Re: Weekend Randoms

  • Well lets do it! I have absolutely positively no plans whatsoever this long amazing weekend!! For the first time in 3 years I am not hosting a Fourth of July cookout. Me and DH had a short talk about it and we decided we where sooooo tired of cleaning up after everybody, cooking for everybody, and not getting to enjoy ourselves! So we plan on sitting in the house enjoying each other this whole weekend!

On a NBR side note I walked in my house this evening and it was HOT I mean like devil's butt hot!! I had no clue why and I sat on the couch for about an hour....then I realized the heat was on in the house...I finally walk in the basement and see the furnace on full blast...so i politely turn it off and call DH and ask WTH happened...of course he blamed it on the technician that came to fix the washer and dryer...Im just like whatever I'm hot and you owe me lol....just needed to let that out ladies!

I'm chilling in the Hong Kong airport, walking in loops to get my steps in for the day (got to 8048 before saying enough). Tomorrow when I get home, I have to go straight to the grocery store to get party supplies. Then I'm grabbing a shower, and attacking my husband because I'm feeling like some crazed teenager and I need to try to get whatever I can in while it might still count. Sunday is a party at our house. Monday I hope to just relax and do nothing. Actually not nothing. I need to get our game room set up with all the crap for my inventory that's coming in. All the racks and hangers should be in, so I need to unpack that. The light kit and backdrops should be in, so I need to get that set up. If I'm feeling really ambitious, I'll hit IKEA to get the last few little things I need for that and I'll be good to go.

  • DH stole the M&Ms we got at the movies last night. I was looking forward to a chocolate treat tonight
  • This 4th of July is going to be no bueno.  We have rain in the forecast until Tuesday, so that sucks.

@krys Girl you have a busy weekend!! Hope your party goes well! Have fun ☺️
  • @clover28  Oh no!  That stinks!  Hope you find a way to work around the weather...

My random is this gopher that keeps showing up in our backyard, basically living under our deck!  This morning we had to drop everything and rush outside to see what was the matter because the puppy was crying!  And then he came around the house limping. :(  I think he maybe was a little too curious about what the gopher was up to and may have gotten his paw slightly caught under the deck.  But sure enough, he's back to his old silly self again.  I think he was just being dramatic at the time. lol  I'm glad he's okay, but I sure wish that pesky gopher would just scram!

@BusinessWife Your poor puppy!! When I read your post, I thought you were going to say he fought the gopher and the gopher hurt him.  That would be a fight to see.  Hope the pesky gopher GTFO soon!

Eta: Gopher GIF because it makes me happy
  • edited July 2016
@clover28 That's exactly what I was afraid of!!!  So you know how relieved I was when I was like, wth dog, you're fine, quit being so DRAMATIC!  lol  And thanks for the gopher gif.  I was feeling lazy, but seriously, I wish we had a better picture of him cos we usually see him looking through the screen window... but I was having trouble finding gopher pics FAT ENOUGH to be our gopher!
    <img src="https://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140215162142/spongefan/images/3/37/Gopher_laying_in_grass.jpg" alt="" height="340" width="467">
He kinda looks like this tho, I mean it's tough cos he really is a cute guy but I'm afraid one of these days there COULD be an altercation... :/

eta Oh, and now I'm reading that breastpump article, bc you know, planning.

I have a feeling that the gopher was feeling like this as your puppy limped away. @BusinessWife
  • @clover28 Ugh I know, the little bastard!  And poor puppy's too sweet to even have his ego bruised.  He just doesn't get that a 70+ lb GSD is supposed to be kind of a badass.  He'll get there... he'll be 6 months on Thursday:)
  • @BusinessWife Awwwww! He really is still a baby!
  • This potato salad is going to be more like exra-creamy mashed potatoes, served cold.  That's what I get for not even TRYING to look at a recipe! lol

  • Happy Independence Day for all you American bumpers!
  • @BusinessWife Noooo! That's happened to me a couple times too. I am the one in my family charged with making my great grandmothers potato and egg salad every year at all of our summer picnics. There's no written recipe it's just done by taste with the ingredients I know she used. Sometimes those potatoes just get boiled a bit too long. Or I don't wait until they've really cooled enough to chop them up. If it's any consolation it still tastes pretty good that way  ;)

  • @AliciaGoose  Yea, I don't cook a lot of potatoes, generally speaking, and I was just chilling on the computer bumping while they boiled away over there.  Plus I had already cut them up, bc I know potatoes can take a long time to cook all the way through.  You're saying next time, just boil them whole, drain, cool and then cut up?  Argh.

@BusinessWife I halve them (or even quarter if they're really big and I want them to cook quicker - but then you have to keep a closer eye on them). And then check them frequently. As soon as you can stick a fork in one without too much give they're done. Take them off, drain the water, and then put them in the fridge and let them cool all the way before you cut them up. That last part is especially important if they're already a little too over cooked.

  • @AliciaGoose you should see my stash already!

I literally talked myself down from buying EVERYTHING yesterday, (i.e. charging everything), by talking myself INTO purchasing what I decided would get me to a good pausing point: 20/20 newborn AIOs, 24/36 xtra small prefolds, 12/24 small prefolds, 8/12 printed PUL covers in each of size 1 and 2, plus snappis and 4/24 flips (which may be overkill, so we'll see what happens).  Thats not saying anything about the wool!

I also plan to get medium and large flats, overnight fitteds and some less expensive classic covers to round it all out.  I am trying to do it strategically in stages, but so I wanted to have it at a good pausing point so maybe I can leave it alone for another cycle or two.  Or sort of limit each cycle what I will drop.

    What did you get her?
  • @BusinessWife That is an intense amount of things! And also a foreign language to me because I don't know anything about cloth diapers. I might need your expertise one day  ;)

I got her bibs, mittens, burp cloths, two superhero onesies, and some swaddlers! So not a lot but also mostly useful items that can be easily stored. I already have a bag of some things so it's just going in with those.

  • @AliciaGoose  Oh that's so great!  Yes, all of that stuff will come in handy!  I also picked out my mini-crib sheets, and a couple mini-crib mattress pads, crib skirt, muslin blankies, teethers and a pregnancy journal.  I remember the journal was on back-order and I was so worried I would get my BFP before it came it.  lol  I guess I needn't have been. :P
  • @BusinessWife Now I have to admit that I didn't even know mini cribs were a thing until your post and the googling that came after it. I'm impressed with the list of things you have accomplished. I feel like I haven't done nearly enough research about things yet to start compiling my own lists. That's all definitely on my to do list though.

@BusinessWife By baby, you mean tantrum throwing, sippy cup chucking, yelling monster.  BUT, his tush looks real cute in his cloth diapers!

Eta: That sounded harsh.  He's a good kid but he is super pissed at the fireworks outside and is currently stomping around my house screaming.

  • @clover28 Oh, Joy!  Lol. Yes, that's precisely what I meant ;)
