Re: Tuesday Ticker Change (7/5/16)

  • What's new with baby? (how far along, size, development) 14 weeks, size of a lemon. I was sure this was smaller than a peach, even taking into consideration that it's just a length-based measurement, but I managed to find the largest lemon in the bin at the grocery store yesterday and sure enough...

What are you doing to plan for baby's arrival? Starting to buy all the things some of the things at  this point. Someone asked us about our registry last week so I went ahead and finally jumped on it. I expected it to be way worse cost-wise but aside from the travel system and crib, most stuff was pretty reasonably priced and my insurance apparently covers the cost of the Medela electric pump so... woo. We're also going to look at a few houses this week so we'll have a place to live before January.

Rants / raves / symptoms / questions: I'm hungry all the freaking time this past week. We had dinner last night and went to see fireworks right after (which is just a short walk because we live downtown), and immediately when we came back, I had to eat a small meal again. And then immediately after eating, I was still light-headed and hungry. It never goes away.

When's your next appointment? Friday, meeting the OB, either getting my quad screening draw then or otherwise scheduling it for next week :)

GTKY: Favorite board game? I loved Candyland when I was a kid and forced my mom to play it with me every other day. I'm more into card games these days and really like games like Fluxx, Chrononauts, and Munchkin.

  • What's new with baby? (how far along, size, development) 10 weeks, it's a strawberry!! Vital organs are formed, and forming bones and cartilage :)

What are you doing to plan for baby's arrival? Putting an offer on a house tonight, hopefully it gets accepted!!! Walking through I was visualizing a play room, nursery, and where we'd keep other fun baby things. Can't wait!

Rants / raves / symptoms / questions: Woke up more nauseous than usual :/ ugh so far MS hasn't been an issue, so hopefully it doesn't start now becoming a problem. I know some people who begin MS later, and I really don't want that to be me. I just can't wait to feel baby moving around!! I have many weeks for that, though.
P.S.: I went to motherhood maternity with a coupon, bump bucks, and they were having great sales and ended up with over $200 in clothes for $69!! Very excited about that. I got some great things that work now and will grow well as I get larger.

When's your next appointment?  Thursday I have an apt to get the Harmony test done. I'll be just over 10 weeks and it says you have to be a minimum of 10 weeks, so hopefully it's not "too soon" to get a good and solid test result. Anyone else get this done? We'll be electing to figure out the sex, too.

GTKY: Favorite board game? Two: Monopoly and Quelf!

  • @canavara The hunger is so insane! My purse, car, and desk at work all have snacks now. When the hunger hits, I have to eat immediately or it feels like I might die.

@sweetyjenj Good luck with the house offer! Also I took my bump bucks and coupons to Motherhood Maternity last week to take advantage of the sales too! I ended up going twice because the deals were so good!

  • What's new with baby? (how far along, size, development)

12 weeks! Baby is the size of a plum!

What are you doing to plan for baby's arrival?

Looking at reviews for baby things and trying to find the best out there. I have FOMO of the best deal, so I feel like I have to look at every single thing on the market.

    Rants / raves / symptoms / questions:

Raves: I just had my NT scan this morning, and baby looks great! Not a concern at all, which I didn't think that we would have, but it is great to see baby and hear the heartbeat and just know that it is growing very normal. Set up the anatomy scan too, which made me super excited to know that I am only 6 weeks from finding out the sex of baby.

symptoms: Besides being hangry all the time, none. I told DH yesterday that I could be one of those people on "I didn't know I was pregnant!" TV show on TLC. My mind might change after I get further along, but I haven't had many symptoms besides hunger and missed period this entire pregnancy. Obviously it is fine because baby looks great, but I can't believe how normal I feel.

    When's your next appointment?

2 weeks for a regular doctor appointment, blood, pap, and not fun stuff.

    GTKY: Favorite board game?

The Game of Life! I loved that game so much as a kid, and I still think it is a fun time.

  • What's new with baby? (how far along, size, development) 14 weeks! I read the baby is the size of a muffin or shift stick knob. Also Peanut can now frown, grimace, smile, and suck his/her thumb! It's crazy to think there is a whole personality starting to develop in there!

What are you doing to plan for baby's arrival? We bought our first few outfits for the baby. I've been waiting, because this is an actual outfit the baby will be wearing in 26ish weeks. We've also been working on small improvements around the house that we know we can finish before the baby is born. Today we're spray painting our old dining room set. And DH set up an appointment with a daycare!

