    I won't have one until between 18 and 20 weeks. I can't wait!

Are you guys doing the 4D ultrasounds? I had planned to, since a long-time friend owns a little boutique. Since then, I've read several articles cautioning against non-medical ultrasounds. These articles were written by sources that I had expected to be all for any kind of exam. Now, I'm thinking twice and plan to research a bit more.

    ETA articles:  https://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm095508.htm
    https://www.acog.org/Patients/FAQs/Ultrasound-Exams

*The articles don't say something is likely to go wrong. It just says there's not a lot of evidence that it's safe when done outside of a medical center, and some I've read blame ultrasounds for autism. After the vaccination scares, I'm hesitant to believe that part.

@MollyandD - I didn't go anywhere special for my last pregnancy, they did 4D for a few pics for me at the regular ultrasound appojntment.  Can't hurt to just ask the tech if they can do that for you and not go anywhere extra.

ETA--it's gonna be hard to see everyone post these cuz I'm stuck waiting till the end of the first week of August! Ugh!
  • Congrats @kap1988! How exciting to see the heartbeat!
  • I'm seeing these early US pics and wondering how early a heartbeat is detectable. I won't have an US until 8/2 and should be 7w4d at that point. I'm just wondering if I should get my hopes up to see a heart beat... It didn't do me any good in the past to get my hopes up.
  • @conrkm38 - You could be able to see a heartbeat with trabsvaginal ultrasound then.

  • That would be awesome- mine have always been transvag that early.
  • I cant wait for my us im so anxious lol and i want to do 3d/4d cause you can almost see what baby looks like

  • @longliveregina oooh ok that's helpful! I hope they do all of my prenatal as one big bill to insurance. Someone I work with did hers that way so they had the birth completely paid for by the time it came as they just paid a portion at each appointment and I would love to do it that way! I don't want some huge bill looming over me right after I give birth lol
  • @longliveregina I wonder how that works when we are having our babies in a new year?? My insurance renews each Jan 1.
Last time I had better insurance so I didn't have to pay for any prenatal appts just the birth.

For all my appts for my previous pregnancy, I just got a bill for all of them collectively. I left the office each time without owing anything. So there's a good chance for me I'll have 9 months of bills racked up. Maybe I can have them do two separate bills- one for the end of 2016 and one for the end of pregnancy in 2017? Trying to get the most insurance benefits.

  • This is so exciting! We go in on July 27 (currently 4w4d) and I am so nervous and anxious and excited. This is our first, so I am praying we get to hear the tiny heartbeat. Congrats again, everyone!
  • @reibell You'll definitely see it, but hearing it varies from person to person! Fx you'll get to!

Hobestly I have no idea. I had my son in february but since my insurance just rolled over I never thought about it. All I had to worry about as one single copay (since it was all billed at one time), the hospital copay when I was admitted (400) and the difference between what insurance paid and what my practice charged for the delivery (a whopping 147 dollars).

Then the hospital bill arrived a few months later. Egads! Let's just say I will fit tooth and nail to only stay one night this time!! They bill insurance for everything, even if you don't use it.

  • @longliveregina thanks. I already met my out of pocket max for this year (yay gallbladder surgery) so I'm thinking I'll just get hit with the max for everything next year. Yay for dr/hospital bills

Seriously. I was liable for almost 3,000 in room and board. As in a bed and food I didn't eat. Redonkulous.

  • @irishrose54 congrats! How far along are you to hear baby's heartbeat?

  • @Sugargirl1019 the dr said six weeks and change and by my estimation it was 6w3days. It was hard to hear - I had to hold my breath so she could angle it just right but it was there and super neat to hear!
