Re: Working Mom's Check In 7/18/16

  • Any major projects to finish this week? A few projects since my boss is out this week and I'd rather keep busy then be bored out of my mind. Already bought diaper bags and researched alot of stuff so not much left to do baby wise - at least while I'm at work.

How's replacement training coming?  Haven't formally started yet but I got the slides done for her to review before we begin. I'm eager to train but part of me doesn't want to let go! Ha, yet I tell DH I won't be heartbroken if baby comes early...

Focus - high hopes or laying low? Doubt it will be high but hopefully enough to count as productive and get a few to do's checked off the list. Fingers xx!

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? Work - training backup; Home - get the darn crib setup and prepped. Oh and get the car seat put back together since we washed it.

  • Any major projects to finish this week?
yes! We have 4 restaurants at our corporate offices and we are doing a "table tour" this week where we will set up a booth and talk to employees about the big project I've been working on. Pretty excited that the first step is finally happening!

    How's replacement training coming?
I'm still working on writing out instructions for my coworkers. It's kind of hard because I don't know where my projects will be when I leave. I won't be starting anything new between now and then, but I'm not sure if I'll be done with everything or what to tell them about what to do.

Focus - high hopes or laying low?
    Laying low!!!!!!

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes?
I would really like to get my big project done, but it really all
    depends on the city.
  • @chavezrd2 I'm having a hard time letting go too. I really, really want this big project to be done before I leave, and honestly, it's because I want all the credit for it because it was my idea, I work with all men that think they know more than me, and it will be a really impressive thing knce it's done. I don't want them getting it.
  • Any major projects to finish this week? No major projects per se, but a lot of meetings and depositions and such during the next several weeks.  My boss has already taken me off new work coming in, so I just need to try to get my caseload down as close to zero as I can be before going out.

How's replacement training coming?  They've hired someone, and I think I know who it is but it hasn't been announced yet and therefore we haven't started any training yet.  I'm not sure what the hold up is but the delay isn't helping anybody.

Focus - high hopes or laying low? Beginning of the week I'm good, but come Wed/Thurs, I have zero focus.  It doesn't help that it's just now hitting me that we only have about 60 days left and I still feel like there are a million things to do, my actual work not being one of them.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? I just need to get my current inventory down to zero.  My teammates will be picking up the slack big time while I'm out so the less I leave for them to clean up, the better.
  • Any major projects to finish this week?: Not really.

How's replacement training coming?: Good. I've been given the green-light to "shove him out of the nest" and start letting him take everything over. I've been helping out doing tasks I used to do before I took my position over last year, and I'm actually loving the change of pace.

Focus - high hopes or laying low?: I'm somewhere in the middle. Now that I've got something to shake things up a bit, I find myself a bit perkier. Also, my coworkers completely surprised me with a Game of Thrones-themed shower here at work on Friday, so I'm still kind of riding the warm fuzzy high from that!

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes?: Just keep on truckin', keep on training, try not to fall asleep at my desk...

  • Any major projects to finish this week?   Always...

How's replacement training coming?  There is no replacement, my cases are being covered by a co-worker and my supervisor.  This is pushing me for resolutions, as I don't want to burden them.

Focus - high hopes or laying low? Trying everything to stay focused.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? Having all of my paperwork/files in order.
  • Any major projects to finish this week? We are in the process of working on 1 and starting 3 on my team

How's replacement training coming? No replacement, work will just get divided out

Focus - high hopes or laying low?  Really laying low, I have been just trying to take on the little tasks. I really want to talk with them about only working on the stuff I know and small things because right now I have a completely new project on my plate that I just don't have the brain power to start.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? Just have to keep chucking along.

  • Any major projects to finish this week? Nothing major. They're doing a good job of giving me busy work knowing that I could be done at any time now.

How's replacement training coming? I don't really have anything to transfer over to anyone. I'm just leaving notes in our application and my team will use those.

Focus - high hopes or laying low?  Laying low as per usual lately.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? I'm just trying to get through each day to get through each week.

  • Any major projects to finish this week?
Last week of real work for my 2 interns. Next week they will present their projects to the other marketing departments and it's imperative we show how hard they have worked, so this week is crunch time! Unfortunately I'm super sleepy and not in the mood to work hard.
    How's replacement training coming?
Wondering when my boss is going to send out the job posting for my replacement. Since I'm outta here come Sep 1st, I may need to remind him this week about it.
Focus - high hopes or laying low?
Somewhere in the middle, not expecting an extremely focused week but looking to get plenty done.
Main thing to accomplish before baby comes?
We have several boxes cluttering our condo living room filled with furniture that has to be assembled asap. I'll be sweetly reminding my husband to get that all done THIS weekend!!
  • @runningisrad - Your coworkers are obviously awesome! How fun!!

  • Any major projects to finish this week? Nope... just weekly taskers and meetings to attend

How's replacement training coming? My supervisor will be taking over my position while I'm gone so thankfully there is no training to be given from me.  However, I am still learning this position so I am sure there will be more for me to learn.

