Baby wearing

who is wearing their babes? What is your favorite and why? I already know I do not like ring slings or wraps so this is more about carriers. I am just up in the air on which one to get. I really thought I wanted ergo, but now I don't know. I don't think I like their infant insert looks too hot for our summer babes. Looking for other opinions.

Thanks in advance!

I got the ergo 360 cool air because it has some mesh panels to keep kiddo cooler. I'm planning to skip the infant insert and use a rolled blanket as a booster (she's almost 9lbs already). I also made a diy k'tan from a Pinterest blog I found that works well.

@meggyme that was my plan until I realized they only go up to 33lbs and I don't know how much I like that. That's kinda why I started this cause now I don't know what to do!

  • My ergo is awesome. I've used it with my two older kids and will this time too. I don't have the infant insert, so I'm using the moby wrap until she can hold her head up enough for the ergo. I like the moby better than other wraps for the newborn stage

  • The diy k'tan I made was super easy and I made it with 3 tshirts from the dollar store. It's a good cheap option until they're able to be in a bigger carrier.

  • Love our Tula!!!!!!
  • @adiaz132003 Tula is what I'm leaning towards. Are you using the infant insert?

  • @ashkee05 my 20 month old weighs maybe 26lbs. My 4 year old neice is maybe 30lbs. Just something to think about with weight ranges.
  • I have the boba 4g.  Haven't used it yet but it looks just like the tula my friend has and loves. And with the boba you don't need an i sent since it comes with what you need.

Yes keeps him from going too low and supports his head great.
  • I have the ergo 360 with infant Insert but I agree that it seems to hot for summer. We also have the mesh bjorn and that is awesome!  Very easy to get on and off and easy to get baby out and transition to laying him down without waking him up. So we're using that until he's big enough to go in the ergo without the insert.
  • I have the ergo with the insert and my son loves it! I feel it's more secure too. I have a moby wrap which I like if I know I'll be nip...I haven't figured out nursing in the ergo yet so if I'm out like at a restaurant, I'll bring the moby so I can nurse him comfortably.
  • @Bear14+ I have another son and 5 nephews so I am familiar with weight. I just know my first was a chunk and my newest is seeming to be too and I absolutely do not want to be stuck buying two carries so I like how the Tula or Lille baby have a higher weight limit

@adiaz132003 and you like it? I read some where  else a lot of girls said their babies didn't like it. I certainly think it looks better than ergos

  • I have an ergo performance with an infant insert and we just started using it since she just got heavy enough. She doesn't seem to get any hotter in the insert than she did in her car seat or a wrap. I'm also using the Moby wrap. She is still so small that I worry a lot about positioning and open airways and head support. Looking forward to when she gets bigger and sturdier. I do love wearing her though and husband likes wearing her as well. I loved wrapping him in the Moby so he could hold her and I could eat.
  • I have a moby and my DD is not a fan both my boys liked it but not this little lady. I wanted to wait till she was older to get a carrier but didn't have an option since we wanted to go to a festival in mountains when she was 2 weeks. So I got a lilibaby complete all seasons, I love it, she loves it, I walked around for 3 hrs and it didn't hurt my back. I did need to roll a towel up under her to raise her up but she didn't mind. I also use it now when I have to take her shopping and plan on using it for all our outings. I also got gender neutral do my husband will wear it when she's bigger and i need a break.

Love my Boba 4g so far (3 weeks pp). Has 2-stage infant insert, removable hood, and is very comfy, though a mile is about all the farther I've gone so far. Good from 7-45lbs. Yes, a little warm, but could be a lot worse. Plus, DD loves it. Only place she'll nap during the day.

How heavy did the baby have to be for the ergo infant insert?  Tried out my 360 with the insert the other day and it looked like it swallowed him whole.

Infant insert started at 7lbs. And she did look tiny in it but she seems to Iike to cocooned feeling the insert gave her.

I have a Kindercarry. It's really comfortable and has the mesh to keep the baby cool.
I have a friend that has a bunch of carriers that she let me try. I suggest finding a local baby wearing group and they will let you try different carriers.

  • @rlbrooks84 lillebaby and Tula are what I am torn between. I read a lot of reviewed of Lille that they seem poorly made, do you think this??

@cmac827 I wish I could find a baby wearing group but where I live I would never ever go. Too many judgy moms around, I can't do the group thing it's terrible!

Yes.  My husband uses it more than me, I use my wrapsody breeze wrap when I'm home, but DS chills out right away in it.

@ashkee05 Where do you live? I don't think baby wearing groups around here have judgy people at all--they seem very inclusive, based on the moms I have met who are members through the last 4 years. The local groups around here seem super laid back and have lending libraries of carriers for people to try. I was invited this week to attend a meeting by a woman at my LLL cafe. It can't hurt to check it out--the worst case scenario is that they are judgy and you don't go back.

