Curious to see what sunscreens you are using for your little babes. My guy was blessed with my red hair and super fair/sensitive skin to go with it. We have tried babyganics and aveeno baby sunscreen but both seem to make his skin break out with supper dry skin/eczema for a week after use. Anyone else having this issue or recommend a gentler type?

Re: Sunscreen

  • I bought the babyganics for our beach trip in a few weeks. I'm a little worried now though seeing your post since LO has eczema but we'll see how he does. You might look into Beautycounter sunscreen- they don't specifically have a baby one but they use very safe ingredients in all their products. A friend of mine is a consultant for them and uses it for her littles- it's a bit pricey though

  • DD has red hair and fair skin too (like mama) so sun is a big concern for us too. We've been using Palmer's Baby sunscreen with no problems.

A friend of mine recommended Blue Lizard for Baby sunscreen. It's an Australian brand. Got it on Amazon. I've used it a bit and definitely recommend it!
  • I use Babyganics...and have never had an issue with it however my son doesn't have dry skin issues.

We have used Neutrogena with no issues, but he also doesn't have any eczema other than a little dry skin/cheek redness occasionally. Our pediatrician did say to make sure he got a really good bath anytime we used sunscreen so we make sure to get it all off him at the end of the day since we do daily baths. If you aren't already maybe a bath or at least good wipe down would help after he isn't outside for the day?
  • Thanks ladies!  I appreciate all the feedback. I'm looking into these now.

@lrayas that blue lizard definitely has a lot of good review from people who said their babes have sensitive skin too!

@kaym6 we do give him a good bath after to make sure it's all off at the end of the day (his pedi said the same thing). Will def try some of these suggestions and see if he does better so we can spend more than one day a week enjoying the sun!
  • My pedi and dermatologist also recommended blue lizard. Hope it works for you!

We are using Live Clean baby sunscreen. It's safe for all ages and works really well. I chose it because we only use Live Clean baby skin products on our girls.

@amberjinnett hopefully a change of brand will help then! :)
  • My pedi recommended Badgers. It's all natural. I ordered mine from Amazon. Maybe give it a try!

I also use Blue Lizard, it was on the list of safest sunscreens published by EWG this year. Here is the list.

ETA: i love it and it doesn't smell too bad either
  • I really like California baby. LO has super sensitive skin and some awfully weepy eczema if I'm not careful, and it's wonderful. My only (teeny) complaint is that it's super thick so it is a little difficult to spread, especially on his scalp, but I still love it. I am curious about blue lizard, though.
  • We love California Baby!! It's great in the Florida sun. I use it as well and it holds up to sweating! It's a little thick so a lot goes a long way. I use the stick on his face.

Our public health nurse said to make sure whatever we use is on this list:

    https://www.dermatology.ca/programs-resources/programs/recognized-products/#!/programs-resources/programs/recognized-products/sunscreens/

Apparently there are a lot of sunscreens on there that sound more impressive than they are, and while some DO meet the requirements, there's no way to know for sure unless it's actually been approved.
  • So we ended up ordering the blue lizard and we love it!! It's a bit thick but "melts" nicely on the skin after a couple minutes so there is little white residue left over. But best of all my little babes skin hasn't been irritated once! :)
  • We use Baby Badger.
  • My baby boy has pretty sensitive skin as well. He sometimes gets dry patches..... We are currently using "Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby Sunscreen" it seems to be working out fine.
  • Loving Babyganics. Also use Honest company occasionally.
