Baby hates purees

I've been trying since 6 months to get her to eat purees and cereal more than once a day but she refuses. She also only wants to eat the foods pretty thick. Some baby purees I have to thicken up with rice cereal just to get her to eat that 1 meal.

She always wants what I'm eating and I give her a little of what I think she may be able to gum lately. I've tried giving simple spice free versions of what I'm eating, she doesn't want it. I tried giving her food half hour before she usually wants a bottle, doesnt work. Ive tried waiting until shes hungry for a bottle but give her food, nope shes not having it. She's a healthy weight. She drinks 6 6-7oz  in 24 hours. She has no teeth yet. Is she just picky? Maybe she just wants to skip ahead bite size?(but she has no teeth) Any suggestions how to get my girl to eat?!

Re: Baby hates purees

  • My dude just got his teeth 2 weeks ago and eats what we are eating . Spice and all. He never liked puréed foods at all, except avocado. My first baby hated them too

  • Our little girl didn't like rice cereal at first so we stopped for a while and then tried oatmeal and she loved it. We are in the same boat with trying to give her some of our food. She just picks it up and plays with it. She won't eat it.
  • My LO was eating purées just fine for 3 months. Not a lot but not too bad. Now he just seems to want our food. So idk.

We gave him things like cucumber slices and strawberries before he had teeth. He liked to gnaw on them and would actually ingest a bit. So maybe start with that?
  • Maybe thicken the purees more? Mine likes it very thick. What purée are you giving? I also find if there is a lot going on he won't eat with the same passion he does if it's quiet. He always wants to see what's going on.

  • I would feed her what you eat and let her have the spices. They can mash a lot of stuff with those tough little gums. Look into baby led weaning. We are doing a mix of that and purées because we're in the same boat as you guys. My lo loves stronger flavors. I've done different types of soups with her because the veggies are super soft; I give any beans or peas a smash and if they are large beans, I split them in half. Also she loves scrambled eggs and hard boiled egg whites, pasta rings, pieces of shredded cheese and chicken, or turkey ( I got a turkey leg at a local street fair last week and gave her tender shreds from that) if you butter toast and then microwave it for a few seconds, it makes the bread soft and a little gooey. The only thing she's had trouble with is sweet potato pieces because they stick to her tongue. For purées, we keep a special box of toys to distract her, my DH uses a regular spoon to feed her and we also put her food on a regular plate and then put finger foods on her tray or spoon feed her from the plate because she wants the grown up stuff.