Rants / raves / symptoms / questions: Morning sickness still randomly hits me once or twice a day. Hunger is definitely taking over though. I'm able to sleep better at night now that I'm not peeing every hour. Headaches suck. Heartburn sucks. But overall I'm definitely starting to feel better. And I think I felt the baby move over the weekend - which honestly scared the hell out of me!

When's your next appointment? July 18

GTKY: Favorite board game? I don't know if it's actually my favorite board game, but my group of friends has always played Clue together. We're really competitive and it's always so much fun (especially after a few drinks).
  • What's new with baby? (how far along, size, development) 14 weeks! The size of a peach.  I'm reading through the thread about feeling the baby move and wishing I were feeling something this early!

What are you doing to plan for baby's arrival? Nothing yet.  We have to put up a wall in the office to split it into 1/2 nursery, 1/2 office.  Until we get around to that, I'm not planning on doing much.  We already have almost everything we need/want because I bought all gender neutral gear for my daughter and my SIL is passing down my nephew's clothes.  Eventually I'll buy new swaddle blankets and a convertible car seat, but I'm really looking forward to nursery planning.

Rants / raves / symptoms / questions: Headaches are really bothering me lately.  Round ligament pain is randomly getting me when I move too fast.  And constipation, but I had that for the entire duration of my last pregnancy, so I'm prepared for that to stick around.

When's your next appointment? July 19

GTKY: Favorite board game? I used to love The Game of Life.  I can't remember the last time I played, though!

Week 13! Baby is forming teeth, bones are developing, and lanugo is starting to cover the skin!

What are you doing to plan for baby's arrival?
H and I will finish up cleaning out the nursery room this upcoming weekend. And, I started a blanket for the baby. I created a "fake" registry last week for the swag bag since I was in a city that had a store we don't have in our city, and got some pretty good ideas of what will go on our actual registry. We'll probably do our registry when we get back from vacation in mid-July.

    Rants / raves / symptoms / questions:
Rant: I have not felt this crappy since week 8. Exhaustion, dry heaves, terrible headache, and heartburn. It's like I'm getting hit with the 2nd tri symptoms before my 1st tri symptoms have left. Rave: Tonight is my friend group's "Stitch and Bitch" (aka craft night). We get together and work on our craft, talk, and cook dinner. One of the girls is starting her TTC journey, so by the time our husbands/boyfriends come to meet us back at the house (they go out for beer), we're normally talking about cervical fluid, temping, and the like. It's always fun!

    When's your next appointment?
    July 13

    GTKY: Favorite board game?
Carcassonne is probably my favorite board game, but like @canavara we're more into card games. We love Rook, Fluxx, and Magic: the Gathering.

    @cjs260 I LOVE Carcassonne!

What's new with baby? (how far along, size, development)
10 weeks, the size of a cardinal tetra fish

What are you doing to plan for baby's arrival?
We cleaned out the future nursery room, and I started a registry on Amazon, but I'm such a noob and have no idea what to even put on there.

    Rants / raves / symptoms / questions:
MS is slowly getting better, it's now off and on rather than constant. There are still some foods I can't eat. I cried in the bathroom the other night because DH made chicken and broccoli, the two main things I cannot stand, and I felt so bad that he went through the trouble to make it and I couldn't eat it.

When's your next appointment? Tomorrow! Meeting the OB and then...I don't know, going over blood work or something (I don't really know all the terms, I just go give them my blood and urine when they tell me)

GTKY: Favorite board game? This is actually a really tough question. DH and I play board games as like, a major hobby, and there are just too many to choose from. I think I would have to say Trajan. One of the most awesome Euro-style games in existence.

What are you doing to plan for baby's arrival? haven't really done much this week

Rants / raves / symptoms / questions: Still exhausted and nauseous but the nausea isn't as bad during the day as it used to be.  I slept on the couch last night from 7:30pm - 12:00am, got up and got ready for bed then went right back to bed and slept until 6:30am.

When's your next appointment? doctor's appointment on Friday

GTKY: Favorite board game? I actually hate board games, I will play things like Jenga

  • What's new with baby? (how far along, size, development) 12 weeks, size of a plum, and I am almost done with the first trimester thank god

What are you doing to plan for baby's arrival? Today I am working on refinancing/consolidating my (private) student loans, which I'd like to do before we apply for a home loan or whatever it is you need ("whatever it is you need" - I am so good at adulting) before purchasing a house (or, more likely in our case, condo). My mom claims that consolidating government loans is a bad idea because if you wait long enough sometimes the government will offer some sort of loan forgiveness, and that wouldn't be accessible if you consolidated those loans. Anyone have any experience with this? I usually trust my parents on financial matters, since they really have their shit together, but any outside opinions/experience would be welcome!

