Baby Names

Julianne Mae? Any other ideas?

So, we are almost (but not quite set) on Julianne.  I am trying to figure out how to honor anyone in my side of the family, since Dh's family names are used in our other two children.  How does Julianne Mae sound?  Eleanor Mae is another name I really like if we decide not to use Julianne.  Any opinions please? positive or negative.

Female family names on my side are:
Helen Catherine (Catherine is already used by two other nieces)
Mary Catherine
Dorothy Mae
Eunice Mae
Amanda
Ada Catherine
Suzanne
My TTC History:

2012: Baby #1
2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)

Re: Julianne Mae? Any other ideas?

  • Eleanor is one of my favorite names, and it was on my short list for DS, if he had been a girl.  You may hear a lot of people call her "Ellie Mae" which could either be cute or very "hayseed-y."

I like Eleanor better than all your other choices, but here's what I think about them:

Helen Catherine (Catherine is already used by two other nieces)  -- Nice name.  If the nieces are not too close in age and their parents won't take offense, I wouldn't give a side-eye to using a cousin's name as a mn for my child.  My nephew's middle name is my son's first name.  While I didn't specifically name my son after my nephew, and I did clear this with my BIL and SIL, they were honored and it is a nice connection between cousins who are 12 years apart in age.

Mary Catherine -- This name screams "nun" to me -- it's very Catholic sounding.  If you're Catholic, that's probably a plus.  If you're not and and the idea of people assuming your DD is Catholic would bother you, I'd think twice about this one.

    Dorothy Mae -- Cute!

Eunice Mae -- I like the "old lady" name trend, but Eunice with Mae is just too much.

Amanda -- Love it. Good with Catherine as a middle name.

Ada Catherine -- Love it.  Less over the top than Eunice Mae.

Suzanne -- Have never loved this name.  Too plain.
