Stomach sleeping. Advice?

Hey guys, I tried finding this with search, but never found anything relevant.

So, I've always been a stomach sleeper. Sometimes I can fall asleep on my right side or left side, but lately I've been having issues with my legs being restless and I haven't been able to fall asleep unless I'm on my tummy.

I guess question is, is this something I need to seriously worry about right now? I'm plus size and 15W 4D and I'm afraid I'll hurt the baby.

Any experience or advice with this?
TIA.

  • I'm a stomach sleeper too. For each pregnancy I always sleep on my stomach until it becomes too uncomfortable to do so.

And then when it does, I often prop pillows under my hips and under my chest to kind of create a hollow space for my belly if that makes sense.

  • I'm usually a stomach sleeper too but at 16w with twins it's soooo uncomfortable (started getting there around 10 weeks so I think your days of comfortable belly sleeping are seriously numbered)  ;) you definitely won't be able to sleep on your stomach even accidentally much longer
  • Thank you,  everyone,  for the advice! My FTM is showing a little today. :D It is starting to get where I feel a little discomfort, but it's good to know it'll be way more obvious.
    Thanks again!  <3

  • I've read that you can use an inflatable inner tube to help make it more comfortable to sleep on your stomach once your bump starts growing :) And since it's summer, those things are everywhere!

My stomach sleeping ended about a week ago. For me it was obviously uncomfortable.

  • @LCartee2016 @PMForbie I've been using an inflatable tube to allow me to still sleep on my stomach (I'm 15 weeks now). It's comfortable on days when my boobs aren't super sore. I'm very busty so on sore days I can't sleep with them smashed again the tube lol!

There are other products like it. But this one was just advertised on my Facebook wall. They even make ones that not only have a hole for bump but your breasts as well.
  • I use the snoogle already and love it. I have back problems so haven't slept on my side in over ten years... It's really hard for me to get comfortable so the snoogle helps

  • I'm still able to belly sleep. When I was pregnant with my daughter, toward the end, I was SO looking forward to sleeping on my belly again. It's a beautiful thing, until your gigantic lactating milkers start spewing milk all over. :)
Like everyone said, your body will tell you when you can no longer sleep that way.
  • I am too, @thepax89.  I generally have a weird stomach/left side sleep thing going on because I keep my right leg up near my chest.  So it's really like the left side of my stomach is stomach sleeping, and my right side is more lifted up lol  I find it virtually impossible to fall asleep in another other position.  I've been trying to train myself to start more in a true side sleeping position so it's not jarring when I just can't do it anymore.  I ordered a Snoogle...maybe that will help.
  • I am still belly sleeping at 13wks tomorrow, but I'm starting to feel a hardness, boo (but yay for baby!).  When I stomach sleep, I often bend one leg and kind of bring it up under me and that helps prop my stomach up a little and prolong the stomach sleeping, at least it did with my other two.
@ThePax89 with my first pregnancy, I was SO excited to get back to stomach sleeping, and it never occurred to me that my rock hard, extremely full, milky boobs would hinder that for a few weeks after the baby came!  What a let down (ha! No pun intended.).
  • Im 16w Wednesday and still belly sleeping. Odly enough I'm not even showing (hence why i never post on hdbd. Nothing to show) I'm actually pretty small/petite so im surprised. My doctor said it was fine because baby is measuring normal at this stage. My mom was the same though. Didn't start showing until about 20weeks And only put on 18lbs. I've put on none so far and can still rock my bikini. Here is to hoping I'm like my mama. I'm going off on a rant...sorry!! But basically still comfortably belly sleeping but also trying to prepare for not so I'm enjoying reading all this advice.
  • Thanks everyone for all the great advice and for putting my FTM fears to rest!! <3  <3  <3

  • As a STM, I'll just add I was a devoted stomach sleeper most of my life. Like many of you I did the hike the leg thing. After about 20 weeks with my DS, I could no longer sleep on my stomach, and I started to train myself to sleep on my side. I had a C-section and couldn't sleep on my stomach after having him either. I got so used to sleeping on my side that I'm now a full-time side sleeper, and I hate sleeping on my stomach.

I officially can't stomach sleep anymore.  :'( I think I'm going to invest in a snoggle and see if that makes side sleeping more comfortable.

  • I love stomach sleeping. Some nights even now it feels uncomfortable, like there's pressure. Then it upsets my stomach. I find it's very comfortable to sleep on my back with my arms over my head and legs stretched out. It helps to ease my stomach and stretch my achy muscles.

  • @LoneStar21416 I sleep that way too but I was actually able to sleep that way all the way through my last pregnancy. My leg kept the weight off my belly so it wasn't ever uncomfortable
