Apologies if this has already been discussed to some extent, but I am desperate to hear other people's experience with this drug. I started taking this yesterday when vomiting hit me like a truck. Im not throwing up today but I am so drowsy that I've slept the whole morning. I need to go back to work tomorrow- how?!?

In your experience, does the drowsiness improve? Should I be taking 1 instead of 2 at night? Should I skip the morning dose?

This sucks!

I take the OTC version (mostly because I'm cheap).

Each pill of diclegis is 10mg of doxyalamine succinate (just under a half dose of a sleeping pill/anithistamine) and 10mg of B6 and it's 5-7 hours delayed release, which means you have a sleeping pill that takes effect shortly before you wake up. No wonder you're sleepy.

The drowsiness gets better IME after a few days. I'd try a single pill at night. Skipping the morning pill will help if you have notable afternoon sleepiness. Splitting the evening dose into an afternoon pill and an evening pill (so part of the sedative effect hits at bedtime) might help too.

My answer was coffee. While I adjusted, I had my 200mg of caffeine every morning to help me break out of the dozy-belt, then tapered it back off.

My experience was similar- the first day after I took the two pills at bedtime I wasn't sure that I'd be able to keep taking it but the 2nd day was better and the 3rd was even slightly better. I would (and I personally did) give it another couple of days before you try changing anything.

The fist few days I was on it I was very sleepy, but it has seem to get better now. I take 2 at night and 2 in the morning. I'm still exhausted most of the time and I'm not sure if that is from the pills or just from being pregnant but I'm at least not falling asleep at my desk anymore.

Yes! It honestly took me about a week to fully adjust on Diclegis, but I take all 4 pills each day. The drowsiness is there but it is a miracle worker in comparison to how sick and awful I was feeling beforehand! Is there a way to discuss it with your boss at all to schedule an afternoon break of sorts or adjust your schedule at all? Definitely make sure you are getting as much sleep at night as you can, and maybe try taking your dose a little earlier, if possible! I found that if I took it too late, it became nearly impossible to move in the morning!

These are all good suggestions. Thanks ladies. If I need to wake up around 7am, when you would you take the nighttime 2 pills?

I would suggest maybe an hour after you eat dinner so you're on an empty stomach like it's recommended, but then if you have a snack before bed you're not having to wait until later to take it and push it too far in the evening for you to be drowsy the next day.

It took me a few days to adjust, but now i just feel pregnancy tired. It's worked really well for me though! I feel like a new human.

It took me a few days to adjust. I was completely not functional the first day, but after a week I'm able to drag myself out of bed at 7:30. I still throw up about once a day, so I can't say that in completely cured. Just more sleepy and less pukey.

The nurse practitioner thinks I have food poisoning and not severe morning sickness! I've never been so happy to hear think I have food poisoning! I would so happy if this nightmare is over soon!

It takes me about a week to adjust to the diclectin. I have to take the full dose amount otherwise the morning sickness will return. I had to start last week since the all day nausea was becoming unbearable. Thankfully I had a 4 day weekend and DH was around so I could sleep away most of the mornings and he could play with DD.

I started taking this 3 days ago
Im still nauseas all day but I'm only throwing up 2 or 3 times a day now. Will my body adjust to stop feeling nauseas

@lj1846 Are you taking just 2 at night or 2 at night, 1 in the morning, and 1 in the afternoon? I've been on it for about 2.5 weeks now and have found that I have good days where I feel pretty normal most of the day and I have bad days where I still feel nauseated most of the day and will throw up (but usually only once now). On my bad days (which are still not that bad compared to a lot of people), I've found certain things help give me a little relief that didn't do anything for me before I started the Diclegis (like the pink stork tea, sour foods, ginger).

It's supposed to be most effective after it's had time to build up in your system (taking it at the same time everyday is important for this reason), and the phrasing you used makes me think what you're experiencing right now is at least some improvement, so I'd think after another 2-3 days you'll be at the max efficiency of whatever it's going to do for you. If you're not already at the 4 pills per day, I would probably go ahead and bump up to it and if you are, I'd give it another 2-3 days and call the Dr to see if there's anything else they can try to get you some more relief.

Thanks for the info.. it is definitely an improvement ..i was sick 8-10 times a day.
I am taking it 4 times a day..i guess i was just hoping for a couple hours nausea free!

Took me about a week to adjust. It's worth it though. I was so nauseous all day long. I take two at night, one in the morning, one mid day. I was finding I would start to get really sick halfway through my workday so my fertility specialist suggested the mid day tab and it helped a lot. I'm pretty tired all the time but it could just be pregnancy. My biggest issue is the struggle to get out of bed in the morning!

I'm finally adjusting after a week of taking the pills. But crap, I am so nauseous in the afternoon! I guess I am going to have to take the morning pill now instead of just the 2 at night

@BirthdaySurprise17 I've had to start taking the morning pill also. The afternoons are still rough, but that is consistently my worst time every day.

Afternoons are my worst too. I might try diclegis and zofran today for the afternoon and see how that combo works...
