Re: BTDT check in 7/14

  • How is it already MID JULY? Some mysterious time warp, I tell ya

How far along are you? 32 weeks plus a few days, measuring a couple weeks ahead (by ultrasound and fundal height)

How are you feeling? Pretty amazing. I think my iron supplements are helping decrease the restless legs, so that's making my evenings a lot more enjoyable

How many children do you have/ages? 1 son, 19 months

What team are you? Blue again!

Amy rants/raves about your older children this week? He's transitioning to the toddler room at daycare (typically closer to 2 years+). I think the stimulation is really good for him, but he is EXHAUSTED. They also have just 1 permanent teacher right now and subs going in and out all day (the other permanent teacher starts next week.. I kinda wish they had held off on transitioning him until then). So he's been really clingy/exhausted/sad while there - the room also naps at 12:15, and he's used to napping around 10:30, so a 2 hour push is a LOT on his little body.  Anyway, he's so happy and wonderful at home, it breaks my hear to hear him crying when I pick him up at daycare, giving it until the end of this week, and perhaps all of next week with the new teacher before I intervene and try to figure out something else for him.

    Questions? Nada

GTKY: What qualities (personality or features or whatever you think of) does your older child have that you hope this LO does or doesn't have?
HAVE: Extremely social, I am told on a daily basis that his smile "lights up a room", from just a couple months old he has been the one to try to make other people smile - just an absolute goofball/ham.  He also LOVES music, he sings songs all day long and can't help but get up and dance at any little tune he hears playing.
DOESN'T HAVE: He's always been a bit possessive of toys. Some of his buddies are totally cool with each other grabbing toys and don't react.. E will often scream/cry if a friend takes away a toy.. then say "MINE MINE!" and eventually, sometimes, nibble their arm to get it back. HA! Hoping that having 2 kiddos at home will give me more opportunity to intervene in these situations since it's something that only happens at daycare now.
I also really want the boys to look completely different. Emmett is the cutest child ever (I'm 100% biased), but would love to have 1 with dark hair/eyes (E) and this one to be blond and light eyes, etc... just for fun.  Though little look-alikes would be damn cute too.

Anyone still reading?  Yikes. I'll stop.

  • How far along are you!
29 weeks! Excited for 30, I feel like you're impressively pregnant at 30. No idea what that means.

    How are you feeling?
Good! No longer want to bend over. There's a dirty plastic spoon on my office floor right now because I missed the trash can and just...no.

How many children do you have/ages?
1 DD, 22 months next week!

    What team are you?
    Pink!

Amy rants/raves about your older children this week?
She's been really sweet and giving hugs and kisses galore. She's doing well with not having her mimi (paci) at daycare besides her nap. However, she's been waking up at least once every night for about a week and a half :(

    Questions?
    I don't think so!

GTKY: What qualities (personality or features or whatever you think of) does your older child have that you hope this LO does or doesn't have?
i hope she at least sleeps as well as DD1. She was by no means a great sleeper, she was up every 2 hours to eat for a whole year, but she would fall right back to sleep when she was done nursing, so I can handle that. I also hope she has beautiful eyes like DD1. Her eyes are SO blue. They're gorgeous and such a pretty shape. Really, any qualities of DD1 would be great, she's a great kid. But maybe no biting though. The biting and hitting can be left out. It's so weird to picture what she will look like because I can't imagine her looking any different from DD1.
  • @MrsVoorhees - my hope is that future Mr. Cooper will bite Emmett, and Emmett will bite him back.. and thus the phase will end a lot quicker. Or even that Emmett will scream or do something that's a big enough reaction to kick the habit to the curb.

    Honestly, whatever it takes!!!

How are you feeling? Pretty good! My only complaint is my usual... bad hip pain at night.

How many children do you have/ages? 1 daughter, 22 months exactly today

What team are you? Team Pink!

