July IUI

Re: July IUI

  • Happy Friday, ladies! I am moving ahead day by day and trying to keep anxiety at bay by staying busy. DH and I went to see Secret Life of Pets last night and I am going to our city's minor league baseball team tonight. Not sure what I will do with the rest of my weekend yet.

I start Clomid tomorrow and injections (menopur) on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then on Thursday I will have an u/s to determine timing of the IUI.

@jkd2388 I have always been in the drink til it's pink camp, but since I am spending significant money on this procedure (none covered by ins.), I decided to not drink this cycle. It's a personal decision for everyone, and if I were going somewhere where people would be inclined to ask me why I wasn't drinking, I may have one or two just to shut them up.

@Toby102008 I am sorry for your hurry up and wait experience, but I too hope that it just means that by Thursday things will be right where they need to be.

I am grateful that my SIL is a medical professional; I have her give me all my shots. DH is capable, but we both just feel a little more comfortable with her doing it. And she lives really close to us, so it's quite convenient.

As far as diet goes; I am just trying to eat whole foods (not exclusively, but more than I usually do). Sunflower seeds and pineapple core are both supposed to support implantation, so I may eat some after procedure, but if I didn't enjoy them, I probably wouldn't fool with it. For the pineapple, you can eat the core and the meat, so I just cut the pineapple into five large slices and then cut each portion into edible pieces (one portion per day for five days, 1DPO - 5DPO). This method makes the core more edible in my opinion. Eating it on its own can be tough.

Hope all of you have a great weekend!

  • @jkd2388 No, you definitely shouldn't have to hide it. I know it's hard to talk about, but sometimes family can be very supportive. I had finally opened up to my family awhile ago and they were great. Plus, my cousin and his wife went through this with their second child. They went right to IVF after a few failed Clomid and TI cycles and it worked. But I think you'd be okay to drink a little. I wouldn't go wild, but I don't think a few glasses will do any harm. Have fun at the weddings!

@fivetimesnoluck Well, it looks like we will both be anxiously awaiting Thursday. Fx for good follies! Have fun at the baseball game!
  • Loading the player...
  • @Toby102008 I'm so sorry for the frustration and waiting.  All the waiting is excruciating.  I try really hard to keep myself distracted with projects around the house, doing fun things with single friends who don't have babies on the brain, and trying to read books or do things that I think maybe I won't get to do much with a baby around. It always creeps into my mind though, as hard as I try to keep it at bay.

@jkd2388 and @kristynelson13 I plan to "drink til it's pink", like 1-2 drinks, enough to not draw attention to myself...  I hate how everyone is always watching like a hawk if you are drinking or not.  My cousin saw me last weekend and didn't even say hi, she just asked "are you drinking?", and I was like "YES" *eye roll* GRR.

@Isthisthereallife I think the full bladder thing is supposed to help optimize the positioning of your cervix and uterus.  So they aren't kinked out of shape.  Then the catheter goes in easier, and maybe the path to the egg will be easier too.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies!! I'm going to be in the drink till it's pink club then.
  • @lady_grey Thanks for the advice. DH and I have been getting out of the house and going fishing, out to eat, movies, etc. We live away from all my friends so the only friend close by is the one with the baby who I've distanced myself from due to a lot of stuff she's said to me. I think I need to get out more with some of the friends I've made at work. I can't sit home feeling sorry for myself.

So DH and I looked over the cost of IUI with injectables. And it's not worth it for us to spend that kind of money just to do IUI. It's better to save and move to IVF if it comes to that point. Our odds are a million times better for the price we'd be paying. So I'm keeping my fx the Femara still might work for me. It's just sad insurance doesn't cover IF treatments. I wish I could find a way to get involved to fight for insurances to cover this. Anyone know any way to get involved with something like that?

  • Does anyone take additional folic acid besides what's in the prenatal? I was reading something at the dr yesterday that said 1000mcg is recommended, but my prenatal only has 800. If you buy a separate folic acid supplement it's 400mcg. So was just wondering what everyone else is taking. Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far!
  • @jkd2388 I take what's in my prenatal 1mg (1000mcg) I was also taking fertilaid which had 600mcg but it was making me nauseous every time I took it so I stopped. So just on the prenatal and vitamin d because that was low. Hope you're weekend is going well too!

    Month/Cycle: 26/14

    CD or DPO:  CD 3

WAYDTGKU: Metformin 2000 mg, IUI with injectables and possibly Femara (will find out RX info at tomorrow's baseline ultrasound).