Focus - high hopes or laying low?  Laying low for sure! I will be out until the week before Christmas once baby comes and I have already considered the rest of this year a wash.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? We need to finish decorating the baby's room and putting all of her stuff together.  I also need to wash her clothes and get them put away.

  • Any major projects to finish this week? Need to get my quarterly report out, but waiting on an analyst to send me some data that I need to incorporate

How's replacement training coming? Nada. A coworker who does a semi-similar job (another pharmacist) will be doing my work on top of his. He just keeps my program alive while I'm out - and did the same my last maternity leave. Basically need to write up a list of priorities for him

Focus - high hopes or laying low? Somewhere between I guess?

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? For work - clean my desk? hahaha, I really like leaving with a perfectly clean desk so I can return to one as well.  I need to talk to coworker a bit about my program here in this state - the same program is supposed to be starting up in 3 or 4 other states as well, so you'd think I would be training a whole bunch of people right now but it's just not that organized. Ugh, not my fault!

  • Any major projects to finish this week? Huge billing deadline on Monday, no fun for me. I am a bad procrastinator and have put a lot of things off that I will likely be doing all week and weekend.

How's replacement training coming? My replacement does not start until August 15, although I am attempting to prep for her now.

Focus - high hopes or laying low? Trying to lie low until I go out - I have had some unexpected trials go forward the past few weeks, really hoping to avoid any more of those until I am back from leave. I need time to get things organized.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? Get my cases in order and notes/ outlines made to pass to whoever will be shuffling them along when I am out.

@chavezrd2 @MrsVoorhees I am terrible about letting go or letting anyone else handle anything. My work would probably let me hand things off whenever I wanted, but I have this nagging feeling others will somehow miss something or not do a good job, which is probably totally baseless.

@runningisrad THAT IS AMAZING! Also I couldn't remember who else was naming their boy Jude for the life of me (your first name is slightly different IIRC - my boy will be a Julian, yours a Julius?). I am sure hoping Julian Castro isn't the VP pick this year, I just don't want to end up with an election year name on accident. Ha.
  • So we just had our weekly team meeting. I decided to tell them that my brain is no longer function like it normally does and we will need to start giving me the easy stuff (usually the newbies job). I have worked for the company for almost 6 years and in my current job for 1.5 years. I just can't take on new stuff I have never done before right now.

My team was very supportive, made jokes and overall agreed that I am losing my touch but thats ok! It was a relief to put it out there bc I hate not pulling my weight but I have less than 7 weeks left and I have done pretty damn well up until now.

  • @jas1982 yep, that is right. His legal name will be Julius. And even if it ends up being an election year name, I LOVE the name Julian!

  • Any major projects to finish this week? Yes, I have 2 huge tax returns I have to finish in the next couple of weeks.  They are seriously kicking my butt... I don't understand where my brain went.

How's replacement training coming? I wont have a replacement but there are some tasks I will need to train one of my seniors to do.  That's on my to do list.

Focus - high hopes or laying low?  Trying so hard to lay low... I'm having trouble finishing what I do have and the thought of taking on anything else just makes me want to cry. I hate feeling like this because I am usually so focused on work.  I worked so hard to become a CPA and start my career... now I am just so ready for maternity leave!

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? Making sure my due date list is complete (the next tax deadline is 9/15... which happens to be my due date!) I still have a handful of things that need to go out so I have to make sure they are either reassigned or finished before I leave!
  • Any major projects to finish this week? No sadly, but hopefully progress made.

How's replacement training coming? Bahahahaha - so awful. I do the same role as a person in a different location, and so this other person will cover for me while I am out. I supervise a large team, and so his coverage will be largely administrative. Even though my due date is early September, for 8 weeks he is planning to spend every other week with me in my location to "learn" my job - remember we do the exact same thing.

Today he told me he wants to spend time getting to know the members of my team on a personal level. And he hugged all the female team members.

I may lose my shit any day now, I don't think I can survive with him hanging around till I leave.

Focus - high hopes or laying low?

High hopes, I still have a lot to do before I leave, and I am hoping it makes the time pass quickly.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes?

    A giant to-do list. :(

  • @nativetexan512 he....he hugged them?? God, that would be uncomfortable. What did the girls think?!
  • MrsVoorhees everyone, male and female, thinks he is insane.

At one point, he went in to hug a team member in front of me, and I said out loud "oh wow, we're hugging?" (word vomit). He turned to me and said "oh yes, I am a hugger." SO awkward and uncomfortable and not ok. We have so many sexual harassment trainings that discuss how harassment is in the eye of the beholder, I'm not sure how he missed them.

I specifically told him, I prefer not to be touched, and I have told other folks to tell him the same thing. Counting down the next 6-7 weeks...

