For those of you who have already had your period return, was the first period after baby much different from your norm? I'm not sure if I should expect anything different in terms of pain, flow, etc...
6 weeks 5 days I started what I thought was my period but it barely lasted 2 days. So maybe I didn't. I'm not sure. My normal periods lasted 4 days. Whatever I had wasn't painful and was just a little lighter than I'm used to having.
I didn't get my period back after my first baby until he was 18 months old, but the first two were horrid- like elevator doors opening in the shining situation. Had to change my diva cup like 4x/ day and wear period panties as back up. And the cramps seemed a little worse than normal too, although it may just have been my perception after not having them for a few solid years.
Mine were pretty normal after my first two babies. I didn't get a period until I was 100% done with breastfeeding.
Ever since having kids my periods have been lighter overall.

This exactly for me as well. I thought I was getting it around this timeframe but it was only like 2 days. My midwife did say the timing sounded more like a period than postpartum bleeding so I guess we'll see what happens.
Just a follow up question to the ladies who have gotten their periods . . . are you breastfeeding? I know that it isn't a sure thing but I really was looking forward to a decent chance of not getting it back for a while due to Breastfeeding. Not looking forward to it at all!
Formula feeding. Started off trying to bf but it wasn't in the cards. AF showed up at exactly 8weeks pp. First day was very misleading in terms of flow. The next three days I was doubling up on overnight pads bc it was said a faucet was turned on down there. The cramps weren't as bad as before but having 800mg ibeprofren (sp) leftover helped a lot too.
Over 18+ months first time around. Was super light, short, not painful (usually mine are super painful). The same with the next two cycles after that one. Then it became my normal cycle with the intense pain.
I got mine last week at 9 weeks. It was super light and lasted 4 days, similar to last time post-partum. My periods were much better after my first pregnancy, hoping that continues this time.

I'm exclusively pumping so I kind of expected a little break even if not the entire time, but my midwife explained that if you don't really feed on demand and follow more of a rigid schedule that it is more likely to come back. Also, when they start sleeping more in longer stretches as well. These all aren't 100% things though. Some people are just lucky and don't get it the entire time regardless. My step-sister breastfed my youngest niece for 18 months and didn't get hers back the entire time.

I didn't get mine back until 2 months after I fully weaned, but I also only have one ovary and have never had very regular cycles, so that may have played a role as well.
Formula feeding and got mine back at exactly 2 months PP. It was waaaaay lighter than before and no cramping or PMS symptoms which was kinda freaking awesome! Hopefully continues like this. My periods were typically 7 days, this was about 4!

curious if you are on the mini pill? I'm currently bleeding lightly and am on the mini pill and 7 days PP.
I just had mine return a day ago at 9 weeks. I'm still breastfeeding but also supplementing so I wasn't shocked. Seems heavier than my normal cycle so far.
I guess I should really ask to anyone EBFing that is on the mini pill and had a period? I'm thinking I'm just spotting but it is bright red like a period and quite annoying! I stopped bleeding PP at 3 weeks and am currently 7 weeks. Another member said I was just spotting and could for 3 months while my body is regulating on the mini pill, but curious if any of you had a similar situation as well!

I had my PP appointment at 5 weeks. I stopped my PP bleeding a little before 3 weeks but when I went to leave a urine sample there was a good bit of blood in my panties..enough for a pad. My ob said it was my period returning but it only lasted through the next day. I'm BF though! I was so upset. I did cramp some but it wasn't awful and hasn't come back. I started progestin birth control so I'm hoping that'll help keep things at bay. I'm not ready for my period to come back.
I'm on the 3 yr arm implant, which is basically like the mini pill. I was C section and am 7 + 4 pp now. EP and FF supplement (low supply).
Stopped my pp bleeding for good a few weeks ago, but it was never very heavy after leaving the hospital anyway. Just started my period 2-3 days ago and so far, so good. A bit of mild cramping and fairly light bleeding compared to before. Hope it stays like that!
I might have started my period today and I am not happy. I'm EBFing and 7.5 weeks pp but DD started sleeping longer stretches at night about a week ago. My Dr said I could still have some pp bleeding until about 8 weeks and it's not very heavy so I'm crossing my fingers it's that! I didn't get my period after DD1 until 3 or 4 weeks after I had stopped EPing.
Thanks for all of the responses, ladies! It definitely sounds like we are all across the board! I'm seven weeks PP, I BF and also use a supplemental formula. I think I might have ovulated a day or two ago, but I'm not completely sure. We'll see, I guess!
I def started my period 2 days ago and im bleeding the heaviest i ever have in my 27 years of life...like even heavier then right after i had the baby..i dont get it is this normal to bleed this much? Im literally soaking through a super tampon and like the thickest pad i could find...tried calling the ob and of course didnt hear anything back...grr
With my first I BF for a month and my period didn't return until 5 months.
With my second I BF for 2 weeks, my bleeding stopped around 3.5 weeks, but then I got a week of bright red blood from 5-6 weeks. I've heard that can be normal bleeding after having a baby or if can be your period. I had no cramping associated with it so I'm not sure what to think. I guess we'll see in a month if I get my period!
I think mine started and I'm 7 weeks pp tomorrow. I am formula feeding and strangely, on my second active week on the pill. I wonder if I'll have another one during the placebo pills?
Oh my gosh. I got mine right at 6 weeks and it was a complete shark week. I was in target when I knew I had to go home and shower right away. Luckily I was in black yoga pants or I would have been mortified! It lasted about a week.
Yeah. I take back my nice little 2 day period experience. It is now the REAL DEAL. I'm bleeding worse than I did PP as well. The cramping is still no where near as bad it used to be before baby but I am nervous about using tampons again so I'm changing my pad every hour or so because it grosses me out so bad.
I'm at 6 weeks and change and still have pp bleeding. Is that normal? So annoying! My ob appointment isn't until Monday.
Can be. With DS I stopped bleeding at like 5.5 weeks then got my period at 6 weeks and thought i was still having pp bleeding. Wrong! Are you having any period symptoms like sensitivity in nipples or cramps? That's how I figured out I was actually having my period rather than a continuation of pp bleeding.
So as I mentioned I got my period back after 6 weeks with DS. I was EBF on demand but using pacifiers. With this little one same deal minus the pacifiers and I'm hoping that it'll make a difference! It'd be nice to have a bit more time free of all that.