    IUI Date: 7/26-7/28

Testing: CD 14 if no period

What is the most random thing you’ve ever watched all the way through on Netflix? My husband and I spent a few weeks watching all the episodes of Grey's Anatomy.
ETA: 3 failed IUIs with 7.5 mg Femara, this will be the 1st with injectables.
  • Hey all,
hope everyone had a great weekend.
I'm wondering if any of you experienced this..,Trying to figure out how to explain this without too much tmi :) Ever since maybe Thursday last week I've been feeling this pain in my left side, lower abdomen and uterus. And I actually have to hold the area when I try and go to the bathroom because of how much it hurts. I'm hoping it's just constipation, but I've never felt anything like this before... My RE has me on progesterone and estrogen and I'm only DPO 3. Thoughts? I'll probably shoot an email over to my RE too.

  • I get that kind of pain when I ovulate but it only lasts a day or so. I'm on progesterone as well and it makes me bloated which can cause discomfort. Maybe it's just related to the hormones? Hope you feel better soon!
  • @jkd2388 that's what I'm thinking too. This is the first month I'm on progesterone so it's a whole new world for me  :D:D

  • How are you feeling on it? Besides bloating I just get extremely tired.
  • @jkd2388. I'm Really tired too... And whatever this gas/bloating pain is. If I could this gas pain/constipation thing to go away I'd feel ok. I read that it can delay your periods too. So we shall see. Mine are always on time, 24 days on the nose.

  • Mine are too. Last cycle once I got my bfn I stopped the progesterone and two days later my period came, which was on schedule with when I was due. They say once you stop the progesterone it will come in a few days. When is your beta scheduled for?
  • @jkd2388 that's good to know. And totally Messes with the mind I bet!!! my beta is Friday July 29th.... But my period is supposed to be the Monday before on the 25th. I've historically had short Luteal phase typically 7 or 8 days, which I'm assuming is partially why I'm on progesterone

  • Hi Everyone!! Hope you all had a great weekend!

@jkd2388 My prenatal has 800mg and then I take an additional 400mg separate because my RE suggested it. He said that you want at least 1000mg but only perspiration ones have that much.

@lady_grey that makes sense! Full bladder for me then. I want the path of least resistance.

Does/did anyone else have any side effects on Clomid? I'm on my first Clomid cycle and have taken 2 pills and am having lots of side effects. Dull headache since yesterday, bloated, my family said I'm a little moody...(I don't buy it)! What have you guys experienced?

  • @isthisthereallife I was absolutely crazy on Clomid. Lol. I had the worst mood swings of my life. Freaking out over nothing, screaming at DH. And hot flashes, terrible hot flashes. The Femara has been so much better for me. I had a headache the first and last day I took it the first time. And now that I'm on the 7.5mg I've had a few hot flashes and some cramping yesterday and this morning. I'm hoping the cramping is follies growing. But other than that I've felt pretty good. I've heard a lot of people have bad experiences with Clomid and mood swings. "Clomid crazies" is the term they use.
  • Isthisthereallife Yeah I am not sure I could give myself a shot...but if any of them ovideral would be the only option. Not sure I could reach back and aim correctly etc when trying to get the Pregynl into my butt area.

Not much side effects from Clomid but it was ages ago that I was taking it...so I might have forgot...honestly I was tracking my symptoms so hard early on that I feel like I felt more of them...now I don't document as much and I feel better...

kristynelson13 Welcome! I hope your trigger and IUI went well! FX for you! There is a netflix about a girl that grew up in a bunker? I want to watch that! How big were your follies? Is this your first IUI? My husband also hates needles!! He is more upset by the process than me usually.

Sorry to hear about the pain. What did your dr say? I have had some sorta symptoms like that around ovulation and such but none this cycle.

SJG I am sorry you haven't been feeling well. I will hope you don't have to increase. I swear TWW's seem to last forever! What do you take endometrin for during the TWW? I haven't heard of it prescribed then.

lady_grey Glad your IUI went well - even if cold! :) Interesting about the full bladder thing..glad I am always reading up! I hope your BBQ was awesome! Distraction is so important during the TWW. Never enough distraction though usually for me.

