Re: Moms of Multiples 7/5

  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?
    27 weeks, di-di boys

    2. Upcoming appointments or milestones?
Ultrasound next Monday, and I think this week or next week is officially third trimester!

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives
Feeling good this week, and really thankful for my awesome prenatal chiropractor. She showed my H a few massage and stretch things he can help me with at home, and he is so sweet to offer to help me a couple times a day.

    4. Question of the week: Are you planning to have help come stay for a while after babies arrive?
My mom and my mil are each actually coming to give me a hand with my toddler for a little bit in the next couple of months, so I'm able to take it easy before babies come. We live so far from all family (we are in TX, my family in CA, my in-laws in MD/PA) so not quite sure yet who will be able to come and when. DH has a 2-week international work trip in early November, so my mil is planning to come then.

  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?
    24w3d - di/di girls

    2. Upcoming appointments or milestones?
regular OB appointment tomorrow and then cervix scan on Thursday to see if there are any differences. Hopefully at our OB appointment we will hear about when the glucose test is and when we will start monitoring more.

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives
I am so exhausted and the BH contractions have been extra, lately. Life just seems to be getting harder, but we bought our baby monitor yesterday and set it up in the nursery... So exciting to know we have the essentials.

    4. Question of the week: Are you planning to have help come stay for a while after babies arrive?
we are probably going to take the first week home as a family to get sort of in the swing of things and decompress/learn what it's like to go from a family of two to family of four, and then my mom will come stay for a little bit to help out the next week. Possibly MIL too.
  • @sjo_thetwins I like your first week alone idea. I am so torn between wanting that "just us" family time and wondering how much help I'm really going to need, especially since we will also have an 18-month-old needing our attention. I don't want to have so much help that we don't find our own routine, though!
  • @kmvisioli these girls are our first pregnancy/children, so that's how I feel too. I want to know that we can function as just a family before accepting the help so that we don't get used to there being extra hands/extra sleep, etc. I will gladly take extra help, but I don't want it to be a dependency. With baby B being breech, we will probably end up with a c-section, so I know my amount of lifting and movement will be limited for a bit, but I want time with my babies before having other people stay in at the house too.

  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?
    27/3 - boy/girl twins
    2. Upcoming appointments or milestones?
@kmvisioli  Yes- third tri starts at 28 weeks! So that will be Saturday for me-crazy.  We also have our growth us/ob visit next Tuesday & Wednesday.  I wil do my 2nd glucose (which hopefully goes well like the first one) and I'll get my tdap.
    3. Rants/Raves/Positives
Nursery is almost all set!  I can't believe they will be here so soon -
    4. Question of the week: Are you planning to have help come stay for a while after babies arrive?  We are doing a mix of what @kmvisioli        & @sjo_thetwins Are doing.... I think it will be just the 4 of us for the first week (they will be our first) & then my mom is driving out to stay for a while and my In laws are coming in Oct for a few days.  We are in CO and our family is out if state so it will be nice to see them and luckily we have some amazing friends out here who have offered help as well.  But after the first couple months I want to focus on it just being us so we can figure out our groove before I'm back to work.
  • @girvin21 can't believe we're already almost at that 3rd tri mark! Where in CO do you live? My H grew up in Parker, and we both went to CU Boulder. I am seriously missing Colorado lately, especially dealing with this Houston heat and humidity!
  • Hey guys, I just jumped over from the Nov board. My official due date is Nov 9th. But my mfm says he will not let me go past 38 weeks.

    1. I am 22 weeks with fraternal twins. Both are girls.

    2. My next appointment and ultrasound with mfm is tomorrow. Yay I get to see my babies.

    3. My only rant I suppose is I am just so dang tired all of the time. I'm still working full time even though I am on light duty and it is kicking my butt. I'm cutting my hours back next month but it can't seem to get here quick enough.

    4. Yes, yes and yes! With ds we made it very known that we wanted time to ourselves and it worked out wonderful...but this time I am taking all help that is being offered.  DS will turn 2 in Nov and I already know I am having c-section. I'm hoping for a pretty easy recovery like my last one, but preparing for worse.

@kmvisioli I am in the Houston area too...the heat is killing me.
  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?

    26w,2d; boy/girl twins

    2. Upcoming appointments or milestones?

Looking forward to 28 weeks, 3rd trimester!!!

We have our monthly OB appointment this Thursday and a second growth scan/cervix measurement/fluid check next Thursday.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention last week that our Baby A (the boy) has slight increased amniotic fluid.  They were not concerned enough to mention it to me, I just happened to see it on our ultrasound notes and called to inquire.  It's very common in gestational diabetes, but they'll keep it watched.

