day for 8/22.
  • I would love a haircut & massage before D Day, but school is starting back up & I can't justify spending all that on myself. My kiddo needs a back to school cut and clothes, and I still need to get some random things for baby. So... I will settle for trying to stay as comfortable as possible.

  • Absolutely! I am definitely going to take advantage of my remaining time. Since my work already hired my replacement and he's doing alright, I've decided to leave work a little earlier than I originally planned to have some "me" time before I deliver.

I had a pedicure and haircut last week and have booked a color and cut on Sept 7 (due date is Sept 13). I know that this appt may not happen but just booking it made me feel better.  If i can work in another pedicure, facial and massage (or two) between now and then I'll be happy.

I also plan to follow in LovelyLaurens footsteps and do some crazy cooking / freezer prep. My FI can cook but much prefers to order in and I don't want to be eating take out most nights. I want real home cooked food for post baby arrival meals!!
  • I'm hoping one pedicure happens!

  • I think I may go and get a pedicure and manicure soon. And will likely get my hair done again before D day. I also may go for a prenatal massage just because!
  • There is an amazing seaside spa that DH has promised he's getting me a prenatal package to, which includes a pedicure (with paraffin, my favourite!), a facial and a 90 minute prenatal massage, plus you get access to their hydropath pool which is to die for. I haven't gotten a massage in ages, and I've been getting monthly pedicures since June when I could no longer bend over comfortably to do my own toenails.

  • Can someone describe how they do a prenatal massage when we can't lay on our backs or belly?
    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • @chavezrd2 At the one I had done, I laid on my side propped with a ton of pillows. Some places have special tables with a hole cut out to accommodate the bump so you can lay on your belly.

  • Haircut/color next month and regular pedi's for sure.

@chavezrd2 I've had them where they have you lay on your side and also where you sit in a chair and lay forward against the bed. I personally didn't really like the chair one.

I I plan to get a prenatal massage or 2. I planned on getting them regularly this time but I haven't really had much back pain so I haven't made it a priority. I need to!
  • @chavezrd2 - I had a prenatal massage once.  It was ok.  I couldn't really relax as much as a I wanted to since I couldn't lay on my back.  I was told to lay on my side and it worked, but I'd rather spend the money on a "real" massage and have my back really worked on.

It's really not that bad because they pretty much only see your back. They're really professional about it and are very careful to keep you covered! They have ways of tucking the sheets too so that you always feel covered. Totally do it!!

my husband is a nervous sweater and won't go get a massage because he knows he would over think it and start sweating, causing him to think about that and sweat even more hahaha poor hubby.

Same. I'm in the "beat the crap out of me" camp when it comes to massage, and they can't be as firm as I like due to pregnancy. I got one at about 24 weeks, and it was nice but not amazing.

As far as my own plans to pamper go, I have been getting pedicures about once a month for awhile now. This week's might be my last before D-day, so I'm thinking of switching to shellac for lasting power. Besides that, I'd like to set aside a day to just be lazy. Yoga pants, books, TV, and lots of good snacks! We have been so busy trying to prepare the house for baby it seems we never take time for ourselves anymore. Might as well do it while we still can!
  • I've had a prenatal massages at a few different places and some have you turn on your side and prop you up with bunches of pillows and some have special prenatal massage tables with holes where your belly fits. Personally I like the special tables as I feel like it allows for a deeper massage. Massages are seriously one of my favorite treats in life! If my husband would pay for it, I think I would get one every single day! I'm blessed enough that he allows me every week since I got about the 32 week mark!
  • Ok first prenatal massage for me booked for next friday :) very excited!!!

Wow lots of massages!! I am weird, I can never really relax during a massage, I just think about all the stuff they're doing etc...so I don't think its worth it for me to do it. I do plan on continuing the mani/pedi's and brazilans though. Oh and I just got highlights and a cut with a new hairdresser who was amazing, will go back in and have her touch up the highlights at the end of Aug.
  • I'm getting a haircut and color this Friday. This will be 5 weeks before my due date, and I would love to put it off a bit longer but my roots are looking scary bad.

I'll also get a pedicure or two. I've done two massages this pregnancy and both were on my side with pillows and so nice! I might get a massage if I am overdue, a little something extra to look forward to.

  • I just want one day were no one wants anything of me. That would mean someone taking both the kids which never happens for long with a 17 month old. But it would be amazing to sleep in and relax without having to worry about anyone else for a while.
    Yes! So much this.

  • my favorite pampering activity is getting my hair blown out. It takes so long to do it myself but I love the way it looks so much. I got a blow out for my first baby shower and I am going to again for my second :) I wish I could get them weekly lol.

Definitely suggest finding a place that has the special cut out for your belly.  It's amazing!!!! I've had prenatal massages where you lay on your side with pillows and it's not that great!  The special table is worth all the money!!!! I found a groupon for a spa near me that had 3 one-hour massages for $120 ($40 a piece) I took full advantage of the special table.
  • I will be getting my hair cut and a mani/pedi 8/21 as an early bday gift (my bday is 8/29) and pre-baby relaxation day. Also getting my final bikini wax and eyebrow wax on the 19th! After these things are done, baby can feel free to make his appearance haha

  • I just got a pedicure this weekend and I'll probably get over more before baby. It's the only time I can justify paying for it because I can't reach my feet comfortably anymore.

I did a few prenatal massages my last pregnancy and I was disappointed because they just can't do what I need. I'm going to wait until a few weeks pp and then go get a real massage.

@toimadness1 that was what I got for Mother's Day. I didn't have to do anything that day. Then the following weekend a drove to a baby shower for my cousin and got a hotel by myself...it was glorious!

We have a wedding this weekend and I was going to get a pedi for that but I hurt my food in the meantime. Going to have to put it off...

i just got my hair highlighted and cut. It's a little too blonde, but chances are it will fade as it's always dramatic when its first done. I feel like a brand new mom though :)
  • Just had my first prenatal massage and I was so nervous but it went great and I'm so relaxed. Thank you ladies for recommending!
