January 2017 Moms

Moms of Multiples- w/o 6/20

HEY! I expect this group will grow more once the late January ladies have their first ultrasounds but I wanted to get started and say hi :)

How far along are you?

Type and number of multiples?

Any multiples-specific concerns or questions?

Have you recovered from the shock of finding out you're carrying multiples?

I've been (and will continue to be) pretty worried about my chances of a vaginal birth. Most OBs around me automatically risk you out with identical twins. Mine will risk me out if baby A is breech and will try to pressure me into a c-section if A is vertex and B is breech or transverse. Total bummer, it's highly unlikely that they'll both be head down but I reallllllly want to try for a vaginal birth!

Have you recovered from the shock of finding out you're carrying multiples?
Um, no. It's awesome but terrifying and I still can't believe it sometimes...

Any multiples-specific concerns or questions? I have a lot of labor and delivery concerns.  DS's birth in the grand scheme of things was really great.  Water broke, had to be induced, epi was placed with no issues, vaginal birth with a little tearing and recovery really wasn't that bad.  We were able to do immediate skin-to-skin and try nursing.  He was with us all the time and when he did need to leave the room, DH went with him.  I felt so bonded to him immediately.  I'm terrified of pre-term labor, a c-section, the possibility of a NICU stay, not being able to bond right away, being away from my babies.  All the risks associated with multiples makes me feel like a first time mom all over again.

Have you recovered from the shock of finding out you're carrying multiples? LOL, somewhat.  Some days I still can't believe it but I do already love them so much.

  • @TannaBean come check in here!
  • @TinaBelcher - thank you!

How far along are you? 12 weeks today!

Type and number of multiples? 2 (identical) - So far they look mono/mono, will see high-risk doctor tomorrow to check them out and see if we have any division.

Any multiples-specific concerns or questions? Anyone have mono/mono twins? That's really my concern right now, though I've been doing my research and it's helped.  Would love to hear from anyone who has been in the same boat.

Have you recovered from the shock of finding out you're carrying multiples? Yeah, we are good, lol.  We went through IVF and only transferred one embryo.  I was seriously so close to calling and saying we wanted to transfer two. Had an ultrasound at almost 6 weeks and only saw 1.

Type and number of multiples? Di-Di

Any multiples-specific concerns or questions? Yes! The hospital my OB delivers at doesnt have a NICU to support babies born before 31 weeks. I know it's a small chance they will come that early, but there's still a chance. I LOVE my OB and don't want to change doctors on the off chance I will deliver before 31 weeks but it worries me :/

Have you recovered from the shock of finding out you're carrying multiples? Um....no!! We are super excited but still terrified at the same time!!

  • @jlinke926 with di-di your risk of preterm labor and/or complications necessitating taking them super early goes way down. How far away is the nearest micro premie nicu? Depending on that answer if I were in your shoes I'd probably stay with the OB you love with di-di twins
  • @TinaBelcher - Thats what I am thinking. I think the nearest micro-premie nicu is about 45-an hour away. This hospital is 15 minutes. I love my OB and he gives me an ultrasound pretty much whenever I want because I am paranoid :) Plus he isn't putting me in his on call group, so basically unless something crazy happens, he is going to deliver me. My cousin had twins about 16 years ago and just went into labor at 25 weeks (unexplained)  so I always have that in the back of my head.

  • Update: saw our maternal/fetal doctor and we saw a membrane between the twins! So, they are officially mono/di. :) The best part is that we get to continue seeing this doctor throughout the pregnancy (even though he is 2 hours away). It makes me feel so much better to have one doctor to go to.  If I went to the hospital here, there are 5 possible doctors I could have at each appointment. This mama is feeling a little less anxious. :)

My biggest concern is the chance of having a c-section. I had vaginal births with my other two kiddos.

Have you recovered from the shock of finding out you're carrying multiples?
Mostly. We are very excited, but I still feel that it hasn't totally sunk in yet. This was completely unexpected. New car is in the future so we can all fit.