Toby102008 I am sorry to hear about the tiny follies...but hopefully the piggyback cycle will grow them into little beasts!! I have also felt about the same way about overstiulization...like dude give me all the meds! I have had to cancel a ton of cycles because of not responding uniformly to the meds I get... and whenever we have to cancel I am so freaking bummed! So I am glad they are letting you take more and check again! Fingers crossed for you!

jkd2388 I don't drink much as it is...but I swear since trying to get knocked up I often crave a drink here or there and I sorta feel like I have been trying for a year and a half...you can't always live life thinking about the what if...gotta have some fun living along the way. :) So I hope you had a great time at the wedding and had a drink or two. :)

Also I use to take a double dose of Folic Acid (for like a year) but I haven't even been awesome about taking prenatals this last cycle. TTC fail on my part I guess. I have also heard your body can only absorb so much Folic Acid at once so if your doubling up maybe look at taking one in the morning and one at night?

bpfeiff1984 Good luck at the US.

Some fun questions for the group:
    1. Do you already have baby names picked our or discussed?
    2. If I might ask...how old are you?
    3. What did you do this weekend?
    4. Do you have pets?

@Isthisthereallife Hey There! Thank you! Trigger was last Tuesday & I had my IUI last thursday and it went great. They say it was at 15mil, which I hope is good enough :)
At the time of my Ultrasound last Monday, my follies were at 13, 14, 14 & 17.  First medicated cycle & first IUI.
2 on each side. So hopefully by the time I did my IUI they grew a little :)

Netflix series is called Unbreakable. The actress in there is Kimmy Schmidt. If you watched the Office, you will recognize her. Its pretty entertaining.

    1. Do you already have baby names picked our or discussed? Havent even discussed baby names yet... trying to not get too far ahead of ourselves if it doesnt happen
    2. If I might ask...how old are you? 34, DH is 44
    3. What did you do this weekend? DH bought us Segways which I know I shouldnt ride if I become pregnant. We rode them all around downtown DC & on Saturday night went out for dinner/drinks
    4. Do you have pets? 2 kitties that are about a year old

  • Good morning! I am intrigued by the Clomid crazies. I take a small dose, but have definitely been sleeping hot that last two days (since I started it). As for mood swings, they are just a part of life at this point. After trying this long, it's pretty hard to pin it to one cause. :/ DH is (mostly) patient and very tolerant.

I am anxious about the procedure and the TWW.... but just trying to keep it in check. I am not very busy at work and don't have a lot of plans for the period of TWW, so I will have to find ways to keep my mind busy.

    1. Do you already have baby names picked our or discussed?
I know we are in a different boat than many here, but since I have had previous conceptions, we have had names. We haven't made it far enough along in a while to really discuss them again, but I think we both feel like we will start a fresh discussion when we get far enough along with our take home baby.
    2. If I might ask...how old are you?
Turned 38 in May. DH will be 33 in September. I feel the clock ticking against me, for sure.
    3. What did you do this weekend?
DH went for a touch up to a tattoo on Friday and then we just hung around the house. Unfortunately on Saturday morning we had a big fight... but we made up and moved on by the afternoon. Went to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner and had a couple of beers (so much for not drinking!). Then we went home and watched Homeward Bound... random, but I had never seen it and husband said I needed to. It was sweet.
Yesterday I slept in while DH went to play golf. Then we BD just for fun when he got home! That was awesome and a nice stress reliever.
    4. Do you have pets?
Yes, three dogs and one cat. We also have a stray cat that has been hanging out on our front porch for about a month. We haven't fed her, but we can't figure out who she belongs to.... if anyone.

  • Welcome, @bpfeiff1984 - good luck!

@kristynelson13 Segway tour sounds super fun! There is a tour company in the city where I live that uses them.... I always get a kick out of seeing people riding them around town.

@BecauseLove I am with you on not documenting too much - I have driven myself crazy before trying to analyze every little thing. Now I just try and wait it out. I remind myself I have done what I can

I hope everyone else is feeling good! Anyone testing or going in for procedure this week? It looks like @daboz may be testing soon! Fingers and toes crossed for us all!

  • @Toby102008 That's interesting (and scary)! I'll have to see what happens. I think I'm also focusing a lot on the symptoms like @becauselove said. I'm so anxious for Thursday and trying to keep my mind off of it. It's hard though.

@kristynelson13 So exciting!! Keep us posted on how you're feeling!! :)

Some fun questions for the group:
    1. Do you already have baby names picked our or discussed?
We talked about some names, but I don't think anything seriously. I know a girl name that I'm really focused on. DH said he liked it so we'll see!

