August 2016 Moms

33 days to go!!

OK so I'm due Aug 23rd. My son starts the first grade Aug 22nd. Was gonna talk to my Dr about inducing me so I can have my little girl before he goes to school so I don't miss his first day and plus trying to find someone to get him on and off the bus while in the hospital...  What would you ladies do if you were in this situation??

Re: 33 days to go!!

  • Personally, I would never have an induction that wasn't for serious medical concerns. There is a thread here that I believe is called "can we talk about inductions." That may be a good place to check out and pose this question.

  • I'm not saying I want to just because ..  Not sure if that's what your thinking??  I want to wait until she comes on her own.  But I was also induced with my son, Drs decision. I just don't have anyone to get him to and from the bus stop so I'm trying to take the best approach to this.  I also tried to go to that page but I don't know how to post on that forum I didn't see where to ask.
  • @xcited2beof2 I think the point is to encourage you post within the induction thread as many other people have had similar-type questions.

Anyways, I agree with @Lydiadiane regarding inductions due to non-medical reasons. I think the best approach is to discuss it directly with your dr because you've clearly made your mind up and we can't schedule something for you.

  • I'm in the same position with my daughter starting a new school Monday the 15th and I'm due Tuesday the 16th.

I I had two prior great inductions but they won't even talk induction until 39weeks. Thankfully baby is looking healthy and OB thinks we will be fine going to the due date. If baby isn't here by Thursday the 18th I'll probably ask to be induced then (past my EDD).

  • Also our back up plan was to sign her up for the after school care program so that if I did spontaneously go into labor, at least she could stay there until 6pm when a family or friend could pick her up after school.

  • that is my point of why I asked because I have no one to get him...  Apparently no one seems to get that.  Im not asking for you to make a decision for me I simply asked what would u do??  I dont have a problem going past my due date I'm just worried if he's in school and I go into labor I have no one to get him.  I tried to find where to post in the other forum but couldn't find where to post.  This is exactly why I have deleted my account before because as pregnant moms and having questions we should be able to ask without feeling like being bashed over a question of thought....
  • If there are no family members willing to help, and no friends you trust I would look into after school care programs. The school or district office should have information on this.

But if there is absolutely no one to pick him up then idk what to say. There has to be at least 1 person who can help out. If you live in an area where there are no family members close and no friends you trust then I suggest looking into hiring a sitter through an agency or something.

Stuck in a quote box QFP!
  • What are your plans for your hospital stay? Do you plan on bringing him with you?! And really, missing a day or two of school isn't a big deal. One of my kids may have to miss a day or two because I have no one to drive her and there's no bus
  • @xcited2beof2 it's how you phrased it. You didn't seem like you were asking a question. It was more like, hey this is what I'm going to do. Like @bananers said, you need to find some other solution. What if an emergency comes up at another time? its always a wise decision to have a back-up plan. What if something happens? I'm just wondering why this issue is just being addressed now.

I hope you are able to find the help you need or that you are able to talk to your dr about the possibility of an induction. I know mine is strongly against inducing unless it's medically necessary.

  • I don't know that we'll ever find out.. we probably made her have to delete her account..again
  • Well we did bash her for a question of thought.
  • I do have  sister that lives a few blocks away but she does not drive. He will stay at her house if so.  I'm not worried if he misses a day or two of school but his first day!?!? It set to that is where he will go if I go into labor.  My sisters husband drives but they also have 4 kids that attend school and they do not attend the same school district as my son (different counties)  and they attend a school that is the area they use to live.  So unless she changes schools for her kids this year then it wouldn't be a problem..
  •  Any doctor who would induce for such a trivial reason I wouldn't want to be my doctor. I was induced with my first baby and that ended in c section because my body wasn't ready for labor. Why potientally put yourself though that when you can just as easily work out a plan with your sister.
This exactly! I feel like a variation of this subject has been brought up so many times. Yes, maybe it's inconvenient but I think everyone's ultimate goal is whatever is safest for mom and baby. If OP ends up with a c/s, she won't be able to drive him to the first day anyway.

Do you have any mom friends, church buddies, daycare friends or even neighborhood moms that may be able to help out? When all else fails, call an uber (obviously kidding). Also, the bus stop is not within some type of walking distance?????

  • Like I said above and another posted suggested. Look into the after school care programs that could keep him. Ours does emergency drop ins too as long as they are pre registered. He could do something like that after school and your BiL could come get him later when it was more convenient.
