Re: Who's building nursery furniture?

  • None of it is really that hard. Most of the time it's maybe a screwdriver and/or an allen wrench.

  • I voted "what's nursery furniture" as my husband is building a bunk bed for our two older girls.  They're also getting a new dresser each.

Nursery has been complete since Kid1.

  • My husband only has to reassemble a crib we are getting.  Everything else came put together.

  • We still haven't decided if we're buying this LO her own set of furniture or passing down DDs. If we end up buying anything that requires assembly then DH will definitely do it because he has way more patience.
  • I'm on the fence about DS's furniture being passed on to baby. He's only one so he's still using his crib as a crib. I figure baby won't need the crib until late February/early March so maybe someone can give DS a big boy bed for Christmas. My priority is another dresser. It's important for their furniture to match too since they will be sharing a room for awhile.

With DS, I bought all of his furniture from IKEA so assembly was required. In fact, during that same trip I bought my dining room set and living room tables and DS's high chair. I had fun being 9 months pregnant putting furniture together, but that stuff is right up my alley. If I had been allowed I would've done a lot more!
  • We have all the nursery stuff we need from kid1, but I kinda like assembling IKEA furniture. We just bought a bunch of storage pieces for our utility room from there this weekend and I put together one of them already...probably in a few hours? DH will probably do the rest since he's faster, but I'm better at reading/following directions.

Before DD was born, I put together her crib and my dad was so nervous about it he asked DH to double check my assembly...he has low confidence in my craftsmanship abilities, lol.
  • My husband made our crib from an old Pecan tree that fell and all other big furniture items were refurbished so they were all ready built.

  • I put together the crib by myself last time. DD still sleeps in it. I'm not sure if we will get a new one.

    DD: 8/20/14; DS: 11/13/16; DD: 5/3/19; DD: 8/31/21; Baby #5 (team green) due 3/24/24

  • My mom ordered the crib and dresser with "white glove delivery" so they will put it together. I actually love putting together ikea furniture but think I'd be a little too worried to do it for my kid (my desk at work was no problem though). SO is not handy at all so my dad will come over to fix up a few things for the nursery once the roommate moves out.
  • my H will most likely put together the crib, but I will help if needed.  The changing table is being handed down and we are going to repurpose an armoire to make a "closet."

  • We just put our crib together last night. Ours came from pottery barn kids and it was very easy to assemble. Probably only 16 screws total. I noticed each screw had patchlock, which is like a little dab of loctite to prevent screws from backing out. That made me feel a bit better because I know those suckers aren't going anywhere.

For the dresser, we ordered the delivery and setup because we didn't have a choice.