Amy rants/raves about your older children this week? She's learned how to climb on her toy box. Well, I guess better put, she's started climbing on her toy box. We have a large window opening between the kitchen and livingroom, and the toy box is right in front of it. This morning I was getting my breakfast when McKenna's head popped up in the window. She told me hi, then grabbed her paci off the ledge, where I had it put up. It was simultaneously frustrating, hilarious, and adorable.

    Questions? None

GTKY: What qualities (personality or features or whatever you think of) does your older child have that you hope this LO does or doesn't have?

Features- DD1 has DH's eyes. Hoping DD2 does as well. Their eyes are so pretty... big with long, thick lashes. Also, hoping DD2 gets my dimples like DD1 did (okay, DD1 only has one dimple, but close enough).

Personality- Obviously I want DD2 to have her own personality, but I'd be happy if she had any of McKenna's personality traits. She's social, fearless, and independent. She's always been a generally happy baby/toddler. Typically a good sleeper and eater. All the things that make me convinced that we'll never get that lucky twice, and this baby will give us a huge run for our money.

  • @MrsVoorhees I'm having trouble visualizing my girls looking any different than one another as well. I know she likely won't come out as McKenna's spitting image, but I can't imagine her looking any different way right now. And seeing McKenna's old clothes in her closet just reinforces she'll look just like her in my mind.

We got a puppy right around the same time LO started biting.  Playfully the puppy would nip at LO with her tiny puppy teeth and LO would cry and scream "no! no biting!" Thus our biting problem was abruptly ended!  But then it turned into spitting...  :s:D

  • How far along are you! 33 weeks tmrw!

How are you feeling? Anxious! I know I will be induced early so im maybe a month, 5 weeks away? Omg, omg, omg...

How many children do you have/ages? 1 son 26months

What team are you? Blue all the way!

Amy rants/raves about your older children this week? He has entered the "terrible twos" and has started having his own little opinion of things.  No seems to be his new favorite word, esp around bed/bath time.  He's also developed this new love of drinking from a cup, any cup, be if water, coffee, tea, whatever he can get his hands on.  Then as soon as he takes a sip or two he dumps the rest on the floor or runs around with it until is spills everywhere.  At least we have 3 dogs that are usually right behind him ready to lap up anything he drops/spills.

Questions? Have you guys started shopping baby carriers yet?  I just bought an Ergo from a FB garage sale for $25 but I've also heard Tulas are pretty awesome, but so expensive.  I imagine i'll be wearing this baby a lot more than my first since my hands will be extra full.

GTKY: What qualities (personality or features or whatever you think of) does your older child have that you hope this LO does or doesn't have?  LO1 is incredibly smart, if I do say so  :D ... and also very independant.  He plays really well by himself and also with others and soaks up new info/knowledge like a sponge!  People are always commenting on how well he speaks and quickly he learns and uses in context new words and phrases.  He can even count and say the alphabet in english and spanish! Of course he gets this all from my incredibly smart husband, so maybe baby 2 will be more like me! Haha! For the 'doesnt have' category I would say LO has never been a good sleeper or eater.  He eats like a bird and only has about 10-12 foods he will eat.  Everything else gets dropped and pushed away and is food for the pups. Which makes it really hard to buy the good wholesome, organic, high quality foods I want him to eat since half or more becomes dog food:disappointed:

How many children do you have/ages?  DS is 20 months

Amy rants/raves about your older children this week?  My son is refusing his high chair.  So now were are debating about what to do...

Questions?  What have you guys used for meals at this early toddler age?  A booster seat?  Any recommendations?  I was trying to see if I could find a taller chair, but they are hard to find and pricey.

I like this one but I am not spening that much money: https://www.albeebaby.com/stokke-steps-chair-natural.html?utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=shoppingdotcom&gdftrk=gdfV21377_a_7c623_a_7c12148_a_7c349701&gclid=CJjkgdzD880CFZY1aQodvm0PRA

I am trying to convince DH that this would work: https://www.youthchairstore.com/Product/youth-chairs/whitewood-industries-youth-chair/3862

GTKY: What qualities (personality or features or whatever you think of) does your older child have that you hope this LO does or doesn't have?   Sleep habits!  DS is a great sleeper (he gets it from his mom).  Hopefully this kid will be just as wonderful.

