For those of you who have purchased an IKEA dresser for your baby's room, please read this:
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/about_ikea/newsitem/062816-recall-chest-and-dressersAnd this:
https://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2016/IKEA-Recalls-29-Million-MALM-and-Other-Models-of-Chests-and-Dressers/The best bet is to procure and use one of their anchoring kits for pretty much any dresser they sell. (You can ask them to send you as many kits as you want free of charge on their website.) If you are unable, unwilling, or uncomfortable doing that, they will offer you a refund. There is a
LONG LIST of recalled dressers, it's not just the MALM series.
Even if you didn't purchase an IKEA dresser, consider anchoring your dressers, bookcases, high furniture, and television sets to the wall securely to prevent injury or death for your little one. Many dressers produced today, including those manufactured under nursery furniture brands, pose tipping hazards.
****Note that the popular 8-drawer HEMNES dresser is still being sold, and does not appear to be a part of this recall, but they recommend using an anchor kit to secure it to the wall just the same.

@UponAStar16 You'd be surprised how little weight it takes to turn a dresser over. All you have to do is pull out a few drawers and put weight on them and it loses the center of gravity and overturns. That's how these things happen--the kids pull out the bottom drawers, stand on them, reach up and pull out the upper drawers and go to pull themselves up, and over the whole thing goes. I would anchor anything just to be safe. My husband has a MALM dresser in our bedroom and we are anchoring that sucker before the baby is even born. I'm also going to test my 300 lb solid cherry dressers to make sure I can't overturn them--we may also be anchoring them depending on the result. I would rather be safe than sorry.

And everyone, make sure you use a stud in the wall to secure furniture. I know of someone that just bolted their furniture into the drywall and a piece of furniture still fell over.

I have an 8 ft tall book shelf in my living room and it's definitely not secure. I'm wondering what to do with it. Do you guys think it's safe to mount it to the wall or should I just get rid of it and put my books in storage?