    2. If I might ask...how old are you?
    I'm 29 and DH is 30

    3. What did you do this weekend?
This weekend we kept working on the house. DH got the floors installed in the "nursery". They're coming out great!! So excited to have another room done.
As we remodeled, we decided to paint that room a neutral kids color so that we can have it be the nursery when the time comes.

    4. Do you have pets?
We have a dog. He's my baby. He's about 6 years old, husky, sheppard, collie. Rescued him when he was about 1.

Are you going in for IUI Thursday or U/S? Sorry I missed it if you said earlier!

  • @fivetimesnoluck Awwww!! I love muts. Mine is like 40 pounds and a big baby. He's the best though.

I have my U/S on Thursday. If follies are mature, then IUI maybe Friday or Saturday. Otherwise I start Gonal-F on Thursday.

Thursdays a biggie for both of us!! I just hate being limbo but that seems to be all the IF is.

  • @becauselove My biggest fear is having a canceled cycle. We won't do injectables because the cost is too much for the low chances of IUI. We will just move to IVF if that's the case. I'm just hoping the Femara works! I can't even begin to think of the cost of IVF out of pocket!

@fivetimesnoluck I'm going in for my second US and hopefully IUI this week. US is Thursday and if follies responded this time IUI maybe next weekend?

@isthisthereallife Everyone responds different so you might get lucky. And I know what you mean. After having bad news last Friday, I'm even more anxious for Thursday. What time is your apt?

    1. Do you already have baby names picked out or discussed? We have a boys name we both really like. And possibly one girl's name. DH is so picky!
    2. If I might ask...how old are you? I'm 25 and DH is 22 (hence why everyone tells us "we're so young and have lots of time, so stop worrying")
    3. What did you do this weekend? I worked all weekend
    4. Do you have any pets? No we don't. We're looking at silver lab puppies when we move back to Michigan and buy a house.

  • Toby102008 If your out this cycle...that would suck! But why go onto IVF vrs a few more attempts at IUI's? Where I am IVF is like 25K so IUI is an ease decision. Plus I would have to drive 10 hours vrs 5 hours between there and back from appointments and things. Bummer for me is that the older I get the more expensive IVF gets. :(

I am sure its really frustrating that people just always use the your young and have time line. People can be so insensitive.

when are you looking at moving back to MI?

Wow! Isthisthereallife that is early! I think the earliest I can get in for a US is 9:15am. Your in my thoughts so much! I hope all goes well this week! Have you had your girl name picked out for a long time? House remodeling can be intense...but you guys seem pretty calm about it. Sounds lovely...new floors are awesome!

fivetimesnoluck Yeah documenting to much just made me totally obsessive and maybe a little to aware. I have been testing out my trigger but no real testing yet. I am also in my mid 30's with a handsome younger Husband. :) Cougars haha Sounds like you have some fun pets to play with at your house.

kristynelson13 did your dr not do a 2nd ultrasound before trigger? FX that you got some biggie follies! That is awesome about buying segways!!!

  • @BecauseLove It's going... I was away for a few days with DH, so I wasn't on the boards much.  I'm trying not to stress.  Had a blood test for progesterone levels on Friday, they said no news is good news, and so far, no news, so that's a good thing.  Beta is Monday, so fingers crossed.  Probably won't be able to resist POAS, asked the nurse at my blood draw and she said as long as I wait til Saturday or Sunday I should be out of the risk window for a false positive.

I'm trying not to read too much into symptoms, because they're all attributable to other things too, especially with the hormone cocktails, and I've had these symptoms before and gotten a BFN, so I'm just trying to go with the flow and wait patiently.

Hope everyone else's wait is going as well as possible

@BecauseLove I always joke that I got him young so I could train him properly! HA! Truth is, he was already pretty amazing when I met him at 22.

@Toby102008 and @Isthisthereallife I am hoping Thursday will be a good day for us all! I go in for my U/S at 9 (EST) and should have a plan for the IUI before I leave. I have to drive to another town about two and a half hours away for the actual procedure, so DH and I will take off work if it's planned for Monday or Tuesday. I typically ovulate on my own, so I can't imagine it being cancelled, but every time I've thought nothing else could go wrong, something has... so, I will just have to wait and see!

  • @BecauseLove Thank you!! We haven't really had it picked out for long, I really liked it but was reluctant to say outloud because it all seemed so "far away". I finally said something to DH about it a couple weeks back and he instantly agreed, which made me smile.

As far as the house, I think it greatly helps that we're out of my moms and at home. But I miss getting a chance to relax. The only room that's mostly finished is our bedroom so we cant even flop of the couch if we're feeling lazy. It's okay though. My DH is great and he's doing such a good job getting everything done.

