DH and pre baby travel

i know this is far in advance but my DH has a work trip to Florida planned 4 weeks before baby is due( we live in NJ). DS came three weeks early so I'm really not keen on DH being a three hour flight away. I told him there's no way he can go but he's not to pleased about it. Opinions please?

  • I'd feel the same way. That is cutting it too close.

  • Yea I wouldn't want DH traveling that close either so I don't blame you. Maybe just give him some time to think about it some more. I'm sure he'd feel awful if he missed the birth of your child. Even if it is only a 3hr flight, flights get delayed or canceled. I mean we're talking about February here, weather isn't exactly predictable in the winter...

How flexible is his employer? Is this an optional assignment he accepted or would declining put his career at risk? It definitely sucks either way, but I can understand him keeping it if his job is on the line.

I am worried about this as well. My husband is a pilot so flying away is literally his job. He said once we get closer he will talk to his boss about only doing day trips and not leaving the country. I think that's as good as I can get. At least I know that anywhere in the country he can get back to me in about 3-4 hours and he can hop on literally any plane (even a ups one) to do that so I'm only a little bit worried.
If I had a choice like you though, I would ask him to cancel the trip. Especially because of your history of going early.

  • 4 weeks from your due date is cutting it pretty close, although I wouldn't take it off the table completely.

Every pregnancy is different and you may not go early with this one.  Perhaps you can both agree to play it by ear until the date gets closer?

If it's a trip that would set him back in his career, I'd let him go and have a firm plan of getting him back if you should happen to go into labor.  Maybe ask a family member to stand in if this happens so you aren't alone until he gets there.

  • I would wait until closer to the day. My son was almost 7 weeks early and my daughter was a full term c section with no signs of labor.
  • That would put you at approx 36 weeks? Your OB may not let you travel that late in the pregnancy, and each airline has their own cut off date for travel while pregnant as well.

I think she's talking about her husband.

    Last pregnancy? No way.

This pregnancy? Sure. My babies don't want to leave my body anyway, you can go at 40 weeks for all I care, I'll be pregnant until 2019.