Rants / raves / symptoms / questions: Rant: In trying to determine the amount I owe on loans, I faced a very annoying obstacle today - the website of servicer that handles my private loans was down, so I couldn't login, and I don't get paper bills, so I couldn't reference that. I called, prepared to be on hold for 45 minutes or something ridiculous, but instead their phone system was also down due to "scheduled maintenance". WHY ARE YOUR WEBSITE AND PHONE SYSTEM DOWN AT THE SAME TIME AGHHHH / Other rant/vent: We went to visit my in-laws this weekend; DH had mentioned that is mom keeps saying that I "might decide to stay home with the baby" every time he talks to her and she wasn't taking the hint when he said I'd already decided I wouldn't. So, sure enough, we got there, and oh man, she just kept saying it (she also had had a lot of wine, which I think contributed). I just kind of gently disagreed, but at one point he got so fed up, he just snapped at her (this was while I was in the other room, btw), "egilona wants you to stop saying that!" I was a little miffed that he had to drag me into it like that, but on the plus side, it actually worked, so... / Symptoms: My MS is now almost-but-not-quite gone, though I can ignore it for the most part. Last night/this morning it was more intense than it has been over the last week and a half or so, but it's still so much better than it was for the two weeks before that, for which I am incredibly thankful. I don't think I could handle a recurrence of all-day-all-night nausea + periodic vomiting.

When's your next appointment? Tomorrow morning I go in for my first ultrasound (it's part of the the whole genetic/NT screening package) and I am SO EXCITED. Thursday I have my monthly midwife/OB appointment.

GTKY: Favorite board game? Probably Trivial Pursuit, though I also really like bluffing games like Balderdash and Malarkey. Drunkenly bartering sheep while playing Settlers of Catan is also a favorite pastime; I'll miss it around the holidays, I'm sure

  • @egilona *this will be long, sorry* adulting is so fun ;) I, too, have mountains of student loans that I'm finally getting the hang of (sort of). I have half in private and half in federal loans. I called federal loans to try and consolidate, but they actually said that it wouldn't change a thing anyway, so they don't consolidate the loans. Private loans, though, consolidated and it was heavenly. We also are putting in an offer on a house today, so I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I don't understand much of anything, but THANK GOODNESS others do and I was able to get a lot of questions answered. Get in touch with a Realtor, they'll recommend you to a financial person (talk to a few of them to get a better quote! Wells Fargo finance people have higher rates that have nothing to do with the actual house, just the cost of using them), then ask and ask all your questions. You'll need records of everything...the last few months of your savings account, banking account so they can see your spending habits, any and all loans and debts, last two years of W2's and tax returns, and copy of last 2 paychecks. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING that is considered "large" until after buying your home. When in doubt, talk to your financial person. Don't even open a store credit card to get a discount. Back to student loans....private ones suck and I wish someone told me this. Once you consolidate, you'll have lower payments (yay!). Federal loans CAN be forgiven after a period of time, but it depends on your job and location. For example, I'm an MFT and I recently got a job at a non-profit organization and apparently if I'm there for 10 years, the rest of my student loans disappear. There's also loan forgiveness at certain jobs, but usually in the community service industry (like teachers or fire fighters) and typically only in certain locations, like working with low income families. I believe, and you'll want to double check, that after 25 years whatever is yet to be paid off is forgiven. Also, with federal loans you can do income based repayments, which is what I was doing, BUT you cannot use this option when buying a home. When buying a home you need standard payments (use the extended option to get lower payments) that are not dependent on your income, and you cannot use the graduated payment plan, either. The best you can do is call them, ask questions, clarify, and do research. I've called the same number multiple times to talk with different people to make sure the information I was getting was accurate. P.S. you cannot consolidate private and federal student loans together. Unfortunately my student loan payments are the same cost as what my mortgage payments will be :disappointed: Good luck, and feel free to ask any questions to me, but I also would suggest calling the right people, googling, doing research, etc. Get clarification, because the more you know and understand, the less anxious you'll be, and the more power you'll have over your options.
