I think this will vary widely by region. I went to this because it was free and thought it was pretty useless, but that may just be because of the pediatrician who spoke at mine didn't really give any useful information. I decided just to let it go and not take another class. If I have issues with BF postpartum then I'll touch base with a lactation consultant at that time.
I think it's worth it to go if the time works for you because why not - it's free.
I went to it with DD1.... If I remember correctly it was pretty basic, but I did win a Boppy Pillow!! I got more hands on info in the hospital when DD was born, much easier to have an actual baby trying and someone showing you then just talking about it.
BFP: 12/3/15 EDD: 8/11/16 IT'S A BOY!!! MAXIMUS POWERS 8♥5♥16
Honestly the babies r us events are worth it just for the free stuff. DH went to the CPR course one and said the instructor was terrible, but we've had fun at some of the others! I haven't done the breast feeding one though...
They usually give you a welcome bag with samples at events, coupons and do giveaways. They mentioned to us they try to have a raffle prize for everyone at the smaller events, even if it's something like a bottle brush. We've won some high ticket items - an Ubbi diaper pail, a Tiny Love bassinet, and a britax car kit (window shade, seat saver and organizer)
DH and I just went to one this weekend. One of the nurses from the hospital I am delivering at taught the class. We really enjoyed it. Lots of info, showed us items and watched videos. It was free, so totally worth it.
