Lifting while pregnant.

So I work at a grocery store and we have bins we usually put the stuff in and the put up on wheels so they can drive up to the window and pick their order up. IV been doing this since before I got pregnant so I'm very used to it but should I still be doing it? Iv been tacking the bins lighter since I found out and I haven't had any pains or anything.

Re: Lifting while pregnant.

  • I did 150lb deadlifts this morning. They felt freakin awesome.

Honestly, they say that you can continue most of your normal activities well into the second trimester. You may find that you tire more easily (I certainly do), but as long as you stay hydrated and still feel comfortable, you should be fine. Talk to your doc if you're concerned! Your workplace is required to make reasonable accommodations for your pregnancy as things progress.

  • Listen to your body and talk to your doctor about it next time you have a visit. If you're used to it I don't see why you can't continue as long as you feel comfortable, just you know, lift with your legs, not your back.
  • I talked to my doctor about working out and lifting she just said you can keep doing what you normally do but drink lots of water.

  • I agree with everyone else. As long as you're used to doing it and you aren't straining yourself you should be fine. Life must go on.
  • @MonaLisaRalphio I've never tried to deadlift 150 lbs... but I feel pretty certain I couldn't even come close. I do lift 50# sacks of feed though. If that helps me not sound like too much of a weakling haha

  • @kswiger06 sure you could.  You just build up from something smaller. My first deadlift was 60 pounds... like, years ago. I strained a muscle in my back (on a trampoline... Stupid) a while back and had to take a break from heavy lifting, and of course now I can't go up in weights because of the pregnancy. But it doesn't take long to get a lot stronger if you're practicing good form and getting a hearty, healthy diet with a ton of protein. I have a friend who's about the same size as me (read: medium sized) and she just got a 225 deadlift! And this is a girl who, two years ago, was proud to say she never worked out. If you wanted to do it, you totally could. Especially if you're already slinging those big old sacks of feed!

  • @MonaLisaRalphio that is so inspiring! I'm trying to stay as active as I can this pregnancy. So far not too good, I get nauseated easily, but I'm hoping to work hard after the baby is born to keep my body from going downhill. My 2 kiddos were born when I was younger and I'm afraid I'll struggle after this one. I'm only 29 but keep hearing it's more of a struggle than it is in early twenties. Thanks for the encouragement!!! :)
