TTC After a Loss

Return of the Jedi *TW losses*

Sorry everyone... I am not the success story you were looking for...

I'm back.  I had a little bit of spotting on Tuesday and got a beta draw, with a low 37 hcg.  My second one was last night and came back as an even lower 13 hcg, but I kinda figured that was going to be the case as the spotting and cramping were worse yesterday.  I had a d&c last time because of a suspected molar pregnancy, and so going 'eu natural' this time and am sorta scared out of my mind as I do not do well with pain.

Game plan is to try and see if insurance will authorize testing to see if we can figure out if/what problem(s) there are so I can try to avoid this situation in the future.

On the bright side, it's 4th of July weekend in the states, and I'm supposed to go visit my parents and sister and we are going to play in a theme park with the community band... so... assuming I'm not bleeding to death I can ride as many roller coasters as many times as I want?  Shittiest bright side ever I think, but I'm grasping at what straws I have right now.  Hopefully this message isn't too offensive/crass... I woke up with an awful headache and am in a sorta zombie depressed state so... I'm definitely off right now.  But I love you guys!  :)

  • @dpjennifer I'm so so sorry. I hate that you're back here now. I've not had any natural MC's so I can't offer experiences but I hope the process is not too painful for you and I hope you are able to somewhat enjoy time with your family.
  • I am so sorry you are back here. I know the frustrations you are coming from. With both of my CPs (sorry, don't remember how far along you were) I had super heavy mostly clotty thick for the first day, normal moderate bleeding the second and then a day or two of super light spotting. I know every MC is different but mine weren't as painful physicially as expected since they were so early.

@dpjennifer I also just want to add that while mine wasn't a natural MC, I didn't have a D&C. My doctor suggested to go with the Cytotec to induce the MC since it had been about 4 weeks since the baby had passed. It was painful at first during the actual MC part and scary but after those few hours it was like a heavy period. I am not sure if that helps but I just wanted to share a non D&C experience with you.

Edit: My mind is already on vacation and can't make words!
Edit again to also add I was 8 weeks when I had my MC so I am not sure how different it would be since you are 5w3d. Regardless this all is horrible I am so sorry.

  • @SnobunnieMel Thanks for the info!  I'm at 5 weeks and like 3 days right now.  I actually don't know what the timeframe cut off for a 'miscarriage' versus a 'chemical pregnancy' is?!?  Anyone?  I'm hoping mine won't be as painful since it's still pretty early on.  Guess we'll see?

@dpjennifer I am so very, very sorry. I hope you're able to get the testing authorized by your insurance.

I had a natural MC, and my experience wasn't too bad. I hope you have minimal pain and discomfort, and that this passes quickly.

  • @dpjennifer - Im so sorry to see you back here and that you have to go through this again. I had a natural mc and it was manageable,  I was 11 weeks and it just felt like a really heavy period with a lot of bleeding. I hope you have minimal pain and discomfort!

  • @dpjennifer I am so so sorry for your loss. My natural m/c started a little after 6 weeks (with an u/s that showed about a 5.5 week pregnancy). MC details to follow: In total I bled for about two weeks, with less than one week being bad. I had cramps on and off after I started bleeding. Whenever the cramps would come I would pass clots afterward. I took Advil whenever I felt a cramp that made me do more than cringe and that took the edge off. For the most part I was able to be out and about. The worst of it for me actually happened Memorial Day weekend. I passed the sac after about 2-3 hours of bad cramps and lower back pain (that told me something bigger was happening as none of the other cramps felt anything like that level). I took a hot shower and let it just kind of beat on my lower stomach and lower back and that helped dramatically. Once that happened I only experienced minimal cramping, and the clotting lessened and within 5 days it was done all together. I know the experience is different for everyone and this is anecdotal, but if you have any other questions about natural mc I would be happy to answer them. I hope your physical pain in the coming weeks is minimal.

Fuck. I'm so so sorry to see you back here lady. Hugs. As far as the MC goes, I think, given your low betas, that this will be more like a heavy period. With a beta In the 30s, I doubt there'd really be much of a gestational sac, so fingers crossed this isn't physically painful for you. And @SnobunnieMel is right - a clinical MC means your are far enough along to see something on ultrasound. A chemical pregnancy means you have a positive test, but nothing would show on an ultrasound. Given your low betas, I suspect this would be in the latter category, but your doc would know more. I hope you go and enjoy the crap out of those roller coasters!!
  • I am so sorry @dpjennifer
i also had a very early MC recently and happened natural at home.

it was painful but not more than the week after D&c when I had my first loss.

roller coaster stress release sounds great!

  • I am so sorry @dpjennifer. I had 2 natural mcs around the 5-6wk mark, and for what it's worth, they were the least painful. More like a heavy period. Sending creepy internet hugs and good juju for a short stay.

  • I am so very sorry that you are back, trust me, I know and understand losses more than most, something I wish I didn't, but I feel like when this happens, I do have a sincere and deep level of sympathy. Just try to take care of yourself, only do what you can handle each day, take it slowly as you dip your feet back in here, and if you can't handle it for a while, know that everyone will understand. And most of all, know that many, many women on here are thinking of you and sending lots and lots of positive thoughts and love your way.
