Question for breastfeeding moms

How are you holding your baby? I know it sounds silly but my LO is just getting so long where holding him in the cradle is no longer optimal. So he ends up just sitting up in my lap which hurts my boobs. What are some other positions I can use to feed him?

Re: Question for breastfeeding moms

  • Side laying is really comfy. Or else I kind of sit him on my thigh and he'll turn towards my breast.

  • I do reverse madonna. Still cradle, but it supports his back so he doesn't sag.

I mostly sit LO on my lap then when she is latched on I lean back on the sofa so she is resting on my tummy. It's comfy. I cross my legs so one of my legs supports her back.
  • I've been struggling with this as well. Glad to get some suggestions
  • I have a pretty big boy(he's been wearing 12 months for a couple weeks now) and I feed him in a modified cradle. I put one leg up as if I'm sitting cross-legged, rest my arm on my leg, sit him sideways on my lap and just lean him back. I do have to turn a little towards him but it works.
  • We have always done the cradle hold. It works really well for us. But I know once he gets bigger than we might have to have him sit up and lean in to eat.
  • I don't hold my LO. I have a regular bed pillow that I lay on my lap and she lays on that, and then I hold my boob with my hand. If I don't hold it, she has trouble latching or her latch slips and it's uncomfortable.

That's almost exactly what we do. I will put my hand behind his back to support him, but he doesn't always need it.

  • I use the football hold mostly with a nursing pillow for support. My LO is a shorty, so it works very well for us.
