I'm currently reading "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and I find it to be very interesting! I don't know if this LO will be colicky, but I'm glad I'm learning some tools to help if she or he is a colicky baby. Plus I think the concept of the "missing 4th trimester" is incredibly fascinating and like the way it's explained in the book.

- What birth related books are you reading/do you suggest?
I'm waiting to get Ina May's Guide to Breastfeeding, I just read her book on childbirth. I've been through this before, but it was nice to get a med-free perspective in case I end up going that way this time. Get It Out was an interesting book on the history of childbirth.

- What parenting books are you reading/do you suggest?
No helpful new suggestions, I'm waiting for a Janet Lansbury book from the library.

- What NBR books are you reading/do you suggest?
Just finished Marrow Island, it was pretty good and really weird. I recommend The Book of Speculation. Am hopefully going to start these soon: Homegoing, Sweetbitter, Before the Fall, and Rich & Pretty. My TBR list is waaaay too long at this point. I had to take a break from baby books and read some fiction, hence the long list. (ETA: NBR can include fiction books right? Here's my anxiety popping through

)

I'm considering re-reading Happiest Baby on the Block - it's the only baby book I read last time (not even sure I finished it) but I really liked it. The 5 S's gave me a good place to start from when Emmett was upset.. they were often productive and even when not, gave me something to try so I didn't feel helpless.

Haven't read any parenting books, but maybe will check some out from the library

Not currently reading any non-baby books either - Recently finished the Pines trilogy based on suggestions here, it wasn't fantastic writing but the storyline was entertaining enough.

@PSUBecky23 I think you were the one that recommended her on here, that's the only reason I've heard of her!

There are quite a few scary parenting discipline books out there. I already checked out the book once from the library, but only got to read one chapter before I had to take it back. Even that one chapter was amazing, I got a nice little speech to try with dd when she's being crazy and she's responded so well to it! I didn't know she had a blog too *runs off to find it*

I recommmend all of the '411' books - Expecting, Baby, Toddlers. By Michele Hakakha and Ari Brown. They're great Q&A style books that I've referenced countless times in the last 6+ years.

NBR - I've been trying to get through Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, but it's just not keeping my interest. I'm trying to push through because I've only got about 30% left to go, but I might abandon it come vacation in 2 weeks if I haven't finished before then. I want to read the new Mary Kay Andrews (The Weekenders) while I'm away because she always writes great beach reads.

I read Happiest Baby on the Block and enjoyed it.

Strongly recommend Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.

I am currently reading Hypnobirthing.

My next book will be Childbirth Without Fear.

I'm reading Bringing Up Bebe. It's about an American woman raising her daughter in France and learning all about how the French raise their children. It's very interesting and apparently pretty controversial. I'm taking it with a grain of salt but some of the theories as to why French children are so well behaved is intriguing to me.

No suggestions on birthing or parenting books, but NBR: I just bought "Eligible" by Curtis Sittenfeld. It's a modern day telling of "Pride and Prejudice". I love Jane Austen, and this came by recommendation from an employee at Barnes and Noble. I haven't started it yet, but I'm excited about it. I'm also still making my way through Amy Poehler's book. It's funny and I'm really enjoying it, but I'm kind of reading it in spurts.

Making my way through Hypnobirthing and hoping to have time to re-read Ina Mae's Guide to Childbirth. But I rarely read like I used to. I'm just so freaking tired when I get into bed.

Janet Lansbury's blog all the way. She has amazing insight on how to be a respectful parent.

Just read the last Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling) book during my recent beach weekend.

I'm working my way through the hypnobirthing book too and have The happiest baby on the block on my nightstand as a coaster right now lol you ladies inspired me to open it up tonight though!

I'm not reading any baby books and am making my way through "Finders Keepers" by Stephen King. My husband bought it for me to read when I had those bad muscle spasms a few weeks ago and couldn't leave the recliner. I got about 100 pages in before realizing that it's technically a sequel to "Mr. Mercedes," which I haven't read yet. Whoops. It still works well as a stand-alone book though.

