It really bothers me when people say "on accident" rather than "by accident"
Apparently, both are grammatically acceptable, but I just can't with "on accident" - it is an age related prefence according to my Googling so um, get off my lawn?
Also, long live the double space after a period and the Oxford comma!
I don't like the double space after a sentence! But maybe that's because I work for a newspaper and now that space is so limited in print editions due to the industry never having enough money anymore, you need to conserve space in any way you can. I enjoyed the double space when I had to write papers in college of a certain length and you could get an entire additional page out of that. Although I tend to be a long winded writer anyway and rarely had difficulty in that area unless it was a subject I didn't care for.
I'm a terrible person. My UO is that I wish my mother didn't live so close to us. We get along so much better when I only see her twice a year. I have reached my limit for drama and BS.
@lotsofsunshine - I can completely understand! Expect my mom lives 12 hours away and still manages to create drama, BS, and general stress in my life on a regular basis. She'll randomly drop these casual "I might move back to GA" lines when we talk and all I can do is pray she doesn't actually do it. I would die.
I had a great UO I was going to use last week and then pregnancy brain kicked in and it went right out of my head. I still can't remember what is was.
My UO for this week will probably be really controversial, but I hope my explaining at least makes sense.
I really don't like being an American/living in the US. I appreciate the freedoms living here allocates me, and I have mad respect for our service men/women who fight for our freedoms... however, I hate what our country has become. I hate that I can't watch tv or get online without being bombarded by gun violence, police brutality, political bullshit, etc. I'm embarrassed that "the greatest country on earth" really isn't so great. We call ourselves that, but there are so many other places that have their shit together way more than we do. As a nation we try to be involved in everyone else's business and tell them what's best, but maybe we should be looking at other country's and strive to be more like them.
I understand there is no one perfect country - all of them have their flaws. But I'm absolutely terrified of what this country is becoming.
@BritMC18 I agree. That's one of the reasons I want to get out of the newspaper business. I'm so tired of following these stories and reading through them thoroughly and putting them in the newspaper day after day. All the gun violence is getting depressing and out of hand.

YES!!! My mom used to live 4+ hours away so I'd only see her on holidays or special weekends. Now she lives 40ish min away and if it were up to we we'd see each other at least once a week.
@BritMC18 I'm a GA girl as well but living overseas in the Middle East. Honestly when I go home and people say, "I'm so worried about you over there." My response is, "Really? I'm honestly a lot more worried for you living here." They usually look pretty dumbfounded after I say that but it's true. The country I live in, guns are illegal. I don't wake up each morning to news of shootings all over the place. Granted, there are other different problems to contend with obviously, but when I hear about what's happening at home, it doesn't make me want to move back any faster.
@Hannah0726 yay for GA girls I have several friends/acquaintances who live in the middle east and every time they come home I hear about how they can't wait to go back. There are definitely a different set of problems there, but yeah, they seem to echo your sentiments about not wanting to move back anytime soon.

My reasoning for liking it is really simple and not well founded. It is how I was taught to type and I can't overcome the muscle memory

I had a very similar conversation with a friend who lives in South Korea. I said I was so worried about her with her proximity to North Korea and she was also dumbfounded. Her exact words were, "I would be more worried about you since America is considered the enemy." It appears that the rest of the world thinks America is extremely dangerous to live in. Which strikes me as odd because the news makes it seem like so many want to move here, even at the risk of it being illegal.
I often wonder about the kind of world my child is going to live in. As if I don't have enough other things that keep me up at night...

@BritMC18 I absolutely understand what you're saying. Especially in this last week, I have been so saddened to see what is happening in our country. I love the concepts of what America is supposed to stand for (freedom, acceptance, etc), but, sadly, those things are not being reflected in all the awful things that have been occurring.
@liljabee Yes to all of those! "On accident" and "seen" instead of "saw" drive me up the wall.
@BritMC18 I'm Canadian, but I agree with you-- the culture of gun violence/racism and grandstanding politics in the US is really scary. I'm glad I'm here, but we watch what happens in the US closely, because it affects us too.
My UO is that I kind of hate how "organized" we require the board to be. The Randoms thread is overwhelming and hard to keep up with. I'd rather that there were individual posts about random subjects-- that's how it was on my April '13 board and a lot of the threads ended up being pretty entertaining, even if they did wander off topic. I think policing the types of threads that can be posted shuts down the flow of conversation and potential spontaneity.
@Frenchteachermama I kinda wish we had more topics to discuss individually too. But if I see one more breast pump or Braxton hicks thread my eyes may fall out.
I'm hoping some of the regulars do individual birth story/labor threads and also post the birth announcements. It was hard digging around to see if @AliKay20 had her baby or not.

Out of boredom at work, I would enjoy more individual threads as well. Adding one more to the no more list though, the "did my baby drop" question. It kills me.
My UO is sort of grammar related. I hate it when people use "cuz" instead of because or even b/c.
My UO: I can't stand when people say "I could care less." Really? If you could care less, why even talk about it? If you COULDN'T care less, that's a whole different story.
@midwestbaby I agree with you about the birth story threads. I love reading them! I used to read the birth stories every day and now there hasn't been any added for a long time.
