I'm seriously struggling to get enough protein every day and I'm considering adding protein powder to my diet. Do you know if it's safe for pregnancy? Do you use protein powder? If so, which brand do you use?
I was using protein powders in my smoothies before I got pregnant, and my midwife said it was absolutely fine to continue. At my last appointment she actually recommended I have a smoothie with protein every day since I've been struggling with "nighttime" sickness and have a hard time eating dinner some days.
I like Nutiva hemp protein and Sprout Living Epic protein powder (plant based). I think the main thing is to look for something that doesn't have a lot of additives or extra ingredients. I'd also stay away from protein powders that are blended with herbs, eg, maca, as those are not recommended during pregnancy.
Dirty lurker from March, but they make Baby Booster which is prenatal specific protein powders. I used it with my last pregnancy when I had completely lost my appetite but needed to have something. The taste wasn't that bad in comparison to other protein powders I have had.
