We are dealing with one. It's middle of the rd as far as how bad but he also has a recessed chin so if it weren't for nipple shields we would definitely be bottle only. Anyone deal with either or both of these? His chin didn't look deformed, just is a little farther back than it should be. Hoping that was something that will resolve or at least improve. Going to see what pediatrician recommends for getting tie clipped. Still need to research that more.
Re: Tongue ties and recessed chin
Although lactation consultants may be overzealous in their diagnosis of lip and tongue ties, conversely, pediatricians are not necessarily trained in properly identifying them either. If you are experiencing issues with breastfeeding that are indicative of a tie, I would strongly recommend you seek out an opinion from someone trained in diagnosing and correcting ties. An LC diagnosed both of my twins with tongue ties, but said only one seemed bad enough to warrant correction. My ped assessed both boys, came to the same conclusion, and was able to clip my son's tongue tie. Both boys have no issues with their latches now. Not all tongue ties affect nursing.
