Labor inducing foods/receipes

I know it's a little soon for me but I'm getting eager to meet little one and want to know if you have favorite receipes or food that you have heard can work to get things moving. We can all stock up our cabinets with things we will need now. With #2 I went into labor after eating at Chipolte. I have heard of labor salads and cookies... What will you try?

Re: Labor inducing foods/receipes

  • Idk about recipes but I'm about to start my daily dates soon. They taste disgusting but I've read so many good things about them and I got my big bag from Costco so I guess I'm going for it.

  • I ordered the third trimester tea from earth mama. I don't think it is supposed to induce labor, but more or less prepare your body more for it. I figured it's worth a try.

  • I'm going to do dates and am thinking about red raspberry leaf tea.. I haven't decided if I want pure red raspberry tea or the earth mama blend. @midwestbaby did you ask your doc if it was safe? I plan to at my next appt just because of the other ingredients but from what I've read it seems safe.
  • I'm doing RR tea but just the bags right now because that's what I grabbed at target. I like to brew a full glass and let it come to room temp. I'm not sure how easy it would be to do that with loose.

What at are dates supposed to do?

I haven't asked yet (next appointment isn't until the 13th) but I also wasn't planning on drinking it until I am considered term either.

  • @ThisisNumber3 eating 6 dates a day for the last month of pregnancy is supposed to help with a shorter/easier labor. Most of it is anecdotal, but there are a few small studies I believe.
  • I did nettle tea infusions when I was trying and after being off the pill for at least a year, after drinking the nettle infusions everyday for awhile my cycle started to really regulate more towards a more typically 28-30 day cycle. The nettles are full of nutrients.

I've started doing nettle and RR leaf mixed infusions every few days and mean to do it every day. From what friends have said and online it's supposed to just tone up your uterus and be healthy to support a effective labor and pregnancy. I do roughly a hand full of nettles and 1/4 cup raspberry leaf in a quart mason jar, filling with just boiled water, putting the lid on and leaving for 4-6 hours to infuse.

I get my herbs from mountain rose herbs, a very high quality brand and you can get a fair amount instead of small tea bags.

  • I asked my midwife about RR leaf tea and they said they will have me start drinking it at 36 weeks. It's not supposed to induce you, but it's supposed to help tone your uterus for labor.

  • I will drink raspberry leaf tea more consistently in a few weeks. I've never heard of eating dates, but sounds like that might be a good plan too. I'm all about trying anything that will make this labor faster and easier! This is TMI, but I'm also making DH wear a condom until we are absolutely ready for him to arrive. That put me into labor last time (could have just been a coincidence, but I'm not risking it!).
