7/5 - Working Moms Check in!

Hope everyone got a restful holiday weekend! Now the work week begins! I'm doing okay except for running out of a meeting because kid is kicking my butt and I'm constipated and it felt like a massive BH contraction. After the bathroom I was okay, just really crowded in there if i don't stay regular. :(

Poor guy I was helping looked terrified and said "don't do that! I don't know how to delivery a baby!" lol, joys of working mommas...

How are yall holding up?

  • I'm struggling with being comfortable sitting at my desk. I'm trying to connect with our HR person to see about getting a new chair since mine is super old and has lost all forms of support.

  • I'm here! That seems like an accomplishment today!

Putting together a quarterly/annual report for the program I run, which thankfully helps the day go by quicker. Had a super busy (but overall very good) weekend that I feel like I need another weekend from!

Lately I've been either too bored or just too hungry at work and eat all of my food by noon... really need to start packing a lot of little healthy snacks to graze my way through, I think I'd be less cranky that way.

Last week I was annoyed by everyone here every day.  Trying not to let myself go down that negative path again. Mamas gotta work, no need to hate it.

  • Been keeping myself busy today, which is good. I found myself super overwhelmed this morning and got a little weepy because of it, but when I stopped and assessed everything I had to do it really wasn't as bad as I was making it out to be. Mountains out of molehills... Way to go, pregnancy brain!

I've been trying to decide when I want my leave to start. My due date is 9/16, which is a Friday. I worked up until 4 days before I went into labor with my daughter and initially I thought I would work right up to my due date with this baby, but I'm starting to rethink. I think I may start my leave on 9/9, one week before my due date, to try and get some rest before this little guy comes. Everyone has warned me he'll probably come early since he's my 2nd, but I put zero stock in what everyone says, because they're not my doctor nor are they psychic.

Part of me wants to save every little bit for when he gets here, and another part just wants a few days of rest. Oh, decisions!

  • My mom decided to come visit me from out of state at the last minute on Friday, so I spent all weekend doing manual labor (shopping for and assembling nursery furniture), when I desperately needed to be catching up on work. So today is a busy day, and I am not loving it, but I am here. I was supposed to be taking my last out of office depositions tomorrow and was able to cancel them, so I should be only working at home or in my own office from here on out, no more traveling. That's nice. I still feel like a real wimp compared to some of my coworkers who have worked until their waters broke. They're like... "10 more weeks? Really? Aren't you, you know... fine?" Actually, they're really nice about it, but I still feel guilty. C'est la vie; I'm tired.

@AmMcc12 @chavezrd2 I am using an upside down trash can I pulled out of an empty office. Close enough... probably taller than a lot of footstools!

  • @AmMcc12 put the lumbar support all the way down, if you're anywhere close to 5'5". I sometimes help out ergonomist out when he's doing evals and I never knew it was supposed to go so low.

remember how braggy I was last week about my productivity? Yeah, that was a one week thing. Now I'm so, so tired. DD woke up 6 times last night and I'm exhausted and totally want to nap on my floor.
  • My motivation is zero to none as per usual anymore. I had to upgrade my tiny little desk fan to a 9'' desk fan because I get too hot at work. (They keep the building at 74. It's 66-68 in my house because I get too damn hot. So being at the office is annoying.) Other than that, I'm just dealing with everyone asking what I'm still doing here. I've got 5 weeks to go until my c-section but no one in my building believes that I'll make it.

I actually broke down and went a bought a cheap foot stool at Target a couple of months ago to keep under my desk. it's been fantastic!

Haha in that case, definitely as low
as it will go! And lock it in upright position. Also, with your feet flat on the ground, your knees should be slightly higher than your hips and you should have about 4!fingers of space between the back of your knee and the chair. Also, arm rests down. I can't do that because I twirl my hair. Haha but if uou
    can, arm rests down.
  • I just did some cat-cow stretches on the floor of my office. Didn't bother to close the door. No one saw but meh if they had. This is the first day that I'm feeling super uncomfortable at my desk. Hoping it's just a bad day and not going to continue for the next ten weeks.

  • Back at work after a much-needed 4 day weekend. Though we have Fridays off the work week seems long. I am managing 2 interns which is more work than I expected and my pregnancy brain isn't helping. Not sure if I want to work past September (DD Sep 19th), but need all my sick time. I'm planning to see if I can work from home the beginning of September.
  • @MrsVoorhees is that how chairs are supposed to go!?! I am 4'11 and chairs are not made for me, in most chairs even in the lowest position I can't even put my feet flat against the floor! I end up sitting indian style a lot and have to use step stools!

