Just had to share!

I just had to share this because I think it's so interesting and maybe another mama may read this and find it helpful!

So my daughter will be 11 months next week (seriously fastest 11 months of my life!) As of 10 months old she was not clapping, waving, crawling, or trying to sign any words. Whenever I tried to teach her anything she would sit and stare at me. Also, she would not play independently or happily.. she spent a lot of time whining. Whenever I expressed my concerns to anyone (including my doctor) they would say "all kids develop differently.. it's okay". This is true but I just found it so strange that since around 6/7 months she seemed to stop progressing!

Anyway, long story short she ended up being referred to a pediatrician because she was gaining weight very slowly (still just shy of 14lbs!). He ordered bloodwork for her and we discovered that he iron levels were "dangerously low"! (The nurses words.  Yikes!)

So she is now on iron supplement drops. Within 3 days of taking these she started waving.. then clapping. Now it's been two weeks and she is CRAWLING. She is starting to sign "more". She is giggly and happy and plays independently. She likes to dance with me and she is learning new things every day. She is a brand new kid!!

I just think it's so crazy. I just knew something was off with her. I had to share incase there are any other mamas out there who notice similar things with their LO.. it could be low iron!

Added the picture for cuteness (my LO and her cousin :))

ETA: Sorry I had to rewrote the whole thing for some reason only a few sentences posted the first time haha.

  • Aw. They're super cute. It does go by so quickly, doesn't it?

  • Good for you to keep asking questions! Your mom instincts were right on!

Did if they say why they were so low?
  • @dmbfan46835 she is breastfed so it may be because of that, although have actually been conscious about feeding her food high on iron... so I'm really not sure!
  • I'm so glad you trusted your gut! Wtg Momma and so glad she's doing better.

We are breastfed too and I always worry he's not getting what he needs too. I do the poly vi sol drops in bottles of BM so I hope that makes up for whatever I'm not making enough of. Scary stuff! It's crazy how much something like that can affect our LOs!
  • Thank you for sharing! This is a worry of mine so it pushed me to get the poly-vi-sol as well. LO isn't eating many meats and I hate just *hoping* the oatmeal and purees are enough. My DS isn't clapping and tends to only play independently for a short amount of time and is often whiny. Hoping it helps us!
  • @leeeahyo I hope it helps too!! Keep me updated!!
