Intro - TTC #1 at 38 (going on 39)

Hello! artemis618 here (mostly the same as posted in the main intro thread). DH (41) and I (38, will be 39 in October) just got married three weeks ago on 6/18/16 (dated almost a year then had a six month engagement). First marriage and no kids for either of us...yet. First time ttc - first cycle should have been during honeymoon, but who knows what happened between wedding stress and international travel involving a 17 hour time difference. All of this is totally new. I suppose I'll have to start temping and paying more attention. We're also starting to shop for a house now (need a yard for any fur babies).

I'm a financial analyst by day but enjoy dancing, skiing, flying (though it's been a while with the wedding), and (warm water on vacation only) diving. FH works in business development and enjoys running, cycling, reading, golfing, and generally learning things and being outdoors.

I was quite single when I turned 35 so had a few (only 9 :-/) eggs frozen the following month (I first looked into it when I turned 30, but was optimistic...I suspect not the greatest quality eggs at 35 as compared to if the technology/funds were available and had it occurred to me to do it at 25). So I have basically been through the first half of IVF. After getting engaged this past December, I called my RE in January (didn't know if the several months between then and wedding would make a difference - but I selfishly didn't really want to be very pregnant on my wedding day/honeymoon) who said to try naturally for six months (that the eggsicles are really last resort) and to call him if we're not pregnant by year-end. So that's where we're at.

Congrats and welcome. You have a backup plan but who's to say it won't work the old fashioned way (with a little help from temping, charting and OPKs - try these too, they require very little effort and help you really confirm ovulation)? Your eggs are probably fine. You can get a screening test (simple blood test) or a diagnostic test (CVS or amniocentesis) if you are worried about genetic abnormalities of the fetus. Feel free to ask questions, I learned pretty much everything I know about fertility through this board a few years ago. It's now less active (long story) but I suspect you will find some fantastic advice here nonetheless.

TW (loss mentioned): And...I'm back - or rather I will be as soon as I cycle. The good news is that at least we appear to be able to get pregnant, though I'll be 39 on Monday. Anxious to try again, but must be patient...

We actually closed on that house for which we were shopping this past Friday then (TW goes here) lost our little girl (just found out she was a she from our deceptively positive NIPT results two days prior) on Saturday at 11w5d

. We'd only heard the heartbeat (I think was ~160) at our first appointment at 8w2d previously. This was our first pregnancy, and while definitely crushing we always knew it was an unfortunate possibility.

So...onward (hopefully soon)! I guess as a woefully inadequate consolation I'll be able to dive and eat poke when we go to Maui later this month (but of course I'd much rather be knocked up). Still super grateful for all of the information on here!

sorry for your loss @artemis618 - you seem to have a great attitude about it. I'm pretty new here and on my 5th cycle. Just started temping. I'm trying to patiently wait for something to happen.

@vlagrl29 I admit the hormones have me kind of up and down, but DH is also super positive so that helps

I'm a big believer in temping and the OPKs (both of which I learned about on here!) as we basically got pregnant our first cycle doing both (my thermometer actually came in the mail on CD2 so I started tracking from CD3) in July. I was so proud of my first chart just cause it reflected my disciplined effort of waking up at 5:45 every morning to record my temp (plus it "worked" to boot). Re-activated my FF account but not sure what to expect from this first cycle. Hopefully back to normal soon!

@Artemis0685 - I wasn't going to temp but after I found out we only have 6 months of TTC before we need fertility testing I kinda freaked out. I'm hoping this is our month. I got DH on a multivitamin and maca root. I'm temping and start opk testing on CD 11. Hope you stay is short here as well
