  • @jwittwer I have always enjoyed Coldplay! Plus props to anyone who can deal with Gwyneth Paltrow for an extended period of time. I'm also so over the heat but agree, when winter is here I'll be over it as well. I cannot wait for fall though.

My UO is everyone who is a professional on DD's hair and they are driving me nuts. She has a TON of it, and everyone with bald babies likes to comment on how "it'll all just fall out in 6 months..." because that's what happened with them. I feel like this hair is sticking around, but if it falls out, whatever. I can't imagine her bald now though lol.
  • @TiffRox81 I agree. My friend got her daughter's pierced when she asked about it. It was a very fun experience and I want that for my 4 year old daughter and our lo.
  • @TiffRox81 agree. I know it's a cultural thing for some families and I respect that but it's not for me. DH's family all take their girls to do it when they're babies and I know it would have been a showdown had we had a girl.
  • @TiffRox81 us too! My oldest asked for them
for her 5th birthday so that's when we did it!
  • I'm one of the ones that did DD's ears at an early age - 9 months (wanted her to have most of her shots first), but definitely see both sides of the argument.

My parents let me decide to do it around age 4, but I played with them so much they got infected and then we ended up taking them out. I got them re-done when I was probably 12 or 13, and going through the scar tissue was terrible. I almost wish they had done it for me personally when I was younger.

We haven't had any problems with DD's ears (she hasn't played with them, they haven't gotten infected, etc). In fact, she loves to point at mine and then at hers. "Mommy's pretties. I have pretties, too."

I'm all for everyone doing what works best for them and their families  ;)

  • @austinjl I had an induced birth but no epi and still enjoyed pushing because it was a relief to be almost done. But I pushed for literally 5 minutes. I had no clue until months later that some women push for 2 or 3 hours.

@brandiK I had the opposite experience. DD's hair did all fall out at 3 months and I was really sad about it. Everyone around me, including both our moms, were quick to tell me that never happened to their babies and questioned whether or not that was normal. Thanks for rubbing it in people.

  • @whataboutscience I guess if it's going to happen, it'll just happen. I'm not sure if there's a way to predict whether it will or not, so boo on them for rubbing it in. I'll be sad if these luscious locks fall out, but they'll grow back if they do! Both DH and I had a lot of hair when we were born that stayed put, but from your story, it doesn't seem to make a difference.
  • Ear piercing - I never thought about when would be an appropriate age..being Team Green now I'm thinking about it! Not quite sure where I stand. My mom got my ears pierced when I was 3 because I was a flower girl in a wedding. My 2nd piercing I got done when I was 13 for my birthday and because that was the age that mom got her 2nd holes. I also have 2 cartilage piercings in my left ear that I got for my 18th birthday.
Probably a UO but there was a family I grew up with that had 4 girls and 1 boy. Each of the girls had piercings almost all the way up their ears by age 16 and I remember their dad once said his wife's take on it was little boys get circumsized, little girls get their ears pierced.
  • My daughter's hair never fell out, either. It just changed color. It was very very dark when she was born, and all the new stuff that grew in around 4/5 months was light light blonde! For a while, she had roots :)
  • Interesting, @givemepenguinss!! My daughter has a reddish brown hair right now, which she definitely got from my husband. As a child his hair went through many different colors. We're excited to see how hers changes over time!! I have olive skin and dark brown hair which is nothing like hers. Something tells me she's going to do exactly as my husband did and go blonde, red, then back to auburn.
  • We have a girl and DH and I differ on ear piercing. I feel mean doing it to a baby, although I think it's adorable. I figure it's a common enough practice that she'll likely want it eventually though, so as soon as she asks for it and understands they will use needles that may hurt, I am happy to take her. Maybe age 3ish if she's interested? DH thinks that's still too young.

@setosh I agree with the curls on little boys! DD has blonde hair and curls that I adore. I'm Italian, and the only blonde I have ever had is fake. DH was blonde until he was about 7 or 8, and I can't wait to see if this guy has my hair or DH
  • DD was born with black hair which never fell out but did turn blonde. DH has black hair and mine is dark blonde. I am curious if DD2's hair also lightens up.