I'm exhausted and have a cold on top of it. Was falling asleep at my desk today.
  • Why is it that short work weeks always feel longer than regular 5 day weeks? Ugh! Today I was just not interested. I had a ton to do, but was so slow at getting anything accomplished. Had a pointless 45 minute conference call and my phone wouldn't work so I had to call in using my cellphone. Frustrating. Just one of those days. Only plus is I got to get a haircut and dye tonight after work so that was a reward after a long day!

I took a week of leave to clean up for the baby shower and then just prep the nursery. It's been great and I don't go back to shifts until next week. Then it's back to work every scheduled day until this baby comes or the doctor puts me on modified hours. My boss started scheduling me 40h per week so that is a relief. It's not like 48h is that much more but looking at my calendar right now, it seems like sweet relief!
  • I just can't function today and I feel like crap!  I have really started to dive into to this new job and I'm so overwhelmed with all that I will be doing. It doesn't help that my actual computer is down and won't be fixed until tomorrow but such is life. I'm so ready to make myself at home and get started. I just want to lay down right now though, I told DH he is making dinner this evening so I can lay down. I think I'm getting dehydrated and that isn't good. I hate coming back after long weekends

The HVAC at my work is either overworked to the point of not working at all, or just straight up broken, and the people who have been trying to fix it for the past month or two (since summer started, really) have given up on us and asked that we not call them about issues with it anymore.

It was nearly 85 degrees inside yesterday. Outside temp was about 90 degrees. It was miserable and I wish I could afford to miss work until they fix it.

Haha yes!! If you can't reach the floor, you'll need a foot rest. I've learned more than I care to know about ergonomics. Our ergonomist is the wholistic guy that always judges me for eating Taco Bueno. I hate that I know things because I leaned them from him haha
  • today was a struggle... first day of training my replacement for my 3 month leave... we were already behind since monday was the holiday. i did so much talking, i like to be thorough, i felt like i had cotton mouth. i couldnt drink enough water lol. the day went by SO fast. the training continues tomorrow and the rest of the week and next. it will be a long couple weeks. :open_mouth:
  • I have the week off thankfully.  I teach at a non-public school for students with special needs.  I am increasingly becoming concerned about my being able to handle working directly with the students as opposed to floating (which is ideally what the teachers are supposed to do).  It's looking like I will technically be short staffed until within a few weeks of when I will probably take my maternity leave.  I'm just not sure I will have the energy.  I barely have it now.  Today was the first day in like three that I did not take a nap.  It's also been really hard getting  out of bed in the morning for work.  I always wake up sore.  No matter what position I try, pillow positioning (eg. between my legs,), etc.  The sinus issues are not helping matters either.
  • On further reflection, I am not sure how people avoid rage quitting their jobs during pregnancy. I am about ready to walk out the door if I get one more crazy email. This amount of stress cannot be healthy for me or the baby. Too bad we need my salary, makes me wonder WTF I got myself into?
  • I'm using a tipped over trash can on its side ha-ha

I am so with you today. I'm about to lose it on anyone. I don't remember being this cranky last time and I seriously feel on edge. :(

  • I'm not sure what the deal is but both yesterday and today I've been very motivated to get things done and start working on tying up loose ends.
Its probably a good thing since there is still a lot to be done before I go out on leave at the end of next month.
  • Having one of those days myself. Was presented with a huge mistake that was made by another division in my company. Over $30k mistake...Can't seem to get my work done because I've been pulled in so many directions trying to assist in coming up with a solution to this error. Not good.
  • @rock1cherry my sympathies. Fixing other people's messes before 8 AM was the root of my sneaky rage spiral today. I'm a ftm so I know I will be surprised at the level of sleeplessness etc brought on by having an infant in the house, but right now I am so. ready. to only have my own problems to worry about.

I was using my trash can upside down and am now using a cardboard box I grabbed out of the mail room, it's much taller which is nice.  I'm thinking of bringing in a pillow to cushion it.
  • I can't stand sitting anymore. But I also can't pull myself out of this chair to go walk around. It's a viscous cycle.
  • @jas1982 I love my job for the most part, but it's frustrating to constantly have to fix other people's problems and errors. For the first time I am actually looking forward to taking a break from this place. I think some days I care too much. Definitely more than everyone else. there have been a lot of changes recently too so it's making the job less fun in general. But it's a job and I do like the actual work I do.
  • @MrsVoorhees - that is exactly how I feel all the time. My chair sucks, it's so uncomfortable. But standing sucks, too. Where is the reclining office chair option? Why isn't that a thing. Someone go make that a thing.
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo we have laptops that we can undock and I have seriously considered unhooking mine and making a bed chair on the floor of my office. Of course, the bed chair in my mind is way better than the reality would be. There are snacks in that version.