@BecauseLove you gotta answer the questions too!! Any names?

  • Some fun questions for the group:
    1. Do you already have baby names picked our or discussed? I have a list of names...like super long and awesome (there is also an app out there that you and your SO can swipe at names on your phone and if they overlap they will inform you of a match). My husband things its to early to discuss it...but honestly that sorta thing is more of a distraction to me than trying to not think about things. We together like kinda random names. Mostly I think I will get my way on whatever I choose...though he might put up a bit of a fight...lol maybe.
    2. If I might ask...how old are you? 36 ME (37 is right around the corner) and 31 HIM
    3. What did you do this weekend? We laid low and I did some work on Friday...its always a busy day for me even though I have off. Then Saturday we spent the day together and with family kinda on a road trip. Then Sunday I had some friends come into town that I spent the day with. It was a treat!
    4. Do you have pets? 1 doggie. We adore her...she is my baby!

  • @BecauseLove,  thank you! I was actually surprised they didnt do another u/s before trigger or IUI, but I only had the baseline on CD2 & the other on CD12.
So Im hoping they got big enough. There was about 36 hours between the u/s and the IUI, so fingers crossed!!!! :)

Im going to start testing out my trigger today, just so I know how long it takes to get out of my system, if this round doesnt take.

fx for you as well. Hope everyone gets some good news this month. :)

  • kristynelson13 I don't do a baseline or a CD 12 US so I am likely the odd one. We just do a CD 14ish (Could be the 13 or the 15th) and either I am good or I am not good. If not good then they would dose me up and I would come back for 1 more to either cancel the cycle or move forward with a trigger.

In your case if they see growth at a certain rate I guess they could just predict you would be good by a certain time frame.

I already tested out my trigger. My body process the drugs fast!! BFN since CD 4.

  • @BecauseLove @Isthisthereallife it was a BFN for me once more. DH and I will be taking the rest of the summer 'off' from the drugs and the injections and just HAVE FUN for a while. We've had a pretty stressful summer so far: Besides the $TRE$$ of the failed IUI's, one of our 4 dogs got injured (again) and had to have surgery to repair a torn ACL in his knee. This is the second time he has done this surgery. He did it last summer on his left knee, and now blew out his right knee. He seems to be doing OK thankfully. He will recover fully in 8-10 weeks. In addition to that, we had to say goodbye to our old girl dog, Lexie, who was 15 years old... It was really hard and sad, as I have never done that before. She was so sweet and such a good girl. It was very hard to see my DH so upset.

I think for now, we need to just focus on giving our fur-babies the love, care and attention they deserve, and will likely go back to making future baby plans once the summer is over.

HUGS TO YOU ALL! I hope you all get pregnant sooner than later!
Me: 35 DOR, low AMH = 0.694, and fibroids
    DH: 41
    Married 10/25/2014 / TTC since 05/2015
    1st IUI 05/05/16 Letrozole 7.5 mg CD 3-11 + Ovidrel = BFN
    2nd cycle on Letrozole 7.5 mg CD 3-11 + TI = BFN
3rd cycle on Letrozole but did our 2nd IUI on 07/01/16. 10 mg CD 3-11 + Ovidrel = BFN
Onto IVF! Started Lupron on 09/24. Added Gonal F and hcg injections 09/26...... Trigger 10/07. EggRetrieval 10/09. Starting PIO, Estrace, and Medrol 10/10/16. Transferred 2 "strong/beautiful" embryos 10/14/16. Beta 10/28/16 = 998 mIU/mL = BFP with one baby, but miscarried at 9w5d.
D&C on 12/06/17 and started taking BCPs 01/10/17 for the next IVF Cycle, which officially began stims on 02/18/17.
Fast Forward: we got 4 fertilized embryos from that cycle. Transferred one fresh, but it did not stick, so we have 3 frozen embryos currently. Went in to the fertility clinic in July to talk about a FET of one of those three frozen embryos, but a new fibroid was discovered, and I was not cleared to do the transfer until I had fibroid removal surgery.
08/11/17 had a mini-laparotomy / myomectomy to remove 6 fibroids, largest sized were the size of golf-balls! Once we were cleared to go about our normal lives (sex!) I got pregnant NATURALLY but it was a chemical pregnancy. The very next month we had another BFP and here we are now with a baby on the way! A TOTAL AND COMPLETE MIRACLE!
