Newborns - changing in the middle of the night

We have a bassinet where DS will be sleeping in our room for the first few weeks/months.  Where do you change your DC diaper when s/he is still sleeping in your room?  Do you walk into his/her room to change the diaper?  Or do you have a set up in your room?  What's the set up?

Re: Newborns - changing in the middle of the night

  • We take them out to the living room because they scream and we take turns sleeping through feedings and changes.

  • We have a Pack-N-Play with the changing table in our bedroom (still there even though she's been in her crib for 2 weeks now).  9 times out of 10, I still change her on my bed, if we are hanging out in the bedroom.  The changing attachment is literally 2 feet away from the edge of the bed.  Oh, and her bedroom is right next to ours. We change her in her room everytime except when in our bedroom.

  • we brought him into the nursery- b/c he'd usually cry when changed - so at least one of us could keep sleeping.  He also got fed in there.... only slept in our room in the bedside cosleeper bassinet.
  • I nurse Brighton in bed so I change him in bed. Our cradle is right next to the bed.  I keep a little basket on my nightstand with everything I need. I do as LITTLE work as possible in the middle of the night.Big Smile

I keep the remote right by my head so I can just turn the TV on for light to nurse and change.  Then DH doesn't wake up and neither does Bright.

Sounds crazy I know but he just makes little fussing noises and never actually wakes up to eat!  But if I turn the light on he does and has a harder time going back to sleep.

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Ditto exactly.  Plus we liked to feed her in her glider, which is in her nursery.

  • We take all the necessary supplies to bed with us and just lay a waterproof pad on the bed to change him.

  • When our DS was a newborn and in our room we just used the bed

  • Our PNP has a changing station attached so I just use that.

  • For the first three weeks, Reagan slept in a cosleeper in our room.  We had the changing pad and all of her supplies set up on our dresser.  Around 3 weeks we moved her to her crib and obviously we moved the changing pad and supplies back in there.  We also had a night light in our room (and now one in her room) so we wouldn't have to turn on the light.

  • We cleared off the top of a lower dresser and set up his changing pad there.  We also have his diapers, wipes and hand sanitizer there as well.  It's a pretty nice set up for us.

  • I used to take her downstairs as not to wake DH, but then I got lazy and just changed her in bed.  I get a lot more sleep now.

  • The changing pad is on top of our long dresser.  We just keep the TV on for light -- if it's poopy we turn on the bathroom light and it's enough to see what you are doing without fully waking the babies.
