So I'm thinking that while I'm looking for a new job I can pick up some more sewing clients. I've done freelance sewing off and on for the last 8 years. I want to find something though that pays better than small alteration jobs. 

So here's my idea: custom baby clothes blankets. The kind that the quilt squares are made of old baby clothes. I think I have a design that would be easy enough to make. My area has lots of young professional families that only have 1-2 kids, and it seems like there would be a market for it. 

Would you pay for a service/product like this? And if so, how much would be reasonable to charge? I'm thinking of offering two sizes, one smaller and one full sized.

    I think of you got the world out people would love it.  It's a cool way to keep a bunch of the clothes and pass it to the kids later on rather than hanging on to boxes of cloths hoping your kids' kids can wear them.  I'd look on test and see what people charge for custom quilts and then factor in the fact that you wouldn't have to buy fabric but you'd have pick up the clothes or have it shipped.

    I was looking at prices on Etsy, but I always think Etsy prices are way too high

    I guess what I would be willing to pay would depend on the size of the quilt.  Etsy is high for somethings, but not to bad for other things.  I have seen a bunch of different designs for the baby cothers quilts. My mom quilts so I have started to look at pieces that I would like to be made into a quilt. My guess is you will have to charge around 200.00 to make money doing this, and even then you will have to make it fairly quickly if you dived the hours worked by what you charge.

    Some etsy sellers are way too pricey, but as a seamstress myself, between materials and time, some prices are actually THAT expensive. So I think looking at etsy may not be the right spot for some items
