Gift for New Mom

Friday I'm travelling to visit a best friend who had her baby about two months ago. They live in a really small city apartment and don't have a lot of room for stuff but I wanted to bring them something. I can't really bring perishable foods or drinks on the plane obviously, but I'm coming up blank on ideas for something they might want or need. Does anyone have any ideas? Could be baby or parent related.

I think a gift card of any sort is a good route - spa day for mom, night out to dinner (if they are ready to leave baby with a sitter), takeout, even Walmart or Target so they can use it for whatever...

I agree with gift cards. I tend to always get new parents gift cards to Target or somewhere similar so they can use it for whatever they need most at the time.

They cloth diaper or that's totally what I would have done!

I know gift cards are the most useful gift but they aren't the most thoughtful gift, ya know? She's one of my best friends, I'd like to do something a little more personal. Keep the ideas coming!
  • For my bff who is mom to 2 toddlers I make sure to get her presents that are just for her - I know ppl give u baby presents on ur bday and Christmas once u have kids but I don't like that - so once I got her a designer bag that was not diaper bag but Sth she'd enjoy, I also have gotten her spa stuff and high end cosmetics. I just think of regular presents for her that she'd enjoy and that have nothing to do with babies. Similarly I wouldn't get my hubby toys for our baby or daddy stuff on hubby's bday / instead id get hubby Sth just for him like a Burberry scarf he'd enjoy

That's just how I feel, I think pl wud overwhelm u w baby presents - id rather someone get me jewelry than a baby onesie when they come visit me in hospital or after - from my perspective, our baby is gonna have ton of stuff anyways and I'm the one who labored for hours so I feel like if u bring a post birth present how about some diamonds for the brave mom
  • One of my girlfriends got me an Alex & Ani birth stone bracelet when I had DS1 and it was really nice of her! That was 3 years ago. So I am sure there is a newer line I'm just out of date!

We we also got gifted cash from a friends mom for when we didn't want to cook dinner and order take out and that was great!

otherwise a spa gift card or even Sephora! I feel like I never spend money on myself anymore so it's always nice to get a special gift card!

Do they have any holiday traditions?  For instance, in our family, new baby's get an embroidered Christmas stocking with their name and an engraved Christmas ornament. Maybe some sort of keepsake like that?

  • I like the jewellery idea, maybe with some flowers& a nice card! Or a basket of her fave treats!
  • If they cloth diaper, get them a service gift card.  I'm sure a mom with a newborn could use some help cleaning diapers!

  • I ended up getting him a couple winter outfits and got her a gift card for grocery delivery. She's such a practical person that I think a spa day or jewelry would be completely lost on her. This way I know she'll actually use it. Thanks for the suggestions ladies!
