pubic bone pain?

edited July 2016 in September 2016 Moms
I currently have a 13 month old and I'm 31 1/2 weeks pregnant with my second. The first pregnancy was a breeze for the most part but since 24 weeks with this pregnancy my pubis bone constantly cracks (like when you crack your knuckles, you can even hear it), it pops in and out, and it burns. I can't walk, turn around, get up, sit down... Basically every move I make it cracks or pops in and out of place and it's so painful.

I'm constantly on my feet in cosmetology school and always chasing a toddler so I try to rest but it's basically impossible.

i talk to my doctor and she didn't seem concerned at all and told me to go to a chiropractor. So I went and it didn't do anything at all, it's just getting worse.

has anyone experienced this before and how did you relieve the pain? I have 8 1/2 weeks left and I don't know how much longer I can take it.

Re: pubic bone pain?

  • Did you only go to the chiropractor once? Often times it takes multiple visits to fix an issue

  • Yes, I'm going to talk to my doctor again Monday and see what she says before I go again!

I had similar issues and was just diagnosed with SPD it is when the pelvic bone seperates, I had my first physical therapy appt last Monday and was given a belt to wear 24/7 until 8 weeks postpartum. I guess it can be pretty serious. I would surely ask your Doctor about this. The cracking noise of my bones it was me finally draw the line between it being just sore from my 3rd pregnancy and being something more serious. I was told to stay away from the chiro also because that may actually shift it not for the good, causing more pain and problems.
  • Oh no.. Did it affect your delivery at all or did you get diagnosed after you had the baby? and did you have to be put on bed rest? @jtrue2

I am currently 31 weeks right now, she said it may affect birth and she promotes birthing on all fours, or laying on left side. As far as bed rest I am not but my restrictions are crazy.. no heavy lifting, no bending with knees, no sitting on floor, leave knees together as much as possible during day, especially sleeping and getting in and out of bed and car, no squatting.. it has been hell to be honest. I work as a lead teacher in a daycare center and have a 3 year old and 7 year old at home. She even said no give baths make my 3 year old stand so i can stand while washing her. As far as after birth she said worse case she has seen the woman had to use a walker after delivery for quite some time.. i have read horror stories online. My last two pregnancies were smooth and births went good so i was hoping for a smooth birth the last time but not sure if that is in my future... :/
  • Oh my goodness. There is no way I can do that. I have to do ALL of that for cosmetology school and I love playing with my baby on the floor. It seems literally impossible. I'm so sorry.

Absolutely, it is silly but I guess I am trying my best to follow orders because I really don't want to live with bigger problems down the road. It sounds like most of time it sets straight after birth.
  • It's called Pubic Symphasis Diastasis.  I have it now too and it is EXCRUCIATING.  I feel your pain.  I've been seeing a PT for mine, per my OB's recommendation.  Her best suggestions were a pregnancy pillow, a silky nightgown (for easier movement) and log rolling in bed.  I've found that rolling over at night is the most painful part of my day (and when my bone cracks the most) - keeping yourself in a fetal position and rolling everything at once takes some practice, but it REALLY helps.  Good luck!

  • I always try to log roll and I still can't do it. I wake my fiancé up everything I move in the bed because I basically yell every time. It's not AS bad during the day if I rest but when I have a lot of clients and I'm on my feet constantly it gets so much worse. My doctors tend to deny that anything is wrong but I'm going to definitely let them know how serious it is. Thank you! @Flowr4246