  • I also have a Lillebaby All Seasons. I've taken DD in the yard in it so far while I play with DS. I really like it! Love not having an infant insert. I'm not sure why a review would say it wasn't well made... I think it's very solidly constructed.

  • @ashkee05 I was worried about the same thing based on some reviews I saw but I love mine and so does Charlotte. I was bummed out she didn't like the moby but that thing gets hot in the summer and the lilibaby is much cooler.
  • I have the Infantino Mei Tei and I absolutely love it. I was never comfortable with the Moby or K'tan, and I don't wear enough to spend the money on an Ergo or Tula, so this is a great compromise. It's comfy for both of us and easy to use.

  • @alileecam I am in WI. I am also tattooed, pierced and 32 but look super young. I tried a mom and me group, and a breastfeeding group and both were super uncomfortable. I can only handle so many dirty looks and people thinking I'm some young girl with two kids so I just like to keep to myself and my people. I have had a hard time connecting w moms since my first. They all tend to be older than me and don't really care to get to know me. I guess after the two groups I tried I decided I have enough stress in my every day life I don't want to try more lol maybe it's a bad call on my part but two bad groups make me not want to try again

  • @ashkee05 Sorry you had that experience. You would be totally welcome and fit in to any of the groups around here (and should be anywhere)... the ages range from mid-20s to early 40s and I have never seen someone ostracized for tattoos or any other superficial reason. Maybe I have been lucky, but there are great variety of people and philosophies in any of these groups. Not everyone ends up being best friends or even getting along, but the groups usually prove to be beneficial in some way to all of the members and you're bound to find at least a few moms to bond with and learn from.

  • We have a beco Gemini which is lighter because it doesn't need a newborn insert, it's adjustable with snaps to size for them. We've mostly used the moby so far though.

I am in WI too... Not sure where in WI you are, but I can totally see where in some cities this would be more of an issue than others.  I attend a breastfeeding support group at the hospital I delivered at.  There are a bunch of women there and in my experience like most groups of women there is an alpha group of ladies.  I am not a big support group kind of person, but I get a chance to weigh my little guy and get free advice from the hospital lactations nurses. This particular hospital is not in one of the more upscale neighborhoods, so there is a wide array of moms... I feel like i may be one of the older ones at 35.

Don't give up, I have found that even though I am not the support group type or that I interact a lot with the group, I look forward to the outing every week.

Ok so my above post is only part off what I meant to post... The app will not let me edit!  Jerks!
ETA: bump keeps cutting me off!! I really wanted to add... Good Luck from a fellow WI mom!!
  • Well after my friend let me try her Tula yesterday/today I officially decided to go with one of those. I thought it was super comfy and my little man loved it. Ordered my first one today!

Thank you for all your feedback!!!

@egirl1025 all very great points. i just never seem to fit in with any of my groups cause I'm no where near a typical soccer mom and that's the groups I ended up in. Maybe I should try again but when I feel like I need support I just hop on here lol this is my kind of group. Thank you though I appreciate your good thoughts and good luck to you too!! I wish all moms would just stick together and support eachother!!

  • That's an adorable print!
  • I'm getting a ktan and lilliebaby.  I didn't wear DD, but feel like I'll be wearing this LO alot.
  • DS hates the ktan and the ergo so far :(  now what??
  • @lisawiden maybe try a Tula? Also through this and another group I've been hearing good thinks about lillebaby

What do you think he doesn't like about it? I know my DD didn't like the ktan or my moby but those are both wrap style and that's why I got a lillebaby. She loves it. I also got a  Infantino Mei Tei because it was on sale at babies r us and I wanted something for around the house that wasn't as bulky as my lillebaby but I'm still getting use to it. Like others suggested you might want to find a group that has a lending library and then you can find something he likes. I hope you find something that works, I love wearing my LO!
  • @rlbrooks84 he kept busting a foot or his head out of the ktan kangaroo hold, so I thought maybe he felt too confined. As for the ergo, I think the chest to chest position was just too new for him. He was sooooo upset the 10-15 min I had him in it. There was no soothing him :(
  • Anyone have any experience with a Balboa Ring Sling?

    Pregnancy TickerBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • We got the K'tan Active and really love it right now while he's too little to use the Ergo without the insert.  It stays nice and cool and is much easier than the Moby I had before with my first.  Once he's big enough to not need the insert, I plan to use our old Ergo for the extra back support for me.  We have a Bjorn too.  My husband prefers it to the Ergo so he uses it.  I didn't like it much.

Did you try the hug hold in the K'tan?  He might just prefer to be legs out.