As far as baby books go..I'm reading the Contended Little Baby by Gina Ford. She lays out a VERY strict schedule for mom/dad and baby starting at week one! Some of the things she says like not looking in your baby's eyes if they happen to wake up in the middle of the night freak me (and my husband) out, but I do really like the idea of trying to have a schedule...even if ours ends up different than the one she says you *must* have.

NBR- I just finished "Big Little Lies" by Liane Moriarty which is the perfect beach read. Now I'm on to "The Girls" by Emma Cline which is a very close fictional story around the Charles Manson girls. So far I am really enjoying it and can't wait to get some down time this weekend to really get into it.

ETA: spelling is hard!

I liked "Little Big Lies"! It took me a minute to get into it, but then I got sucked in and couldn't put it down.

I'm a fiendish book reader, but I haven't actually started reading any baby books just yet. I'm going to look into Ina May's birthing book and also anything to do with hypnobirthing but I haven't picked up anything just yet.

To be honest, I find parenting books extraordinarily frustrating so I don't think I'll be reading too many of those.

Currently I'm reading "The View From The Cheap Seats" by Neil Gaiman. I'm also in the middle of "The Dream Thieves" by Maggie Steifvader. I was reading "Alias Hook", a Peter Pan retelling focused on Captain Hook's story specifically, but it was a bit dry and predictable. Don't know if I'll go back to it or not.

I'm not reading this right now, but I would recommend "Happiest Baby on the Block" for baby-related reading.

NBR, I'm reading through the Outlander series. Recently read Girl on a Train & Gone Girl, and I'm taking Sharp Objects to the beach with me this week. I like creepy/disturbing stuff apparently, lol.

@homebird I do really like it! And I so understand being drawn to creepy/thriller type reads! I read Gone Girl in two days. I like "The Girls" because it's also historical fictional which is my fav on top of being creepy.

My mom just recently told me I'd like the Outlander series -- she is watching the show. Do you like it?

I'm not reading any parenting/baby books. I did all that with DS and it's all still pretty fresh. I did get some good advice from The No Cry Sleep Solution, though, and Happiest Baby on the Block. Might peruse those if I start having issues. Also, there was some book about Wonder Weeks I think? I never read the book, but it was super helpful to go online and look up Wonder Weeks and what kind of behavior to expect. It was really pretty accurate for our son, at least for a good portion of his first year.

Non-BR books--I'm currently reading The Winner's Curse series by Marie Rutkoski. It's YA fantasy. I'm on the third book and enjoying it quite a bit!

Not currently reading any birth related books. I did with my first pregnancy and I felt they just stressed me out. Then with the last one I was in the OB rotation of nursing school which really stressed me out.

NBR - currently reading Turning Angel by Greg Iles. I love his books. Also love the Outlander books and often recommend them to people!

looks like you guys left a lot of good recommendations though I'll have to try out!

Currently reading The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King. Just finished Room and enjoyed it, although someone on another thread pointed out it may not be the best book to read pre-delivery. It didn't seem to bother me, but it can be sad!

ETA: just watched the movie and THAT was sad. I'm glad I didn't see that in theaters...I hate crying in the thearter

I LOVE Gillian Flynn, and Sharp Objects is my favorite of hers!

I'm definitely planning on reading Happiest Baby On The Block but haven't started (or bought) it yet. Maybe Amazon Prime needs to help me out with this one otherwise I'll probably never get it.

I honestly haven't read any other baby/parenting books and don't know if I will. Is that a bad thing?

As for NBR, I'm currently working my way (slowly) through the Game of Thrones books. Finishing book 2. Also I'm reading The Tsar of Love and Techno by Anthony Marra. The name doesn't sound like much, I'm totally one to "judge a book by it's cover"-- and I never would have picked this up. But I'm reading it for a book club and I actually am loving it!! Highly recommended. It's a bunch of different stories through several decades/time periods that are all woven together through one detail. Very, very well written.
