Favorite Books!

jumping on the podcast wagon but with a twist...so what's your favorite books? What are you currently reading?
I just finished One Thousand White Women and boy what a great story! It's the diaries of a women named May Dodd and her experience as a volunteer wife of a Cheyenne Indian along with a group of other women. It was emotional and nicely written.
I just started Skinny Bitch Bun in the Oven. Well it's super snarky and very educational! I think a lot of women here would really enjoy the tone and style of the book ( I know I am haha) Disclaimer* It is a for vegan book but I haven't come across the word vegan yet. I'm just getting that vibe from the few chapters I've read so far. So not annoying or pushy like some books or materials might be. Can't wait to hear everyone else's current reads!

  • Ooh, I don't know if I can pick just one favorite book!

Some that come to mind: The Help, The Color Purple, and Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret.

Currently, I've got Dan Browns Inferno on standby but every time I have a chance to settle down and read a little, I end up falling asleep.

  • I'll have to check out Francine Rivers and Pretty Girls.
The help was awesome! I've heard about the color purple I'm heading to the library this week lol.
Bumpasaurus Rex I too fall asleep haha but I kinda love taking the naps while curled up reading.
  • I read quite a bit like 25-40 books a year and most recently the cemetery of forgotten book series was my favorite.

Im currently reading the master and margherita but am not as pretentious as that makes me sound.
  • Right now I'm reading Marian Keyes. Again, for like the 50th time. My favorite authors of all time would be Mark Twain and Kurt Vonnegut. I love me some satire.
  • Some of my favorites are Snow Falling on Cedars, The House of Mirth, and The Woman in White.  I also love anything by Alison Weir, who writes amazing history books - my favorite of hers is The Six Wives of Henry VIII.

I love all Jodi Picoult books. Often tragedies, so maybe not the best to read while pg and emotional, but otherwise great stuff.

I have WAY too many "favorite" books to name, but the one that always pops up first in my head is Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I also adored The Rosie Project and The Rosie Effect.

My husband isn't a big reader, at least of novels and such, and never read the Harry Potter series...so right now I'm reading it out loud to him. I have a feeling it's good practice for when the little one comes along! I'm also reading Prince of Tides on my own.

I also read Pretty Girls recently! wasn't sure I liked it at first, but kept going and it definitely got better...to the point where I wasted an entire day reading it! Mystery / thrillers are definitely one of my favorite genres.

I couldn't read these books. They drag on sooo hard I only made it through the second book. But man I just watched the season finale and sobbed so hard yesterday.
  • I love books and read a lot. I've noticed lately I've been feeling more YA fiction or easy to digest romance (Debbie Macomber books) or popular beach reads. Easy to start and stop depending on the day.
  • I also love crime/suspense novels and James Patterson is my favorite author in that genre.

  • my favorites right now have been, Tinkers, by Paul hardy... a story about a man on the verge of death having flashback memories of his childhood, and his father. The last day of a condemned man, by Victor hugo, about a man condemned to die and obviously his last day. I loved the 5th wave series and am currently on the final book. About alien invasion lol sounds cheesy but I love them. Only autobiography type that I could finish was Mindy Kaling, is everybody hanging out without me, I thought it was super funny. And I like pretty much all of Nicholas Sparks books. I'm looking forward to checking out some of the other mentioned books!! I like variety

  • @mjsommer I read one thousand white women a while back and LOVED it. Such a great book.

A couple of others I have read recently:

    "The Color of Secrets"

"The Fall of Giants" (long - but very good)

    TW*******

Anyone who has experienced a loss or has anxiety about a loss I would NOT recommend reading this book. However, I love a good sad book every once in a while so I do also recommend "The Light Between Oceans: a Novel." The main woman character in the novel experiences many heart wrenching losses. The book is wonderful but sad. I wouldn't recommend it if it will cause concern given our current state!

    END TW********

like @bumpasaurusrex I also love a good crime novel and enjoy James Patterson and Harlan Coben.

The books are very long, but I love all of the story lines and how they come together. The finale was soooo heartbreaking, but in a good way. When Jaime said "And I you." I lost it!  :'(
