Cribs-Convertible or no?

I was all for getting a convertible crib but then realized that we will just have to get another brib when it's time for #2.  If we buy a regular crib now then we can just buy a day bed/toddler bed/or twin bed for #1 when #2 comes and re-use the crib.  What are your thoughts?

Re: Cribs-Convertible or no?

  • We got a regular crib. #2 is on the way and #1 is in a toddler bed.....my thoughts were I would not have picked out that furniture (convertible bed)  to decorate my toddlers room and way because it's not really my style.

  • Ds's crib doesn't convert to a toddler/day bed, but it does convert to a double. Eventually, even if not baby #1, the last baby could use it as a double.
  • i didn't want a convertible crib b/c chances are by the time i made DS's room into a big boy room- i'd want different furniture all together.

  • I think if you find a crib that you love and see that it converts into a full bed  it is beneficial to get it know.  That is why we ordered pieces that would grow with our baby.  At least you have options if #2 takes a while.  If not then use it as a crib for #2 and eventually it will turn into a todddler bed for that one.  I do think it  is worth it.
  • We went ahead and got the convertible crib.  I liked that it converts to a *full* bed as well, not just to a toddler bed.

We bought it with the realization that the crib will stay a crib until #2 (someday baby :) ) outgrows it.  With #1, we'll have her in the nursery and once she's big enough will move her to a "big girl" room, while keeping the nursery in tact for #2.

  • Our crib is convertible, but we didn't buy the conversion kit yet...we plan to use the same crib for #2 and buy bedroom sets for the kids eventually.