  • How far along are you! 30 Weeks 5 days

How are you feeling?  Meh... It's excessively hot this week and I want nothing to do with being pregnant while enduring the heat.  Still living with the heartburn and I've started sleeping in the recliner which is surprisingly more comfortable than our bed.

How many children do you have/ages?  Two boys; ages 6 and 4

What team are you? Team Pink!

Amy rants/raves about your older children this week?  My 6 year old continues to be overly sensitive about the littlest things and it's to the point where I just can't even deal with it anymore.  He is a very sore loser and I am constantly finding myself removing him from the activity and having the "you don't win everything" conversation with him.  Our youngest is actually really matured (or so I think) over the last couple weeks so I give him major credit and love for that.

    Questions?

GTKY: What qualities (personality or features or whatever you think of) does your older child have that you hope this LO does or doesn't have?  I really hope she is like our boys and has DH magical blue eyes.  DS1 is such a goof troop and was actually crowned the class clown at his kindergarten graduation.  Proud mom moment, I tell ya!  He does great in school and is actually a top reader in his class.  So I want her to have his sense of humor and his thirst for knowledge.  DS2 has difficultly with some things given he is autistic and is behind the curve but I hope she get his memory.  It astounds me with the amount of stuff he remembers.  I also hope she gain his fearlessness and free spirit.

  • @marajay6 We have a space saver high chair, and still use it. It works just as well as a booster seat. I'm not sure what we would do if she stopped going in that, though.

  • @marajay6 - my son is only 19 months, sometimes he demands he is done with dinner after just a couple minutes in his chair. We let him down and remain sitting at the table (even if we weren't eating). He usually wants to get back up, or sit in one of our laps when he realizes we aren't just going to go play with him. Then he USUALLY lets us put him back into the chair.  We have 2 high chairs that both attach to regular dining room tables and serve as booster if you don't attach the trays.  Sometimes pulling that right up to the table works well.

  • @marajay6 we went through a phase like that too.  Does your highchair have a buckle in it?  We strapped him in bc he kept trying to stand up and that seemed to help a little, but he would still whine.  Recently he's been sitting on one of our barstools pushed up next to the counter so he can wiggle too much or get down w/o help.  Also, if you remove the tray part of your current high chair, you could use just the chair pushed up to the counter or table?

  • @izzetoot @AnnaS930 @camichael84  - Thanks forthe tips!

We thought about removing the tray and pushing his high chair right up to the table, but it is too tall for our table. He does ok on our laps when he fights the high chair, but it then gets either me or my husband messy. He mostly does well in the booster seat (pushed to table, without tray) my parents have at their house.  But they have some nice wide dining chairs the booster sits on - I worry it won't sit too well on our chairs. I also think he would be happiest with a seat he can get in and out of himself. He has a child size table and chairs, but for meals, he wants all of us at the same table. We have given him a snack at his little table and he insists that we sit on the little chairs ourselves. My husband will humor him and do it (he mostly squats over the chair to limit the weight on it).

  • Damn, @marajay6 - a tiny table and chair was my other thought until he's ready to rejoin you at the table.. but not so much if it means you guys are hunched over on tiny chairs.

    We have this from Target..

Can use a tray or push up to table, it sits on a chair and is really quite narrow.  The little legs on the bottom have 3 settings, this is the highest, or they fold completely and child is at chair level.  The arms are pretty low and might fit under your table?  We like it because it travels easily if we're going to a restaurant or in-laws without boosters and it was only $30

  • @marajay6 I was going to suggest a tiny table too. DD was so happy when we got her one. I didn't realize but when she moved to the toddler room at daycare, she started eating at a table like that so then she hated the high chair.
