Switching from breast to pumped bottle

At least for today to see if that helps with his gas.  Another rough night and even with a shield my nipples are taking the brunt of it. Lactation said he's latching as well as he can but my girls seriously need a break.  Hoping this is a win-win for both of us until we can address the tongue tie.
Now I know DH or anyone besides me is supposed to give the bottle but it just didn't work out hat way.  He took it like a champ!  Fingers crossed we both get some relief.  Anyone else dealing with this?

Re: Switching from breast to pumped bottle

  • I dealt with that and unfortunately it led to my dude no longer nursing. So I have joined the exclusive pumping club. I still try to get him to nurse but he just refuses. Hell latch, suck, get angry, repeat. However I have a low supply that I can't seem to build up so he is partial formula too. Not sure if the low supply has anything to do with it. we have had a rough time since he beginning. Good luck momma, I hope you get some relief!

  • My supply is good.  He's been exclusively on a nipple shield since day 2 (I as already bleeding on both sides) and is 9 days old now.  I'm assuming this might have contributed to taking the bottle so well.  If he ever goes back to breast without a shield it would be a new ballgame anyway so we will just have to see what plays out.  I never knew one could learn so much about someone in such a short time.  Especially with the zombie mode in full force.  We will get through it!

It's pretty wild isn't it?! My first ate anything so when I couldn't produce period due to him being premature and my milk never coming in he took right to formula. This time around I went to 37 weeks, my milk came with a low supply (but at least he's getting some) and he was horrible with the formula. Thank god for the samples I collected when pregnant so I didn't have to spend/waste money. But four formulas later we finally found one hell drink. I save the formula feedings for night so we don't have to make him wait warming up the breast milk. It's been working out pretty good.

have you put your milk on your nipples after feeding? When I try to nurse and he's being a punk he tears mine up. So I always put a few drops of milk on when I'm done pumping and let it air dry. Then the lanolin which I also will let sit for 5-10 min so it soaks/sets in before I put my bra on and it really helps heal my nipples quickly.
