Pregnancy blues

I've had them on and off. Mostly, they're related to being home bound with the exception of work and meeting up with friends about once a week. And seeing my bf of course, but we don't do much but watch tv and eat lately! Before I was working out every day, going and doing stuff all the time, always had plans, traveling a lot, etc. I don't have the energy for all that these days.

Also, I've been having difficulty sleeping and on those days, I actually feel less down. Because all day at work I daydream about laying down, and I'm pretty content when I can finally do so. Today I'm actually well-rested and because of that, bummed about not having plans for the next couple of weeks. We're going to go to a baseball game this weekend, so that's something.

Tonight probably just tv and dinner. And truthfully I don't want to do anything else anyway. But I'm still mildly depressed about never wanting to do anything! It's a weird conundrum. Also I don't really have 'shows' and I never know what to watch, because I never stayed at home before to get into anything on tv or Netflix. I always busied myself with plans with friends/family or managing my side 'business' (airbnb). I almost look forward to the stress of taking care of a newborn- I definitely won't be bored!

The nice thing about not having plans is you can always makes some. I understand you're not feeling very energetic, but you may be surprised at how great a simple walk can make you feel. Sometimes DH pushes me to go for a walk (especially on nights I'm feeling blue or especially hormonal) and it does wonders. Plus, it's healthy for all of us (him, the dog, the babe, and me!).

Also, you can always try inviting some friends over for a PJ night. Wear sweats & watch a movie, which will give you plans but nothing too crazy so you don't have to worry about expending all of your energy.

Hang in there & do your best to take care of yourself.

  • I can relate so much to how you're feeling. I can so easily feel in a rut because we don't do much of anything right now, but I also don't usually have the energy to anyway. I'm a part of a postpartum psychology study and one of the things they had us do is write down what we did each day for three days and rate each activity from 1-10 on how much it made you feel accomplished, then separately how much it made you feel happy. I learned that right now, like ElcaB said, having friends over to the house is really enjoyable for me. There isn't pressure to have to be full of energy and we can either look at baby stuff/fold baby clothes together or hang out on the couch and eat preggy snacks and watch TV. Thanks for starting the dialogue! ♡
  • I'm thinking i could use some walks and time outside too. although I feel so tired, a lot of time being active also gives me energy.  I think my partner and I are going to the park this weekend. He wants to catch Pokemon anyway. Lol

I don't want anyone else to be bummed but, I'm glad im not alone! A lot of times I just need to feel like I'm doing something/involved with other people/ and have something to look forward to. Planning more stay-in nights with my friends is a good idea.
  • You are not alone. I've been feeling it a lot lately too.  It's a combination of not feeling well, never sleeping, and I've been tired this entire pregnancy.  Plus, they keep cutting my hours back at work and I'm currently down to just 4 hours A WEEK.  DS1 started back at school on Monday, so once he's gone for the day, and DH is at work, I feel pretty useless and sleep a lot.  It's incredibly hot and humid here, so I never feel up to going out for a walk, which I know I should do, especially since I have gestational diabetes too.  My only solace is that things will change really soon and I'll have plenty to do once DS2 arrives.  Hang in there, we've almost made it!