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives

Are we there yet????  Seriously.  I don't know how I'm going to keep working full time for a few more weeks, much less until delivery as I had originally planned.  What are your plans for stopping work?

How are all of you coping physically?  I'm out of breath ALL of the time.  I'm not comfortable driving or sitting in the recliner, or sitting at my desk at work.  STM's do you notice a difference between your singleton & twin pregnancies?  My first was a breeze compared to this one.

So much for me trying to be positive last week!  :)  Maybe I should start a countdown for myself to keep my positivity up.  Only 11+ weeks to go!  My OB said he wouldn't let me go past 38 weeks if we make it that far.

    4. Question of the week: Are you planning to have help come stay for a while after babies arrive?

We were on our own with our son, but this time I've asked my mom & MIL to both help us out when my leave runs out.  I think I'll want them at home to help out some before leave runs out too.  My mom has also taken the liberty of requesting my retired aunt to come help with the babies.  Not sure how I feel about that, but we'll see.  I want to keep them out of daycare until after the new year.  I might just have to take some unpaid leave around the holidays if my employer will let me.

  • Welcome over @Acoleman82!

@JessK1014 The out of breath thing is rough! My guys moved down for a couple weeks, but one is back up crowding my lungs again. My singleton pregnancy was a total breeze, so I really underestimated how tough this would be.

When DS was born my parents came to "help" but were super unhelpful, and we didn't have a day alone until he was 2wks. I really don't want that again! It was really hard to deal with all the recovery, emotional swings, and learning to BF without any privacy.

    1. How far along and what are you carrying?

    25w1d MoDi Girls

    2. Upcoming appointments or milestones?

weekly US tomorrow, belly is feeling a little lopsided so hoping their isn't a huge fluid discrepancy again.

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives

Is it September yet!? This heat is terrible and getting so anxious to meet our little girls.

    4. Question of the week: Are you planning to have help come stay for a while after babies arrive?

My mom and MIL both live within 20 minutes of us so they will be coming and going constantly. I am not complaining one bit though will take all the help we can get but hoping they will still want to help when the hubby goes back to work. We didn't really take advantage of the help with our first child.

  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?

25 + 6 di di boy girl twins

    2. Upcoming appointments or milestones?

Just had another US today and everything looks great and right on track!

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives

I am feeling sharp pains in my nether regions when I move my legs. For instance, laying in bed and use my legs to try to turn over, I get a sharp pain very low around my cervix area. Also feel it when I walk or really any time I lift my legs. If I am sitting still I am fine. Very odd. Mentioned it to the doc today and they are not concerned and just write it off as pregnancy pain, I am assuming its just part of growing & stretching. Yesterday was the first time it was so bad I couldnt really walk around and had to postpone my trip to the grocery. Darn. :)

    4. Question of the week: Are you planning to have help come stay for a while after babies arrive?

My MIL will most likely come a day or two through the week, but as far as having someone come and stay for a week or two, nope.

    4. Question of the week: Are you planning to have help come stay for a while after babies arrive?
My mom will be here for a couple months because my husband started a new job shortly after I got KU and doesn't get much time off.

  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?
    24w5d with b/g twins

    2. Upcoming appointments or milestones?
I finally hit 24 weeks, so woth that behind us I feel slightly better about Miss Daisy making it. I got bumped up to every two weeks with MFM and the OB, so I have an appointment every week to check on them. Makes me feel so much better, not having to wait almost a month to know she's doing okay.

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives
They are moving SO MUCH in there. I can't possibly be annoyed by it, but my boy is kicking very tender parts of me. He's riding very low and I swear he's kicking my cervix because I can feel it in my crotch every time. Luckily (and not so lucky) Daisy's still small so her movement up high isn't as noticable, but when it is, OH BOY, you can feel her slide from one side to the other!

    4. Question of the week: Are you planning to have help come stay for a while after babies arrive?
I live with my inlaws for the time being and my MIL is queen of hovering. I think I'll have help whether or not I want it. Her 17y.o. daughter just had her baby last week and she's literally holding her boob for her to get the baby to latch. I think if anyone touches me while I'm nursing, I'm going to be removing heads! My mom wants to take off like 3 weeks to help us out, but the inlaws is crowded enough! We're looking into home loans and stuff around us, but its looking less and less likely we'll have our own place by the time they get here.
  • @lmno304 Glad you are getting more appointments and feeling plenty of movement- both reassuring! My mom was a total hoverer when she came to "help" last time; I hope your mil stays busy enough with the other baby. Good luck with your housing search!
  • @lmno304 My boy is low too, and we saw him on the screen last time during a vaginal ultrasound pressed right up against my cervix.  His hand was literally trying to go right down my cervix, and I could feel every bit of it.  The nurse and radiologist were laughing because it looked like he was trying to crawl out.  Talk about awkward!

