September 2016 Moms

6th cold... I'm SO done.

Today is one of those days where I'm so ready to be done being pregnant.  I woke up this morning with my 6th cold since the beginning of the year.  Coughing, sneezing, congested, and sore throat.  I'm so miserable.  I mentioned it to my OB a couple months ago, wondering if there was something wrong with my immune system, but he didn't seem concerned.  The worst part is that I can't take anything for it.  Hurry up September, I'm SO over the misery!!

I got my first cold this past weekend. After throwing up and peeing myself I'm over it. I got a nasty one my first pregnancy and had it for a good month, went into labor with it and it was horrible.
  • I had bronchitis for a month with my last pregnancy.  So not fun.
  • Are you sure it's your 6th separate cold and not an ongoing respiratory infection or a really really bad allergy episode?

I don't normally have allergies at all, but last year I was super sick for over a month with gross coughing (deep chest coughing), congestion, headache, and sore throat. No fever and cold medicine wasn't helping. I had to go to urgent care at one point because I was coughing so much it was hard to get a good breath in. Diagnosis? Allergies. Just randomly, after years and years of no allergies, I had an allergy attack. They put me on a strong (temporary) allergy meds course and it got better. So, maybe that?

  • What @Bibliobebe said. I just got over what I though was a nasty cold, but my doctor diagnosed as severe allergies. He gave me a nasal spray and inhaler and it's gone now. I was taking Robitussin DM for the nasty cough I was having as well. Allergy season is so bad this year!!!

  • I was thinking maybe allergies too! I normally have pretty bad allergies, but I am dyyying with this pregnancy and not being able to/not wanting to take anything. Allergy season has been very bad this year for a lot of people.

Yes I totally agree that it's allergies. Have you considered immunotherapy? I go about once every two weeks to get injections of the pollens I'm allergic to in order to help me be more immune to them during their most active times. I STRONGLY recommend this! They're totally safe during pregnancy and it's a natural way of going about things without drugs. I went from having sinus infections once a month to once a year.
  • You can take all of the Tylenol line of OTC cold meds.  My favorites are Tylenol Sever Cold/Flu and Tylenol Sinus.

You can also take plain Claritin (not Claritin-D) - 10mg loratidine.  I've found that taking one of those nightly with my vitamins helps keep the pollen at bay and staves off colds.

    Feel better soon!
