I don't see one of these yet for this week.

  • @lotsofsunshine - I can completely understand! Expect my mom lives 12 hours away and still manages to create drama, BS, and general stress in my life on a regular basis. She'll randomly drop these casual "I might move back to GA" lines when we talk and all I can do is pray she doesn't actually do it. I would die.

  • @BritMC18 I agree. That's one of the reasons I want to get out of the newspaper business. I'm so tired of following these stories and reading through them thoroughly and putting them in the newspaper day after day. All the gun violence is getting depressing and out of hand.
  • I'm a terrible person. My UO is that I wish my mother didn't live so close to us. We get along so much better when I only see her twice a year. I have reached my limit for drama and BS.

YES!!!  My mom used to live 4+ hours away so I'd only see her on holidays or special weekends. Now she lives 40ish min away and if it were up to we we'd see each other at least once a week.
  • @BritMC18 I'm a GA girl as well but living overseas in the Middle East. Honestly when I go home and people say, "I'm so worried about you over there." My response is, "Really? I'm honestly a lot more worried for you living here." They usually look pretty dumbfounded after I say that but it's true.
The country I live in, guns are illegal. I don't wake up each morning to news of shootings all over the place. Granted, there are other different problems to contend with obviously, but when I hear about what's happening at home, it doesn't make me want to move back any faster.
  • @Hannah0726 yay for GA girls :) I have several friends/acquaintances who live in the middle east and every time they come home I hear about how they can't wait to go back. There are definitely a different set of problems there, but yeah, they seem to echo your sentiments about not wanting to move back anytime soon.

  • @BritMC18 @Hannah0726 I'm a Georgia girl too! Although I don't really like living in this state either. Moving cities soon should help a lot though.
  • I don't like the double space after a sentence! But maybe that's because I work for a newspaper and now that space is so limited in print editions due to the industry never having enough money anymore, you need to conserve space in any way you can. I enjoyed the double space when I had to write papers in college of a certain length and you could get an entire additional page out of that. Although I tend to be a long winded writer anyway and rarely had difficulty in that area unless it was a subject I didn't care for.
My reasoning for liking it is really simple and not well founded. It is how I was taught to type and I can't overcome the muscle memory ;)
  • @liljabee that's a good reason! I hate change and prefer to stick with the way I originally learned things too.
  • @liljabee Yes to all of those!  "On accident" and "seen" instead of "saw" drive me up the wall.

@BritMC18 I'm Canadian, but I agree with you-- the culture of gun violence/racism and grandstanding politics in the US is really scary.  I'm glad I'm here, but we watch what happens in the US closely, because it affects us too.

My UO is that I kind of hate how "organized" we require the board to be.  The Randoms thread is overwhelming and hard to keep up with.  I'd rather that there were individual posts about random subjects-- that's how it was on my April '13 board and a lot of the threads ended up being pretty entertaining, even if they did wander off topic.  I think policing the types of threads that can be posted shuts down the flow of conversation and potential spontaneity.

  • My UO: I can't stand when people say "I could care less." Really? If you could care less, why even talk about it? If you COULDN'T care less, that's a whole different story.
  • @midwestbaby I agree with you about the birth story threads. I love reading them! I used to read the birth stories every day and now there hasn't been any added for a long time.
