Baby preferring bottle to breast suddenly :(

So Caroline is 5 months old and always breast fed with the exception of the occasional bottle when my parents baby sit for date night. Usually the bottle is a bit of a struggle because she is so used to nursing. The past three days, she hasn't nursed well at all and so I tried the bottle today just to see if it would help and she took it better than she ever has! I nursed her for 5 minutes before she pulled off crying, then she ate 2 oz out the bottle right after! So strange. Anyone have a similar experience?

  • She's on a nursing strike. Harrison did it too. It lasted 2 days.

  • Thank you! Any idea why they do it? So strange. We're going to the doc tomorrow to make sure she doesn't have an ear infection
  • Some prefer the bottle because it comes out faster and they don't have to work for it. Maybe she realized it! Also, if you're giving her a bottle and its breastmilk try using a 0 or 1 nipple. Not sure what brand of bottles you use, but use the lowest and then she'll have to work for it a little more. Maybe if she has to work for it a little more with the bottle it'll help get her off a nursing strike.
  • Zoey was on strike last week . It was frustrating I was engorged I knew she was hungry ! Ugh thankfully she got over it and we are back to normal
  • I read this article when Harrison went on strike: https://www.llli.org/faq/strike.html

  • Mine is doing this too, it's been about a month though. I'm getting pretty bummed, because she only nurses 2-3 minutes each side, when she nurses, and just isn't happy. But if I give her a 3 oz bottle shes fine. Hate it!