I'm glad to hear about your increased appointments.  Keep us updated!

  • Anyone else feel like crap when your twins are flipping?? My boys have been in different positions at every appointment the past couple months, and at this point it seriously hurts and makes me feel sick, like I have the flu. Two weeks ago they were both head-down, now A is sideways on the bottom and B is breech on my right.
  • Yes! @kmvisioli. Baby A is always head down, but B is a flipper. I'm hoping it stops soon now that he's getting bigger. Two weeks ago he was breech.

    Me: 28  DH: 27
    TTC since 2011
    IVF #1 June 2013 DD born: 2/25/14
    IVF #2 January 2016 Double Transfer: 1/28/2016
First Beta: 108 Second Beta: 360.3
    Twins EDD: 10/13/2016
  • @kmvisioli  Yes- baby B flips all the time and he stops in very strange positions.. It's uncomfortable but also relieving when they're moving.  Catch 22!

Also- small world- I'm just a town over from  Parker
  • @girvin21 I know what you mean- I love feeling them move, but I have had enough of the painful flipping around.

How funny! So you might actually recognize Elizabeth, CO, which is where my H lived. His parents moved to Parker after he started college.
  • The flipping doesn't bother me so much until they set each other off... he flips so she flips so he flips again, etc.

In other news, I had my mfm appt today and got a lot of the same news... but we're bumping yp to once a week to monitor both of them better because the u/s tech I don't like told the dr peter wasn't moving enough (trust me, he moves plenty). But it makes me feel better to know we'll be able to keep a close eye on both of them. Daisy is growing still, with normal heart rate and development, just still struggling to get good circulation from the placenta. She went from gaining 50g in 3 weeks to 30g in 2, so hopefully its a sign that she's improving. We talked about delivering early, once she hits 400g and is big enough for nicu tools to resucitate her if necessary. Scared but hopeful...
  • @lmno304 oh that is good to hear about Daisy. It makes me so happy that she is growing still, albeit a little slower than Peter. Growth is good in my book!! :)
  • @lmno304 Glad she is gaining!  I'll keep you in my thoughts.
  • Mini rant.. Today my body said "welcome to your 3rd tri.. Here's some morning sickness."  Thank goodness it's Saturday :wink:
  • Ooh, yeah. I'm a couple weeks out from 3rd tri, but have been getting really overheated and dehydrated causing some serious nausea and vomiting at work. (Gotta love that 114 heat index texas has going on right now)
  • Boo. I actually went in to my OB yesterday because I was feeling so crummy. Looks like I also have a little case of mastitis going since I stopped bfing cold turkey in March (so, never really dried up) and now my body is prepping for the new babies.
  • @lmno304  & I thought in the 90s was bad!  Hope you get a heat break soon.  & also so happy to hear Daisy is growing.  Sending happy growth thoughts your way.

@kmvisioli   :( I hope it clears up for you soon!! I've heard that is so awful.
  • We have our hospital tour Monday! Im
so excited. I realized today I need to finalize names so I can turn in all the pre-registration papers. I start seeing my normal OB every two weeks starting at my next
appointment in 2 weeks and I'm already seeing the high risk doc every two weeks, so looks like I'll be going every week now.

It's so nice being able to connect with others who are experiencing the same things/ understand what it's like. I'm the first person in our group to be pregnant with twins/ or be high risk so I'm getting all kinds of comparisons. Don't get me wrong, I love getting advice from other
moms/ moms to be, it's just starting to irritate me how dismissive others can be.

  • @KenderTas06 The second we found out we were having twins, my doctor was like "Okay look... everyone who has ever been pregnant will want to give you advice about being pregnant. Its just part of the collective womanhood. Don't listen to anything they tell you, your pregnancy with twins is going to be completely different from theirs and they can get kind of nasty. Saying it's too early for certain symptoms or that it will only get worse and you have no idea how bad heartburn/backache/whatever can get. But just remember they have no idea what you're going through." So I was pretty well prepared for the crap people have been telling me. I <3 my OB
  • @lmno304 I also love your OB. Having others understand how different we are helps.
