I've heard from several places now that you can determine the gender of the baby through different types of blood tests, some say as early as 9 weeks. One way to find out is also the same blood test that determines the risk for down syndrom . I'm scheduled to take that test in two weeks, do you think they will also test for gender or do I have to ask? Are any of you all doing this?
Re: Gender?
I'm not personally doing any tests as my pregnancy is low risk and I can get away with minimal interventions.

1. No, this test won't reveal gender. The only way to do that is wait until your child is old enough to tell you their gender. It will, however, tell you the biological sex of the baby.
2. I will be having a blood test performed around week 16 that will determine the chances of spina bifida, trisomy 21, and trisomy 18. I do believe that test will also tell sex as well, but I won't be finding out, as we are team green (though our minds may change on this).

3. The reason that many people do these types of tests are to determine a) if their baby is compatible with life, b) to determine if they need further more invasive tests to give them more details about their child, and c) to prepare themselves for a possible stillbirth or child with special needs. Many women who will take such tests will be women of advanced maternal age or have had a previous chromosomal loss. I feel like it's a bit petty to do a test that's supposed to be about determining baby's health just to determine its sex. (I'm not at all saying that this applies to you, that's just my overall opinion on the matter.)
Edit: grammar
If you are referring to the NT scan and Quad Screening that is typically done at 12 weeks, this does not determine the sex.
Everything that @cjs260 said!
My doctor did tell me that the test I am having done at 10 weeks will determine sex as there are several sex linked disorders that they test for like Turners syndrome.

Update: I got my results today (the 13th business day). The results are normal, and I am having a boy! The doctor's office doesn't know why the lab took so long, but waiting was agony. I just kept calling the doctor's office for updates.
With DS2 the tech never got a very good angle. She was able to tell us boy but we were never really able to tell without her pointing it out.
