Bed Rest Ladies Check-In 7/11

At the suggestion of @AllyTheKid, I thought it would be a good idea to start a weekly check-in for the ladies on bed rest. Feel free to whine, ask questions or just chit chat with other ladies on bed rest!

Re: Bed Rest Ladies Check-In 7/11

  • Bed rest effing sucks! I was put on bed rest at 23 weeks due to funneling. Went to my follow up appointment Friday only to find out that I'm 1cm dialated and 80% effaced...at 26+5.

I'm now hospitalized until further notice. My day consists of 3 NSTs, staring at walls and lurking the internet.

Why are you on bed rest?

What are you doing to entertain yourself?

  • @PCOSbaby Oh no, that is crap!! I hope everything stays stable for you!

I'm on bed rest due to a shortened cervix and some funneling. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and have been on bed rest at home for 3 more. I'll be on bed rest the rest of my pregnancy.

Honestly, I've just been watching Netflix and reading google news and on here. It's so boring and I hate it, especially because I have a 5 year old who my mom is having to take care of during the day.

  • I am on bedrest right now too.. Have been for two weeks now. I am 23 weeks- have placenta previa and had two bleeds at 21 weeks which kept me in the hospital over 4th of July weekend.

i have an appointment today- ultrasound to check on the baby and placenta and an appointment with my OB to figure out where we go from here.

i haven't (knock on wood) has any bleeding since July 1st so I'm hoping maybe I will get off bedrest.

I started participating on this board because my PP is unlikely to move at this point- the placenta is both anterior and posterior- and completely covers my cervix so it's like I will deliver at 37 weeks which puts me around Oct 18th, original due date was Nov 8th.

im finding the weeks to be easier when DS1 is at daycare and my H is at work. I've been able to work from home a bit so that's taking up some time. TV is awful and I can't get into anything and I've been trying to read a bit. If either of you have HBO check out the new show the night of- there is only one episode so far but it's great! Last weekend was really rough and very lonely. So I'm hoping this weekend will be better.

  • Hope you get off bed rest soon! The bleeding sounds so scary! Sorry you had a lovely weekend. I feel pretty lonely during the week when my hubby is gone all day.

  • Day 2 of bedrest for me and I'm already miserable. I hate being dependent on someone else. Contractions are back though, so I'm now back to timing them and trying to literally not move unless I have to go pee. I have a constant backache as well, and I'm not sure what a labor/preterm labor backache feels like to compare it to. I'm hoping it's just from holding two babies and being stuck in bed. My next appointment/ultrasound with the MFM is Thursday so I'm trying to hold out until then to avoid being admitted again. I'm trying to be really in tune with my body but at this point I don't know what is normal and what is labor.
  • @sjo_thetwins when I was in labor with DS1- I had back labor and it was really intense and if I remember correctly it came in waves like regular contractions.

have you tried to move position? Putting a pillow between your legs? I'm finding that my hips are getting extremely sore.

@amye102485 thank you! bleeding was scary cause it was a lot and TMI but there was a lot of blood clots- I was sleeping both times it happened and woke up because I just new something was happening- kinda like when you get your period in the middle of the night. But we knew I had PP so this was something I wasn't expecting but something I knew could happen. Which made it a little easier. But now I am sleeping horribly because I keep thinking I am bleeding.

  • @serenaxo84 thank you! It's more consistent than waves, and changing positions doesn't really help. I am so worried about getting admitted again OR having these babies early, that every ache and pain sends my brain into a frenzy.
  • @sjo_thetwins my mother was on bedrest and in the hospital when she was pregnant with twins. They made it to 35 weeks! Try and stay calm and breath- easier said than done for sure. I feel like the more tense you get- the worse the pain feels. I hope these contractions stop for you- but if you get nervous make sure you call. Being in the hospital sucks for sure- but they can do a little more for you there vs at home.
  • @sjo_thetwins I hate being dependent too! It drives me bananas. I hope you feel better. I'm trying to avoid going back to the hospital too. I spent a lot of nights crying while there.