  • @nativetexan512 be a hugger with your family! Not strangers that you're now working with! I hate when people use that as an end all argument. "Oh, I'm a hugger, so you're getting hugged." Okay, I'm not a hugger so back the F up. I'm a hugger with people I know and love, not people I work with. At least you'll come back to a team that's super excited to see you after leave :) that will be nice!
  • Any major projects to finish this week? I have some deliverables I would like to get out this week. They are technically due next week, but I want to get something accomplished this week.

How's replacement training coming? I don't have a replacement.  The team will just divide the work, but with how things are going we may finish the project before I leave anyways.

Focus - high hopes or laying low?  Mostly laying low.  I am not picking up an new projects and just riding it out.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? Wrapping up this project before baby comes.  Seems doable.

  • Any major projects to finish this week? Just one, huge, ongoing project that I'm working tirelessly to manage and certainly won't complete before I go.  Just trying to keep up with the timeline each week and stay organized enough to hand it off at some point (probably with no warning or notice as I'm in labor) and make sure whoever it gets dumped on has enough info to continue seamlessly.  Oye.

How's replacement training coming? N/A - I've handed off / trained coworkers on a couple minor tasks to cover while I'm out but this big project has no plan set for what happens when I'm gone.

Focus - high hopes or laying low? I want to lay low.  This project is stressing me out.  OB asked me to cut back at work after my L&D visit last week but being away just makes it worse because I come back to more and more and can't keep up.  I really wish I could just hand it off to someone and then "support" them until I'm gone.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? Honestly?  Just save face until I'm out.  Keep up with this project just enough to make it look like I have my sh*t together but not so much that it continues to stress me out.  I want baby to stay in until at least 37 weeks.  That's my biggest job right now.

@nativetexan512 Your replacement sounds...interesting...  How is someone like him even in a supervisory role!?

  • Any major projects to finish this week? I was off on Monday to recover from our BabyQ on Sunday, but it did put me behind at work. I'm a graphic designer in packaging so I constantly have different projects to work on. I had 7 new items for one customer alone. I had an appt yesterday which took me away from work for far too long so I ended up working at home in the evening to catch up. I did, however, finish these 7 items this afternoon which took some weight off. I had a bunch of approvals to have printing plates made so I set those up. I have one more approval to do first thing tomorrow and then I have a new major creative beer case to work on after that. I love what I do, but it can me stressful at times.

How's replacement training coming?N/A - I don't have someone coming to replace me. The way my job works is that there are plants all over the US and Canada and we can generally work on any job from anywhere. So coworkers from my old office in Canada will be handling my art responsibilities when I'm off. I'm happy I don't need to train someone new, but I know the replacements make a lot of mistakes so I'm concerned how everything will turn out in my absence.

Focus - high hopes or laying low? I honestly don't have much of a choice so I'm busting my butt until I leave. I have yet to take a sick day, but I did ask about the possibility of working from home as my due date comes up if it gets tough for me. My supervisor approved it so that's a relief and a weight off so I don't have to use my leave early.

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes?  Nothing specific - every day is a little different for me. I will likely have another 60 jobs to complete by then, maybe more. I also have my performance review coming around the same time so I need to finalize that by entering data and such into my form for evaluation. Will need to make a plan for my leave - my work doesn't let me get a plan going until 30 days before my due date. So I have that to work on soon enough...

Any major projects to finish this week? I had some big deadlines last week and catch up stuff this week.

How's replacement training coming? She starts next week! We'll job share until I leave and when I return. Luckily, it's a friend of mine.

Focus - high hopes or laying low? Laying low. My OB put me on reduced hours due to my insomnia. This will allow me to be engaged at work longer and not feel like I have to "power through".

Main thing to accomplish before baby comes? We have our office summer bash 3 weeks before my due date.

  • So my supervisor contacted me today about possibly wanting me to fly to Chicago for work for a week in August. It would be to train some new people on our workflows and processes to get them more up to par. I didn't give an answer as I said I needed to talk to DH and possibly my OB first. I appreciate that they think so highly of me to do this training (I've trained people in the past), but after talking to DH we don't think it's a great idea. Too close to D day and not worth the risks involved. So I'm going to politely decline the offer. It wasn't a for sure thing and I would be one of a few people going. I will offer to have them send someone to me (as they've done in the past), but explain that the travel isn't going to work this far along. I'm sure they'll understand considering the circumstances. There are about 40 others that do the same job I do so they have others they can choose as my replacement.
  • @rock1cherry maybe it's one of those situations where they kind of know you won't be able to, but don't want to assume you can't do it because you're pregnant and want to let you make that decision instead of making it for you?
  • That's totally possible @MrsVoorhees she kind of said she didn't know what I'd think considering I'm due the following month. Normally I'd be all for it. I love taking on extra tasks and training people, but this time it's just not going to work.

Funny side note-  I got a birthday card from the director of my division in the company and in my card it read "happy  you're on the team...and so glad you're only off briefly...even if that's insane" he's Canadian so he doesn't understand the maternity leave in the USA. Nor I buddy! But it's nice to feel appreciated and know that my presence will be missed when I'm off.