  • This may sound crazy but when I was home on bed rest I had so much anxiety about preterm labor and other stupid crap like laundry lol

I hated being so dependent on DH for meals and in laws for cleaning and grocery shopping, etc. I would literally find myself sneaking to do laundry because I didn't want my mother in law to wash my progesterone smelling panties! Even though I would wear pantyliners...they still smelled.

Since being here, I'm more relaxed AND I'm constantly monitored for changes. I keep telling myself that I would rather be in the hospital than the baby.

  • @PCOSbaby I felt more comfortable in the hospital, mentally. I didn't have to worry about household chores either. And it's worse when it's in your face at home. I see the stuff that needs done and I can't ask SO to take care of it on top of pretty much getting me all of my meals, etc. it feels nice to get up and shower and take my mind off of things. But the rest of the day I solely think about the mixture of preterm labor and things that I can't do that need done. :(
  • Just wondering what is happening to any of you ladies that work. I have a call today with my employer and I just don't really know my rights. I don't have short term disability because I am an IDIOT and never thought I would need it.
  • I left my appointment with my paperwork stating I could not longer work and took it directly to my director. While there I requested the FMLA paperwork AND and recent copy of the employee handbook.

I wanted the handbook so that I can have a copy of the company's policy in regards to FMLA and disability at the time of me leaving. Check to see how you can use your sick/vacation/personal time.

Tip: Spread out your unused time across several pay periods so that it covers your insurance premium. Otherwise you will have to write a check to your employer for your health insurance.

My MFM OB filled out my FMLA and disability paperwork and I was good to go.

  • @PCOSBABY Thanks! My leave was pretty unexpected! I knew I had placenta previa but wasn't really expecting to have any major issues...and then the bleeding started at 21 weeks and now the bed rest. My company offers short term disability- which I didn't sign up for when I started almost 2 years ago because I just didn't realize that I might need it and I didn't realize how it was such a low cost. Once I found out I was pregnant, I was too late to sign up.

Right now they are using my vacation time to pay me and I've been working a little bit from home so I am hoping they will stretch my vacation time because I have been keeping track of my hours. But after that I have no pay- they will cover my portion of my health insurance which is great. So I won't owe or have to cut a check for that. Long term disability doesn't kick in until 12 weeks of being out. So I might get 2 weeks of some pay if we can keep this baby inside until 37 weeks.

Luckily my maternity leave policy will still go into effect once I have the baby- which is a paid 12 weeks. So at least I don't have to worry about 6 months of no pay.

I am so damn stressed and so damn mad I didn't sign up for short term disability. So now on top of being stressed to the max about this pregnancy, I now get to be stressed about how to pay for daycare and pay for some of my bills both of which we can't afford on just my husband's salary!

  • @serenaxo84 I'm not on bed rest but I'm lurking and I just wanted to say you're not alone. I didn't get short term disability (or long-term) because I didn't know it covered pregnancy and I thought I'd be fine! Now I can't get it anymore =( I kick myself about it every time I think of it.

  • I just got put on bed rest today for what I feel like is no reason... pretty much just because I'm pregnant and work on my feet all day. She just said she would feel better if I wasn't working. One of my twins has severe IUGR, but there is literally no evidence bed rest helps at all. I'm lucky I guess because I'm not facing the issues y'all have with not being able to do anything, as far as I know, it's just work I'm not allowed to do.

I feel a little guilty some of y'all aren't able to get short term disability. My work is extremely flexible when it comes to that. Not something I had to sign up for. But they did change the way they pay for disability earlier this year so I had to jump through some hoops to prove I was pregnant before the change was implemented so I could get a continuation of the previous benefits.
  • @PCOSbaby I hope your ultrasound goes perfectly! I understand the mental breakdown. I made it to 28 weeks yesterday and I'm so happy!

  • @PCOSbaby good luck! I'll be thinking of you! If you don't mind me asking why are you in hospital? I missed some of these check ins!
  • Thanks ladies! I was released yesterday to continue bed rest at home.

I was hospitalized because I started dialating at 26 weeks. Like most of us, my cervix is short and I have funneling. @serenaxo84

Congratulations! It feels good to hit the mark doesn't it! @amye102485
